  1. Right on. I'm going down the weekend of the 17th for the maiden voyage of my new fishing kayak. I'll cover all the bases then and take my 5 wt and 7wt. As much as I like topwater I really want to work on my streamer game...thanks!!!
  2. Excellent. I have used olive n black woollies and mohair leeches before. Size 8-10. Interested in tying some smaller sized clousers 6-8 chartuese. Have you had success with those? Or pistol Pete's? I guess one of my main questions is have larger flies worked better than smaller flies or vice versa..trying to make up a huzzah/courtois specific fly box. thanks everyone.
  3. For those of you fly fisherman out there that have fly fished the Huzzah what patterns have done well for you? Mine have been mostly topwater. white and yellow poppers. Thanks!
  4. They did Wed or thurs. It was ok on Fri.
  5. The water was up of course and clouded but the fishing was good. They were hitting dries in the morning then olive mohair leeches and black bh woolies later. Nice day!
  6. Nice!!!!
  7. Right!!!! trying to come down friday.... i wonder if that would be a possibility....
  8. Hey everyone, Well i floated Cedar Grove to Akers this last weekend and lost a flyrod and a spinning rod. It was a bad idea to float anyway.... I lost the spinning rod right at cedar grove right after i put in. I was getting situated in the kayak and ran into a tree, while usually not a big deal i tipped this time... with the water so muddy i could not find it. I put my fly rod in a buddies canoe and even though they never flipped at the end of the float it was gone... It is one of my favorite rods and if anyone finds it or the spinning rod if they could respond it would be much appreciated... I learned some valuable lessons this weekend.... The main one being take only your "beater" rods with you on floats..... Thanks, Eric
  9. Huh... i guess i just lucked out on Saturday... i didnt catch as many as other times but after changing from yellow to white small popper bugs on the fly rod and crayfish patterns to olive bunny leeches on the other fly rod i saw pretty good action... nothing of size but fun to catch. my wife started with a chart roostertail and when she changed to a brown trout colored rooster it was on for her. sorry to hear about it being tough... the summer is young though... im going to the Big Piney in the beginning of July for the first time. Hopefully i'll do ok there. i'm a little conflicted on where to float though. I kinda want to float the special management section but i hear it gets pretty crowded... however im used to that crowd having been one myself in the past so maybe it wont be so bad. LOL
  10. Well the bite was good. Caught smallies and sunfish with white popper bugs, olive bunny leeches, and black BH woolies. The wife caught the same plus rock bass on brown trout rooster tails. Fun weekend!!!
  11. I just checked the discharge level this morning on the huzzah said 271. Now it might rain a bit more today but if not much more do you think it will have a bad effect? Thanks
  12. Hey fellas. Floating the courtois bass to Scotia this Saturday and will be fly fishing and the wifey will be spin fishing. How has the fishing been? Is the top water bite on yet? Thanks!!!
  13. That's what I thought for the longest time as well. Further research proved me wrong...
  14. All in all it was a good day. I caught a few longear and one smallie. The water was up a little from the rain. I caught all the fish in the shallows using black BH woolies and a couple on white poppers.
  15. Yeah I've seen em in there just haven't caught em yet... I tried my best to walk softly and creepy. I rested the holes I fished before I fished them to no avail... it wasn't a bad day though. I like going to the BSC and I fished Huzzah CA earlier in the day and caught a couple smallies n longears. Was a fun day of fishing and I shouldn't complain but...
  16. I fished there yesterday. Greedy creek chubs... Think I'll try the little piney next time. HAHA
  17. Yeah Ive been checking the forecast regularly. Looking better. U going to Huzzah CA? Good luck to both of us!!! Maybe we'll cross paths... I'm still gonna try to float the courtois if possible but people berryman to bass. If not I'll prob spend most of my time at the courtois accesses at the CA. Tight lines!!!
  18. Hoping the weather will cooperate this weekend for my float. I don't mind rain but lightning is a different story. If that be the case maybe I'll just hit up Huzzah CA and fish during the lulls in the storm. Fingers crossed...
  19. Thanks!!! I fish old school equipment exclusively. Fiberglass and old reels. That reel is on an old Garcia ultralight rod. Love those old mitchells but my cardinal 3 is my fav. Got a Dam quick this winter I've yet to try out. Probably due to the fact I primarily fly fish... its funny I tell people I fly fish/fish with old school fiberglass rods and they give me those weird looks. HAHA!! To each their own...
  20. Thanks. I'm not one to be secretive about my spots, this is a fishing forum after all, I caught em at Indian camp creek park on the st Charles/ Lincoln county line. I drive up pass the lake to the first parking lot around the bend. Then I take the trail upstream to access the stream. I've caught sunfish n smallies there a lot. Mostly with poppers on the fly rod...
  21. Interesting. I think I'll give them a call about that. Thank you sir!!!
  22. Thanks everyone. Yeah I was lucky enough to get off work early today and hit up a stream by my house today and caught a few smallies and sunfish on my spinning rod(didn't have my car fly rod with me). They were hitting rooster tails. They were feeding on top some too which gives me hope for some top water action next Saturday.
  23. Thank you. Yeah growing up I was a major part of the canoe hatch and didn't fish either creek that much. I think I'm gonna do a float berryman to bass. Talk about a canoe hatch they are having a kayak race on the huzzah next Saturday so I think I'll do the courtois....
