  1. Great day!
  2. Can't decide which one tastes better...crappie or walleye. Stopped by Vanzant Fruit Farms on the way home. The overripe peaches looked great.
  3. We got a late start today. On the water 9-1 Water temp 83.5 Launched at Hickory Creek Total fish caught 14 5 keeper crappie 2 small crappie 6 small blacks 1 small walleye Most were caught on #7 Black/Silver Flicker Shads. 3 were caught on a #7 Fire Tiger before I donated it to a tree. It was too hot to sit still and fling minnows so we trolled the whole time. 12 lb test, 110 fol. 20-25 fow. We fished the keeper crappie area 11-1 and they were still biting good when we decided to leave. The wife got too hot. Only saw 3 boats on the water and they were in a big hurry to get to their spot.
  4. I've been buying stuff from Aaron since he bought the place. Stopped by today, bought my minnows for tomorrow and looked for you so I could meet you. Catch you next time.
  5. Nathan, I didn't take the comments negative towards me. I hope he took someone's advice and took it to Hickory Creek Marina and called a game warden. Wish I had more time to be there to get more info but I had to leave them after about 30 seconds...as some of you know, we operate with a skeleton crew everyday and can't be away from our dept for long. The spear guys seemed more interested in filleting them while I was there. I've caught 30 or so 20 lb stripers over the years. My largest is 28 lbs. I fished the NSBA tournaments for 3 years then gave it up because I was tired of giving my money up to the greatest striper fisherman of all time, Don Andreason. The largest I've seen was the 42 that won the tourny at ouchita in 2003ish. I have a mounted 20(only for the memory of catching 2 at the same time)in my garage. The speared fish was more than twice the size of my 20. I posted the photo here mainly because of the excitement in your comments about catching stripers...and maybe it would fire up some of guys to chase them more often. I've enjoyed reading your comments here for the few months I've been around. Hopefully, I'll be able to give a good report tomorrow. The wife are going after crappie at the bc of dawn. Time to grab my sharpie and mark my line at 20'.
  6. Mitch, Do you know the length of your fish? Great one btw. I'm guessing the one from today is approx 42". It's laying in a 100 qt ice chest in the 2nd photo.
  7. There was a mad scramble to find the scales when the call came over the radio about these guys thinking they might have a state record striper. lol I'm sure we'll have certified scales after what happened today. I'll have more info tomorrow.
  8. We weighed the big one at Cabela's. I'm with you on catching them with a bucktail jig or a lively shad.
  9. These guys stopped by the store today with a couple they speared today on Beaver Lake. 54# on the left.
  10. Mind if I use that for my profile pic?
  11. Did you clip on a 1 oz or more weight to get the #6 down for the slow troll?
  12. I just keep half of what YAKFM catches...lol. Thanks for the report, 'Fins. Looks like y'all had a great day!
  13. Good thing you weren't with us, Yak. We trolled LBN area for four hours mid-day and only caught one nice size smallmouth.
  14. Not sure we'll make it to Grand Isle, but we're going to a fish camp at Pecan Island for a couple days and spend a day cruising the swamp looking for gators with Gator Queen Liz Cavalier. We'll stay a few more days down there somewhere and do a last minute bargain charter if we find one.
  15. 8 fish total. 2 keeper walleye, 2 under 18", and 4 white bass. The wife and I trolled #7 flickers and threw some swim baits from 5:30p-8:30p. Wish we could've stayed after dark. Water temp 77, caught fish at 14-18'.
  16. What about the fishing near Grand Isle, LA? Headed there in July. And in on the meet and greet...might even let yak ride with me.
  17. That sounds great, rainbow! Limit here is 5 per person...we usually keep two fish per person and cook them the same day we catch 'em.
  18. It's the same as other fish...but easier. It doesn't take as much effort to guide a fillet knife through a trout.
  19. When my ship comes in, I'll have the HDS 7 Touch. I like my HDS 5 but wish I'd gone with the larger screen. Pinpoint technology will come out soon for the Motorguide xi5. Pinpoint will link the MG to Lowrance HDS graphs....just sit back and troll around the islands at 14' if you want to. The xi5 seems to be a nice upgrade from iPilot.
  20. Half cornmeal, half flour, and lots of Tony Chachere's Orig Creole Seasoning mixed, then fried in olive oil. Good stuff.
  21. Had a decent day throwing Rapala cd5's, spoons, and pb. Caught 4 in the 13-16 slot range and about 20 under 13".
