  1. Steve, I HATE HATE HATE this kind of thing. I am a network/IT guy and I spend tons of time unblocking, chasing down blacklists, messing with reverse DNS, SPF, creating email server work arounds to allow specific domains, administering spam appliances, etc, etc, etc. I would like to take the largest spammer, hog tie them, and throw them in the water. This is not the type of work I enjoy doing, rather it is a pain in the neck (not a worthy challenge, but an annoyance). I feel your pain on having to block something like Gmail. It is ridiculous. I cringe everytime one of my clients tells me, "I can't email anyone at AOL.com" (or anything similar), most of the time due to something totally out of their control. wow, I feel better after venting! thanks Jason
  2. I hooked a 20+ inch rainbow in the lower section below the dams saturday afternoon on a #10 black leach pattern. I lost the fish while netting it and unfortunately it swam away with a huge fly lodged in its mouth. The fly was possibly hook on the side. Hopefully someone will see it, net it, and remove the fly. I looked for it with my net for a few minutes aftewards but there are just to many hiding places in that area. nice fish, hate to see it starve to death....
  3. Seth, I couldn't agree more. Not everyone in this country automatically deserves home ownership. If you don't have the money for ownership, you rent, if you don't have the money for a new car, you get a used or cheaper one. This entitlement things goes way to far. I would like a $100,000 Dodge Viper and the most expensive fly fishing gear money can buy, but does that mean that some organization or the goverment should make sure I can get my hands on it just because someone else who is better off has it? Absolutely not. This is my simple view of the situation. I know the Viper is a ridiculous comparison, but my that is my point. I can afford a vehicle, and I have a home, but I don't feel entitled to what others have (that are better off financially than I am). I see things I would like to have all the time, but I the way I see it, I get out of life exactly what I put into it. Jason
  4. Look up a download called "malwarebytes". I have used this to get rid of many stubborn bugs lately. If you google it, then you should be able to find a free download. It works very well. Download and run ccleaner first. This gets rid of all your temp internet files, history, and cookies, therefore the virus/spyware software doesn't have to take the time to scan those files (they are many times the source of the infection anyway)
  5. does anyone have experience with Albright? Their entire line up is 50% off on their website right now. I have heard good things about the A5 but have never seen or cast one
  6. I have a Dogwood canyon (bass pro) DC2 reel with backing and a Cabelas Prestige Plus WF5F on it. The line has a broken spot in the coating which I have repaired (core is fully intact) on the rear half of the line. The Prestige Plus line has been on the reel a while and has probably been used on less than 20 trips to Taney $15obo + 3.50 shipping if anyone is interested. Decent cheap reel cleaning stuff out, bought some new gear this year
  7. I thought I better pass this along. I found it while shopping around and ordered one. I just purchased a new Cabelas SR for my TFO rod and found it became very rough feeling after stripping line off a few times so I returned it, therefore had to find a different reel. These seem to be pretty decent when I have looked at them in the past (for a higher price).
  8. The tax thing pains me as well. I have worked hard and have done well for myself, without having anything handed to me. Why should I pay more taxes to take care of someone who hasn't (I know there are exceptions to this, but...). I know that isn't the only aspect of paying taxes (we needs roads, military, police, etc), but doesn't the economy prove to do better when the money is in the earner's pocket?
  9. I've only heard good things about them. Just like a higher end Lamson but it is cast instead of machined (who cares). I like the pop off/pop on spool as well.
  10. KC, I'm sure you will have to call the store and have them look for the reel, but I held it in my hand so I know there was one there (at least a week ago), and they were not on display
  11. Has anyone used the Orvis Ultralite wading boots?
  12. I went with a TFO TiCrx 9ft 5wt and a Cabelas SR1 I did some reading about the comparison between the TiCr and TiCrx and the X is supposedly a hair more capable for a delicate presentation (more progressive taper on the X as opposed to tip flex on the TiCr, don't know how true this is) but either way I guess I'll adapt. The price was really good on both. The SR1 reel is awesome, and a great buy for $80. Very smooth and really nice drag. I can't wait to use it.
  13. Has anyone made it to the state fair? They have a really cool display of Lake Sturgeon, Pallid Sturgeon, and Spoonbill, all of which look to be newly hatched or very young (all the fish were 4-6 inches). I have never scene these species this small, it was pretty wild, also interesting watching them feed the spoonbills
  14. The two they had left are 5/6 wt
  15. I was there looking at reels today. I found they have 2 LSR reels, brand new, behind the counter still for sale ($50) in case anyone is interested. I looked at just about everything including the Konic. The reel I was most impressed with is the SR, incredible smooth bearings (spins a dozen times without stopping and a huge carbon fiber/steel drag with a nice range, and somewhat light. The 5/6 is on sale for $80 on their website which I find it pretty hard to beat. I'll probably be picking one up tonight. Still working on the rod...what a decision, I guess I just need to grab something and realize that it is all about getting on the water I asked the guy at the shop about the Scierra sweep and he said the blank is the same as the Scierra IC3 (or maybe the Ferox is the same as the IC3, anyway they are both under $200) They push the LST rod alot to, which I have heard many good things about, and not just on this forum...
  16. I still like the TiCRx but I would definitely stay with the 5 wt. I was comparing the Sage Launch 5wt/6wt and as far as feel, there was some difference but not as drastic. The difference between the 5wt/6wt ticrx is HUGE, the 6wt is a TANK, gigantic stripping guides, feels heavy as an 8 weight I used to have, etc. I still like the Launch as well but I want to be able to throw heavier rigs, since it is moderate fast, a 6wt might be a good all around rod still trying to decide Has anyone cast a Scierra Farrox or Sweep? Another question, are there any other american made reels in the $200 range beside the Ross Cimmaron? Cabelas has them on sale for $120 but I was not impressed as the reels had a bunch of side to side slop, very loud click, the Cabelas SR and SLA reels seem much more refined (they are sale right now also for $80 for the SR, 110 for the SLA)
  17. I like the White River rods to (some of them). I still have an 8'6" 5wt Classic. I used to have a 9' 8wt CV2 however I put an aluminum saltwater reel seat on it as the factory reel seat would not hold a larger reel for some reason, decent rod blank though. Not to mention the Bass Pro fishing dept in Pearland TX was more than willing to help a friend of mine who was there at the MD Anderson Cancer clinic. When I called them, they were more than willing to hook him up with some fishing gear as he was able to go the pier and fish in Galveston a couple of times. Even though we never got this together in time (he passed away soon after I called) it was a great gesture (sorry Bass Pro haters). I will never have a problem having something with the Bass Pro or White River logo on it....
  18. Likely going with a TicRx 9 ft 5wt, the price is good right now and I like the warranty. It gets a lower review when compared to rods in the $600 for obvious reasons but is said to be suitable for a 6wt also. I did like casting the rod. Hopefully the extra backbone will let me throw a little bit heavier flies, but if not I'll have an excuse to buy another rod later
  19. Wipers grow fast and fight to the extreme. I have broken medium action spinning rods on them (with braided line). They are an awesome sport fish.
  20. I put off buying a new rod for a while but I just sold a ton of gear I had laying around that was not being used. Right now I'm looking at a TFO but I am trying to decide on a fast 5 wt or a moderate fast 6 wt. I have always used a 6wt med fast as it seems to make up for some lost back bone but still works for heavier flies. I will use it mainly for trout (Taney, White River, Wipers and whatever else swims in the spillways in Kansas)and would also like to have some wind beating power. The TiCrx was nice when I test drove it, but a 6wt in that rod might be to much of a broomstick. I know I probably just opened a huge can of worms here. I did hang on to one of my White River Classics (the 5 wt) as I still think they are a great rod. Any thoughts on other rods in the $200 range? (Winston Ascent, Sage Launch, St Croix Avid, etc).
  21. Phil, are you still offering a deal on TFO fly rods?
  22. Terrapin, well said
  23. I've been in a recession ever since I left home Seriously though, I have been watching my driving. I still hope to fish Taney in the fall, if it becomes wadable by that time.
  24. Are you talking about service pack 3? I have installed it all over the place and have not had any issues but I will watch out for any PCs with Zone Alarm.
  25. I have been interested in the whole argument of "saturated oil market". This article is sort of interesting. I am not an economic expert so it is hard to know what to believe most of the time. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008..._prices257.html
