Okay, so its usually after a few cold beverages, but some friends and I always end up drooling over the thought of a 2 or 3 day fishing/float. Ideally beginning on the Norfork and floating into the White with a combination of Jon boats, canoes, and a maybe a kayak. I think it would be a blast, but I don't know what the ideal stopping points are for this river system. Its not as cut and dry as the buffalo. So where do you stop? what time should you leave? what time should you end up? Any other tips for manning a 2-3 day fishing trip? how can you succeed whilst understanding * unpredictable water levels * navigating the white and little red * you may have to pull through a shoal or 2 * proper boating and safety techniques

Alright guys I'm looking for a jon boat trailer that will haul a 14 foot aluminum flat bottom. Nothing real special, I just don't want to spend too terribly much! Any leads will be greatly appreciated.

trolling motor battery solutions.
TheRustyHook replied to TheRustyHook's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thanks Dutch. Makes perfect sense -
SO I have a little minn kota trolling motor with a 12 volt car battery. I get 3-4 good hours out of it, but then its dead I have to put it back on the charger. Which means hours of fishing without it. How can I get more life out of my battery? Or is there some way I can set up 2 batteries and some sort of alternator ish setup to charge one while able to use the other?

Floor Mats In Your Trout Boat?
TheRustyHook replied to mhowerton's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Restaurant quality bar mats. I inherited about 10 a few years ago, cut to fit and have used them to line 2 boats. Nonstick, durable, cleanable, and lighter than plywood sheets. -
Running one of these resorts or boat docks sounds like it would be a dream job, but its got to be a pretty tough living. you have to do everything yourself to cut the overhead.

That was the old swinging bridge resort. That I always felt was prime real estate, and would be a perfect resort location. It had a pretty crabby owner before it was sold. I was looking to buy some bait and possibly rent a boat years back when he ran us off the dock.Once he realized I wanted to buy something he was more agreeable, I never returned though. Ill have to check out this red river adventure center. The only resort left I believe is called simply "the red river trout dock."

I find it a touch ironic that the Little Red River Foundation opens there website the week of Lindsey's closing. Maybe there is some hidden agenda? It would be two very cool sites for some additional public access!

I was just up there for my bachelor party a couple of weeks ago. Awesome spot. Everyone was always super nice and inviting.

Upon farther investigation, and really for the sake of knowing, this is a nice article on the subject of largemouth vs Kentucky. Im like most of the world, I don't mind catching either one. https://forthefisherman.wordpress.com/2011/04/14/kentucky-bass-fish-identification/

Sonds like you got a pretty great deal Jason! One day I would love a cherried out supreme with a 50 Hp jet and all the bells and whistles. For right now though, I have my grandfathers 1965 9.9 Johnson which I have put more hours on then him, my father, or brothers ever had-- and anything I can strap it to. Looking forward to finding a boat and trailer for around 1,000-1,500ish. one pretty dang ugly would be pretty perfect for me ;-)

If that eye is a little orange/redish and the lateral black line almost diamondular. then wouldn't that be a kentucky? Im no expert just yet so feel free to correct me.

Awesome Info guys. What would be a good price to haggle with for a 16 foot, no leak, ugly glass jon with no motor, and a trailer? I've picked up a couple 14 foot aluminum jons for under $700, I hate to ever dead set low ball someone.

I grew up taking trips with my dad and brothers to the white river. Usually we fished from Jenkins trout dock in Calico Rock. My dad as always wanted one of those really long green fiberglass flat bottom boats that many of the trout docks provide. I have had a couple aluminum boats but he has always felt most comfortable in one of these. I know that the majority of them are made by shawnee/supreme, but I can't find one anywhere. I want to know where the guides and outfitters get their boats from! Any clues or hints? Auctions? Anything?

Ill check them out. They have some interesting size options.

I have done some research on Dorber, Rebrod, Denali... whatever the brand is. Is it on-line only?

I'm always in the market for new fishing toys, much to the mild dismay of my wife, and i am wondering if anyone has any experience with or uses/loves/hates any brand of rods that are made right here in Arkansas. I found one brand online but no vendors for them and even fewer than no reviews. I would even be interested to know about regional rod builders.

Awesome day sir! Interestingly enough, about this time two years ago I caught a really solid chain pickerel on Lake Maumelle. It was freezing cold and really really windy that day. I knew it was some sort of Pike, but I wasn't entirely certain of their status (protected, introduced, invasive etc.) in Arkansas so we released it pretty quickly. It wasn't until I got home that I did some research and found that Abe's record of 7 pounds 10 ounces. I need to go through the old phone that had the full size pictures of the fish and put them on here, but I pulled this off of my Instagram from that day.Lord forgive me for what I'm about to do. I really hate when people preface their pictures, most of the time, however, in the instance I'm going to act like a real fisherman and inflate the size of this fish for arguments case. Im 6'3" with hands nearly 9 inches from wrist to tip of fingers. With leather gloves on, my hand was no-where near all the way around this fish. I should have brought it back to the Marina, oh well hind site is 20/20 right?! So what do you think? I would bet their is a state record Chain Pickerel is out there somewhere. Probably one that will shatter ole Abe's. Good catch man, keep posting!

Late Winter Weekend On The Little Red
TheRustyHook replied to TheRustyHook's topic in Little Red River
Thanks folks. We had a blast! We had a hard time finding some clean water to fish with all the rain, but on the second day at dripping springs a friend and myself both caught our first trout on the fly. Olive woolly Bugger... man is that fun! We spent the rest of the day with no other such luck. Sunday I got a boat at lindseys and strapped on granddads ole 9.9 johnson and had a ton of luck motoring up to riffles and runs and fishing the pools underneath. No Browns (charlie brown sad face) but theres always next time. -
Looking For A Few Boats To Rent/borrow For A Weekend
TheRustyHook posted a topic in Little Red River
Hey everyone, So I'm going to be in Pangburn fishing the Little Red this weekend Just wondering if anyone had a Jon boat they would be willing to rent or lend for a couple days. I don't need a motor I have a 9.9 johnson and fuel tank of my own. Ive called Lobo and lindseys and they won't let me rent just a boat and let me take it to the cabin where we plan on staying. Any leads would be incredibly appreciated! -
HOWDY TO ALL! Brand new to the forum folks, just wanted to say hello! This weekend myself and several life long friends are going to spend the weekend on the little red near rainbow island in Pangburn. Ive been fishing the little red for about five years and have had a tremendous amount of success spin fishing for bows and browns, but i have never landed anything on a fly rod! Any late winter patterns or suggestions, to nab a fish on the fly would be highly appreciated!
