But, again, I point to intent. An agent would have to be a Barney Fife character to write a ticket on such a thing. I'd interject that the only way he'd write a ticket is if the angler was belligerent about the confrontation with the agent. Otherwise, I think they'd have a good laugh. Natural... hummm... I'd think hair, and fur would be "natural". Certainly not artificial. Feathers? Cork? Not in the code, not legal? That covers alot of territory. Sure you want to go there? And a bean isn't "bait". Again- going to intention. I am fly fishing with something I'm not trying to get an advantage of because it's "natural". It's the same size and shape of a bug and it floats. It has a "natural" crack where the hook goes. It's shell is round, exactly like a beetle. It's not "fly tying material" covered under the code? What is? I can name dozens of items in an arts and crafts shop that aren't considered "fly tying material" that could be used to tie flies and they'd be ok with MDC. Comparing corn and marshmallows to a coffee bean isn't comparing apples to apples. Find something else that would be a closer comparison and I might relent. Shaffer... where are you anyhow!?! Defend you fly!!

Natural - fish smell like the codes states. Everything has a natural smell. Natural to attract fish is what it speaks to. PS- it took an hour to post this... too many phone calls and selling fishing lisc's. I'm not keeping up today. Good debate.

Still don't buy it. Comparison to corn... corn doesn't smell. What smells is what you soak it in - what comes in the can or whatever you chose. The other is the size and how it's fished. It goes to intent. You're fishing a coffee bean on the surface to imitate a beetle. It's a lure, a fly. If the bean smelled like something natural that would attract a strike, then yes, it'd be illegal. But it does not. It's a coffee bean.

It's reading the code that way. Seen it before. So I don't think I see anything in the code that I would identify coffee beans under. Am I missing something?

Yea- I can see it now. The judge would laugh MDC right out of the room. Coffee Bean illegal- natural bait?!?!? Come on. This one I have to take exception of. It is not soft. It does not hold a scent except for it's natural smell - coffee. With glue and head cement applied, the smell wouldn't even get through. I'm looking forward to trying it. Waiting for Brian to come over and make some- then go out and try. Will video our results!

This is similar to the event we did a couple of years ago but extended to a weekend, not just a day.

Live bait is allowed. It will be like the RAW or Boswell tournaments. We may shut off the trophy area... most people who fish these where bait is allowed don't go up there anyhow. No trailering of boats. No wading.

I need to get out and try them. Brian- you need to come over and show me how to tie the bean. BTY- I asked MDC about the bean being legal in the trophy area... no response so I guess they're ok.

I'll be catching up tomorrow as well... I haven't been in the loop for 3 weeks. Just now looked and saw they've been running water everyday. Babler said it was tough but then he had a good guide trip the other day. We'll try the usual Taneycomo things and see what happens.

I'll have to check... I'm not making the rules. But I'd think so. Just a friendly tournament to raise some money. I've heard there's already quite a few regulars signed up.
