I say trout fish in the winter and spend more time next season smallmouth fishing. I'm a huge flyfisher and I looove smallmouth so I target them almost exclusively in the warm water months. Trout this time of year.
We arrived late Friday night, waded down to the spider creek hole, and doubled up within moments. Fished a few hours into Saturday morning. Caught 10 or 12 each on black buggers. Slept a few hours then fished hard from 7:00-5:00. Ended up with around 30 each. Best bite was on a hare n copper followed by an olive midge. Fished in between spider creek and the 62 bridge. The average size increases down there. Saturday night I met some friends in eureka and ate Jell-O shots and did some hip hop dancing. Out of character for me but I had a blast. Slept in a little Sunday but still fished for several hours. Caught a 17" bow followed by a 17" brown. 15 fish brought to hand on Sunday. Top producers were blue Dunn midge, rainbow warrior(if the sun was out) and a blue poison tung.
Pretty flat, a lot of cross country stuff which worked pretty well because of the high maintenance provided. Only trouble was riding with the wind at my back too long. The ride into the wind was tough.
Did great last night and today. The #1 fly during the day was a hare n copper. Fished downstream from spider creek. Better quality fish near hwy 62 bridge.
I am heading that way this evening. Fishing tonight, tomorrow, partying with a sexy hippie chick Saturday night in eureka, then fishing Sunday. I could not be more excited. thanks for the info. I think I will focus on spider creek to hwy 62 bridge.
I visited family in n.e. Kansas for thanksgiving. Too much ice to take fishing seriously so I brought the bike. Found some trails at the banner creek lake. A mile west of Holton kansas, north of Topeka. Trail was a mix of gravel and cross country. The cc was legit though, packed ground, no low branches, pretty fun. Nothing special.
