  1. The Marabou was donated by this handsome fellow...
  2. any guesses as to what the "mystery Marabou" is?
  3. "Mystery" Marabou...what do you think? Yay or Nay?
  4. We timed out trip perfect! or we just got really lucky! The lake was really moving Tuesday afternoon/evening especially with the rains. The fish I caught Saturday-Tuesday were puking up everything from scuds to sculpins and one was puking up sweet corn!
  5. Thanks! Your reports encouraged me to start tying jigs for trout fishing! I pitched a bunch of jigs and that was the only fish I caught, it was easier to sit on the dock and visit while the power bait soaked! Glad a jig landed a good one!
  6. It was a toad. I have no idea on the weight but it was as wide as 2x6 it was laying on in the pic. Any thoughts in weight? I am thinking right around 3 lbs. Maybe a tad more. It was a blast on my UL and 2 lb test!
  7. Dang auto correct! I meant to start off by saying "I spun up some jigs"
  8. I sound up some jigs for this years annual trip down to Tanneycomo. Second cast not a bad fish! Catching some nice bows as well on power bait. Size is definitely up from last year.
  9. This is good news! I am headed down the 13th-16th and am hoping the water isn't screaming so I can fish off of the docks!
  10. Thanks! I think I am set, still might spin up a few more!
  11. These reports are killing me! I can't wait to get down there in a couple of weeks! Phil if you had to suggest 3 or 4 jig color combos what would they be for the middle of June?
  12. Well I will be fishing LONG before I make it down there! Just have to deal with walleyes, crappies and gills until I get down there! After school we are going to check to see if the ponds have cleared off around here!
  13. Thanks! I will probably just keep tying with what jigs I can pour. And yes I really enjoy tying! I am not worried about having too many jigs, I plan on fishing them on my home waters for panfish, bass and eyes. I have a feeling most of these combos will cross species borders! Thanks again guys I am really anxious to get down there! Only 3 more months...
  14. There in lies my problem as well, I my mold doesn't have a 3/32nd slot. I am I going to be missing out by jumping from 16th straight to 8th oz jigs? I have a source for some if needed I can purchase them.
  15. Some that I have made include the following marabou: Olive, Brown, Light olive, and ginger. I tear the barbules off the stem then kind of stack it all together. I am thinking that should be a good combo, thoughts?
  16. I will definitely report back with results throughout my trip!
  17. Ok I have one more question, What is sculpin colored marabou look like? Whenever I have tried to order some I can not find it? I am not sure if any of my small jigs were in any of the pics, I think most of those were 1/8ths, 16ths and maybe a few 32nds. The little ones I have been tying (64th and 80th) are much smaller than the others I have been mixing up. I also think that my jigging rod will work with the heavier jigs and will just use my UL for the smaller jigs. I have also never had a problem landing larger fish with it. I am an avid carp angler and have landed multiple fish over 10 pounds on my UL so hopefully that isn't an issue. I am super anxious to get down there again this year! This is a trip I look forward to every year, and hopefully this is the year that I land something worth bragging about instead of just a bunch of eaters!
  18. Thanks! We have always stayed just down stream of you Phil at Lazy Valley, this summer I plan on stopping into your tackle shop!
  19. Also wondering about my jigging rob. I plan on bringing my St. Croix Legend Tournament, it is 6'6" Fast action ML power. It is a dream to cast and work I think it should do just fine. I will also be using my 6' Quantum UL that I have used down there for years with a Presidente on it. I am just excited to get down there this June! What styles of floats are popular? I was looking at some thill pro series weighted bobbers in Small and Medium, how would these work for float and jig setup with the small jigs? Would Rainbow casting bubbles work better?
  20. Well Luckily I really like tying them! I already have a whole box full of natural colors along with black and white. These range from 1/80th-1/8th ounce. I will give it my best effort to try and learn what I can in the short time I am down there! Hopefully I will hook into a big one! My best down there is a 15" Brown and a 15" Rainbow. Last year in my 4 days fishing I did manage to catch 54 trout, the other gentleman I was fishing with in that same time caught 10. The day after I left he sent me a text of the 22" 4+ pound rainbow he caught!
  21. I have made several trips to Tanneycomo and have done decent fishing from docks with power bait, this summer I decided I am going to up my game and make some jigs to try. I have been following the reports and info from Lilley's Landing. I think I might have made a few jigs that should work, what are your thoughts? I have noticed that most of the jigs I have seen have collars, my mold and jigs do not, is this a serious disadvantage? Thanks in advance! I am an experienced jig fisherman for other species but have never chucked them while down there!
