  1. Are you thinking it will be ok by Sunday morning or later in the day? I, my dad, and my son were planning on reserving a float for Sunday but I did not set that up when I saw the potential rain forecast last week.
  2. We will be looking to rent kayaks so how early can we get out from HV?
  3. What stretch of the Huzzah is more popular with your average floater - Harper's -HV or HV-Scotia? Trying to plan a trip on Father's Day and looking to avoid as much crowd as possible, if possible. Is there a section of the Courtois that would be better for being the least crowded?
  4. cwc87 - I have some questions on some Huzzah trips, but it appears your PM's are either full or disabled.
  5. I don't get to fish the rivers a lot, but always had a jig and a fluke or trick worm rigged up in the past. I always did well with these. Last week I had a smaller spook and the lure that shall not be named on. I tried the spook first and got a few bites, but they weren't hammering it. Lots of short strikes. I'm not the best with a wtd lure and I need more practice. I then switched to The Rig and started catching fish. We (3 of us) finally figured out a good pattern (slow current, wood) and at every decent spot we would pick up a fish or two. Funny thing is there was a another pair of anglers fishing wtd in the same spots and catching fish. They did catch slightly more than our total and there biggest was better than ours. I think a spinnerbait may have had the same results as the wtd and our bottom rigs. Lure type didn't matter near as much as the distinct pattern that day.
  6. Thanks Joe D. I figured it would be busy on a Sunday, but wasn't sure if the outfitter specials added many more floaters. I fished last Friday and only saw two canoes and two kayaks (OAF Members) the whole day Caught a few fish but nothing big. All on the mighty Ned Rig. I don't make many trips down, but when I do it's during the week.
  7. I know some the outfitters run specials on Father's Day. How busy are these rivers on Father's Day in given year. Looking to possibly get some fishing done with my dad and oldest son. Thanks
  8. Same here but I always catch a few around the bridge. So much float and jet boat traffic in that stretch that it probably has some negative effects on the fishing.
  9. While targeting whites and hybrids on the Mississippi this morning I came across this: An example of the few hybrids we caught:
  10. Thanks Al. We took a raft 2 years ago staring 6 miles above Bass after the high water receded enough to float but still flowing pretty strong. Even in the raft there were times that I was pretty nervous. Two bends above Bass we actually walked the raft across a rock bar because the run just look to dangerous to go through. I only caught one bass on that trip and it was 2lb+ Spot holding on the edge of the current next to some backwater. We usually take a longer float on the other streams and the last few miles is always more paddling than fishing. I think we will have them put us in up near Hwy 8 / Berryman, especially since we will be in Kayaks. That will give us plenty of fishing opportunites and the boys will have more river time for the day. Hopefully we don't get a big rain that weekend.
  11. Longtime lurker, first time poster I will be taking my son and nephew on a kayak fishing trip on the Courtois the last week of May and just curious on what might be the best float. My son and I floated from Bass down to Ozark Outdoors last year and had a great float. Since it was a long float, his first time in a kayak, and the occasional thunder shower, we did not fish hard at each spot but we did have plenty of action and I got some nice ones on the fluke bite. I was thinking of taking a shorter float (6 mile) so we could take our time and fish hard for bass, goggle eye, and sunfish. I will focus more on bass while they will throw lures to entice all. In your opinion would Bass to Scotia or Blunts back to Bass be the better float. I did float back to Bass 2 years ago, but it was after high water and the flow was still too strong when we went so it wasn't much of a fishing experience for us. I am not against starting at Berryman either but have never been up that far. We look forward to fishing the area at least once each year but have focused on the Meramec and Huzzah in the past. We will also be fishing around a month earlier than normal. Thanks
