  1. You can find some really good fly rod and reel combos on Amazon.com. Some also come spooled up with line. My buddy got a Redington 5wt rod at 8"6 and reel with line for around $280. I just started fly fishing this year. And yes, it's addicting. I love it.
  2. I bet that was pretty cool seeing that brown work over those brooks. Yeah, makes you wonder what happens to all the brook trout. Hard little dude to catch.
  3. Thanks Ham. Yeah, they only stock them in December I believe, so I was surprised to catch that little guy.
  4. Ham, I caught the brook in a big slough right above Gastons.
  5. Was able to get away for a few days with a group of friends for a much needed fishing trip. We stay at Wildcat Shoals Resort because of the great hospitality they have and sweet Phyliss who runs the place. After we figured out who was fishing in what boat with who, my brother and I hoped into my boat and ran up river. All three days we fished the sloughs and pockets between the catch and release area above the state park, down to Sportmans Resort. Throwing 1/8 oz jigs and even 1/16 in some areas, we were able to catch good numbers all three days even with the high flow. We caught more rainbow in the 16-18 inch range than I have in the last few trips. Caught some real fattys too. I'm guessing this higher flow is given the fish a chance to grow. I was also lucky enough to complete the slam this weekend by catching all four species of trout. Good trip all in all with great friends. Some being first timers on the river catching there first trout. Big trout of the trip was my 20 1/2 inch brown. And my brother ended up catching his personal best brown of 20 inches. The smallest fish was probably my little brookie.

  7. Alex, I sent u a message.
  8. Ah yes, Mr Patterson. Gotta watch out for that guy. If he's not farming, he's jetting up and down the river. Love that dude.
  9. What a toad! Very nice looking fish.
  10. Looks like the bite was hot all over the river. Me and my son fished the white hole resort to wild cat shoals stretch that weekend and the bite was really good. Great fish and report.
  11. Right you are sir! We took it to the dock for photos since I was close and for Phillis to confirm its length. That's why he was awarded the trophy catch and release pin. All fish were released with no harm for our future generations.
  12. He loves fishing. The big brown he caught made it that much better.
  13. Thanks Ham! We seen another group of deer. Another set of twins and one really nice 8 pt in velvet. Couldn't get a good pic. Firefish, I haven't made the trip to dry run yet, but I do plan on going there in the future. I'm working on getting a fly rod in his hand before we go.
  14. I told my eight year old son we would take a few trips to the white before school started up. The last weekend of June worked out for me, so we loaded up and headed Northeast for a few days. Arrived at Wild Cat shoals resort about 12:30 and launched the boat. I started out with the fly rod on my first drift. Casting a size 12 tan jig bugger. My son was using a trout magnet and float. We drifted about a quarter mile and I think I landed 5 and my son caught a couple. Motored back up the river and picked up the spin cast. I threw a 1/16 ounce tri olive jig that I tie up and my son switched to a jerk bait. He doesn't like jig fishing just yet. The bite was hot till about 3:00 or so when the water started rolling and getting trashy. I think they had 6 units on. At least that's what I was told. We took a little lunch break and went back out. I switched to a 1/8 ounce white jig and hammered the banks. Managed to keep catching them, but not like earlier. On the last drift to the resort I managed to land a 20 inch brown. My son had to one up me and catch a 21 inch brown on a white and purple jerk bait.. He was so happy on catching his biggest brown and I was so happy seeing the smile and excitement on his face. We pulled into the resort and snapped a few pics before settling in for the evening. That night he was rewarded with a catch and release trophy pin from Phillis. The resort owner. Made his day that much better. Didn't fish on Friday because of the storms, just relaxed a little. Got back on the water really early on Saturday and immediately started catching fish. I threw a 1/16 ounce salmon pink and olive that I tie and my son couldn't put down the jerk bait. The bite was better than Thursday. It was one of my better mornings on the White. The bite never slowed down for me till about 2:00 when the water started rising. Water was once again a little trashy with 6 units on. We took a little break and got back out for the evening bite. Fished for about another hour. I threw a white 1/8 ounce jig. Didn't catch much, but I did land a 17 inch brown and a 20 inch rainbow . We called it a day after that. We fished mainly between White Hole Resort and wild cat shoals both days. I don't really keep count on fish, but I will say the bite was really hot for us from the time we started fishing till about 2-3 in the afternoon. This was a great father son trip. And the fact the my son caught his first trophy made it that much better. And he also won't give ole dad a break. He's making sure everyone knows he caught the big fish. Saw these three on the way home. The other twin is behind momma.

  16. Decided to load up the boat and take my son to the LIR for a little striper fishing. We started out with our light action spinning rods spooled with 4lb test line. I was casting a 3/32 white PJ's and my son was throwing a spinner. It wasn't no time till I hooked up on a couple and let him have the rod right away. After listening to the drag sing and watching these fish put a whooping on my son, he finally landed them. . We decided to put the light tackle away and go after some shad. After we caught what we thought was enough, we headed back up river and made are drifts. I used my salmon rod and began pitching shad up on the bank. Wasn't long and I hooked up. Started to give my son the pole, but realized this one might be a little more than he can handle. I finally got the fish of the bank and out in the middle of the river. That's when the fight began. I fought him for a bit till we finally got his head in the net. Right at 30 inches. They get a lot bigger in this river, but it was a great start to my season. It's amazing the strength that these fish have. We made a few more drifts and ended up with 11 before we ran out of shad. So we decided to call it. They averaged in the 6-8 lb range. I got a lot of enjoyment watching these fish put a beat down on my son. They wore him out. All in all it was a great Fathers Day.
  17. That's a bummer. When I do fish the LIR, I usually park at Marvels and fish up above the resort a ways.
  18. Did u happen to think about other fisherman? They to might wanna catch some fish. Sounds like u boys wore them out. Very nice buddy.
  19. Me and a buddy of mine been itching to get out with the fly rods and do a little fishing for whatever. We loaded up the truck and hooked up to the Shawnee and headed to a small lake here in eastern Oklahoma. We got out into the water and rigged up are fly rods. We were throwing 1/80 th micro jigs and just stripping them in so lightly. Made my first cast and hooked up immediately. I knew it was a crappie right away by the way it fought. We ended up with around 20 black crappie and one white before the storm blew us off the lake. Turned out being a good day not knowing what to expect.

  21. All I use to throw was rapalas and spinners as well. Buddy of mine got me on marabou jigs a few years ago and it was game on. I now pour and tie my own marabou jigs thanks to him. My tackle boxes of spinners and rapalas do nothing but collect dust.
  22. Good deal Phil. I'll tie up some productive colors in both sizes. Glad I can help
  23. I understand u guys r in need of flys. I don't tie my own yet, but I do tie up my own 1/16 and 1/8 oz marabou jigs. If you guys need any just let me know. Love to help
  24. You nailed it 5bites. Out there mowing greens and chasing gophers like Bill Murray.
  25. Yes it would. It has the dark spots on its tail and mouth as well.
