  1. Well that's just horse crap! I'm guess the upper JF is less contaminated, since poop rolls down stream. Al, I'm not big on fishing slow especially from a canoe. Now I'm sure at some point we will stop and wade a bit and then I will use some slower plastics. Top water, cranks, and weightless flukes while floating. I'm definitely going to have to do some more research on how accessible some these accesses are. The laster revision are having the trip look like this, Jerktail to Robert Field in two days. 17.2 miles sounds perfect to me.
  2. The Huzzah conservation area has good wading access on the Meramec,Coutois, and the Huzzah. Look for slower deep pools. Sometimes it seems like, when wading around gar, they want let you know they are around. Smacking the water, sipping air on the surface, and always following my cranks but never a hook up. Also, the big river and bourbouse are other good options fairly close to St. Louis.
  3. Thanks again for the input. Good the know that both put in accesses are not ideal. The Two Rivers area is where our stopping point would be on D1. Jerktail to powder mill sounds good as does adding the JF to the mix. Now I'm thinking maybe put in at Eminence on the JF to Two Rivers on D1. Two Rivers to Powder mill in D2. This will be my first trip to the Current in almost 15 years, and my first to the JF. I'll follow up with a report whether I choose this float or one of the other options. Mike
  4. Thanks for the info fellas. 2 sheds mentioned how the river gets wider and slower the further down stream you go. Is it slow enough that covering 10-12miles a day while fishing is going to be pushing it?
  5. I am in the middle of planning trip, and I have it narrowed down to few different sections on 3 different rivers.Current river options are as follows: Option #1 is rocky creek to van buren, and option#2 is jerktail landing to painted rock bluff. Now I'm looking for information about which float would have more smallies than trout, because that is going to be the main species we are targeting. Also wondering what the jet boat traffic will be like, since we will be in canoes. Anyone have an opinion of which stretch is more scenic if at all. Mike
  6. Great report. On trips like this, the fishing doesn't have to be great. It's about the free spirited journey you take to get to the fish.
  7. Waded around the conservation area on the Courtois. Threw buzzbaits, sammy's,shallow diving cranks, flukes and a senko. Almost skunked until a 14in smallmouth made my trip worth it. Plenty of activity from larger fish, just couldn't get them to bite. Was fun to watch a bass giving a turtle some trouble.
  8. I think we all would rather be on a stream right now, but use common sense and don't do it. Be safe out there folks.
  9. Well I for one appreciate your restraint. It would only take one local to see you on the MF in ajet and think holy crap i've got to try it. On a side note, how much damage/reformation do you think there has been on the MF this year? That's such a small stream, I would imagine all thus flooding has really done a number on it. On the other hand hopefully the flooding has kept the fishing pressure down.
  10. I thought it was an Alabama j-ned.
  11. I parked on the opposite side of the no-parking sign on 47 last Sunday with no issues. Actually, have been since they put the sign up. Simply moved to where there was not a sign.14 inch smallie was the best of the day. Has anyone seen the giant house right on the bank being built between 47 and kingston?
  12. I second the Cherokee purple and brandywine. Yellow pear was another favorite heirloom variety.
  13. Congrats on the success for the both of you. Beautiful fish.
  14. Thanks for the info fellas. That's kind of what I figured, but I guess I needed someone else to tell me. Might go scout out some of the smaller creeks and possibly make a cast or two. Mondays off are nice.
  15. With this stretch of warmer spring like weather, I plan on heading out for my first smallmouth trip. I plan on wading, but with the recent snow melt and and rain, I'm trying to figure out what stream would better fit my needs. I have it narrowed down the amidon area or 72 bridge on the Castor. On the black the k bridge or Lesterville access. Are these feasible options with current water levels. Any advice would be appreciated. Mike
