  1. Went back to BSC Tuesday 2/23 caught two small 4 inch trout. Most frustrated fishing I have ever done. Trying to be stealthy and get into position to lob a cast without getting snagged on a willow or low hanging branch at times seems impossible.
  2. Man, I haven't had the name of Doc. Henshall invoked in forever. Good on ya' Brian. Bill.
  3. Al shouldn't have to take pictures, he should draw them.
  4. I have got to start the smallmouth gears turning. These trout are fun but my first love is the smallmouth.
  5. I only lost two flys. A San Juan worm and an egg pattern. I snagged a lot, I was using my five weight, 81/2 foot and I wasn't casting as much as flipping the fly. The two I lost happened when I tried a backcast.I tried a small olive flashabugger and a bh midge nymph but no takers. I will go back and try a soft hackle and some other flies now that I have some idea of what the creek is like. I should have mentioned in the first post that the two trout I caught were from the first hole I tried. The first cast I got hit, the second cast was the monster eight incher, the third cast was a five or six inch. I need a better phone as I would have taken some pictures bu the camera on my phone just sucks. I have to go back and read some more of the past post and see what worked for other fisherman. See you on the water, Bill
  6. Made my first trip to BSC today, Caught two of the prettiest trout I think I have ever caught. In three cast. Also landed a small bass as well. This was a tough little creek to fish, I had to detour around a few downed trees and fishing the little holes around the root wads was really frustrating.
  7. Travis Swift, I recently observed a very large trout at Maramec Spring with a tail about two or two and a half inches or possibly wider. I think it was the tail of a trout but there are goggle eye and sunfish in the spring as well. So yes I'm sure they would be capable of taking a really large bait.
  8. Just below the first dam below the big hole. Started to turn around and stumbled on one of those stones scattered around the steam bed, started to right myself when the other foot found another stone. It was more embarrassing than anything. The weather was cool but not too bad and I only got a little water down the waders but totally soaked my upper right side. I've floated my hat before. One time duck hunting in freezing weather, I mean so cold the water on the Carhartt jacket froze so fast I barely got wet.
  9. Is the road a public road or private. Is there room for him to get around you with his farm equipment?
  10. That is one beauty of a rainbow trout. It looks like a painting, except for the big hands.
  11. Back down to Maramec springs on Thursday. Fishing was fair I caught six including my first brown, he was about 15 to 16 inches and a real beauty and a nice bow that was an acrobat and took a while to land. I tried to take a picture with my phone, it really is a good phone but a very poor camera. I am trying to decide if i want the new phone or some badly needed gear. Anyway, I had planned on staying till the siren at quitting time but took a swim around 3:00 and called it a day. This is why I fish the park in the winter, if I am on the river I would probably be a lot farther from my car and freezing. I am kind of sad to see the C&R season over. I've learned a lot, thanks to many members of this board. Jackdizo, Try some of the small stuff in the film but we had a stiff breeze and didn't get any takers.
  12. Gavin, I was wondering the same thing about parking at the bridge. I talked to one fisherman with his young daughter and there was another guy downstream. Parking under the bridge would be a problem if it got muddy, the ruts are getting to be epic.
  13. Most of my fishing in the past has been for smallmouth on the Current and Black river. All on spinning and baitcasting equipment. And now I'm looking forward to fishing for smallies with the fly rod.
  14. That uphill is the problem for me. I am older and not in the best of shape with asthma on top of that. So I'll wait till they open the gates. The water at the 63 bridge looked really nice and if my wife wasn't along I probably would have given it a go but this was an outing to spend time with the light of my life it didn't seem right. I will be going back after seeing some of the pictures and hearing you talk about it. Maybe I'll bump into you down there.
  15. I would like to thank everyone for the help. The people on Ozark Anglers are very helpful. Since I started fly fishing this has been the most informative and helpful. Thanks again. Bill
  16. Eric82, How far down that hill to the campground? What baits would you recommend? I just started up fly fishing again after a thirty-year diversion and trying to decide what works is a problem for me. The learning is the fun part. Gavin, We drove down and checked out the creek at the bridge it looked really inviting. I didn't try it out since my wife and I was out enjoying the day. I will definitely try out the creek soon. Thanks everyone for all the information. This site is the best everybody is so helpful.
  17. Thank's jackdizo, I have been fishing midge nymphs in size 18 and 20 with some success. I have just decided to try some other flys like you suggested. I have been fish smaller than I ever would have considered before and it does seem that that is what they want, I just seem to have a hard time keeping them hooked up. I de-barbed all of my flys but the smallest as I have had some of the hooks break, even as careful as I am. As the weather warms up I will be moving out of the park to the rivers and streams. The park is nice but it's really not my style of fishing.
  18. Can anyone tell me when this are opens again and is this the best place to access the trout area? New to this area and I wanted to check it out Saturday so the wife and I took a drive to check it out. The gate was closed and locked. There were cars parked at the entrance and about four young men with skateboards getting ready to run the road downhill from the gate. Just answered my own question. Thanks, Bill
  19. I went back on Friday and didn't do well at all. I couldn't get a good hook set to save my life. Most of the people I talked to remarked that they were hitting lightly or short. I had two fish come up and take my Palsa and swim with it. Next time I'll rig a hook in it. There are a lot of really large trout stacked up in the pools. I was told that the high water damaged the dam in the spring and some of the large trout escaped into the general population. Lots of nice fish in there I saw one Large trout with the tail of a fish sticking out of his mouth, and that was not a small tail. I had a very dark, almost black caddis land on me. It resembled a Goddard caddis fly. could anyone tell me if this was a stone fly or some other type of caddis? I would say it was a size 14 or 16. I'm leaning towards the 14 though.
  20. 8 pound bass on light spinning tackle using a rebel jerk bait. It was on a small lake my dad lived on. One of the neighbors saw me land it and was real happy when I returned it to the waters.
  21. Beauty day, slow early then picked up. The first fish broke off. The next fish was a 19-inch rainbow. after that, I picked them up often enough to make the day pleasurable. Glo-balls caught the majority and a couple came on a WD-40 size 20. I had some flys buzzing around and had a beetle crawling on me so I tried a terrestrial beetle but no lock. It got bumped but no takers.
  22. I remember that it was known for nice bass and crappie but when I fished it I didn't see either, The wind was blowing so hard that we ran the battery down in the bass boat. I might have to give it a try come spring.
  23. Any information on Council Bluffs. Fished a while back, pretty lake with OK fishing.
  24. There is an MT site on the forum that has been getting some attention lately. They would like to have more posting over there. Get the lake the attention it deserves.
  25. Haris122, I think someone was yanking the chain with that crack about MK being an ugly lake. It really is a pretty lake without a bunch of old shacks and docks like LOZ. The problem I always had was going out on a dark night and finding your way back by the light of all those stars. Made you just want to stay out until morning. The fish are there, they are hard to keep track of them with the water fluctuation.
