What do you think? Read some of the comments... My opinion- the trooper would have had to physically restrain this guy eventually so why not use a device that's made for sure a situation. The guy wasn't harmed. This is just the world we live in now... crazy people roaming the rodes and troopers put their life on the line. Who knows what this guy was up to- on drugs? Seemed like he wasn't all there. Traffic speeding by- you could make a case that the trooper was trying to protect the guy from being hurt IF he had to restrain him physically. But I may be all wet....

I am considering becoming a Cortland Pro Shop. That means I have to make a substancially large initial order from Cortland in rods, reels and line. I'm especially interested in carrying their lines. But when I mentioned this to Bill Babler, his reply was "their lines are junk!" Not what I wanted to hear. I defended Cortland a bit, stating they offer dozens of lines of fly line and he had probably only tried one or two and they were just the wrong application to what he needed. He conceeded I may be right. After hearing Bill's opinion, I thought I might post the question to the hundreds of wise souls on OAF and see what I get. I liked their new line of rods- their Brook Series. Great feeling, very pretty and they come with a hard case with reel pouch for $130. Their Diamond Flawless Series is nice too. Both are new. What way ye?

What's The Fascination With Fly Fishing?
Phil Lilley replied to Trout God's topic in General Angling Discussion
There's anglers on both sides of the isle... bassers, flyroders, spinners, deep seaers, even giggers. Some are exclusive and some are cross the lines and try them all. That's the glory of fishing. -

Did you know standing in cold water burns calories? I do it to lose weight. -
This is an old scam. It was in the paper last spring warning Branson merchants. Just like most scams... it works 1 out of 100 and that's enough for the crooks. I've filed a complaint with the Missouri attorney general- we'll see if it goes anywhere.

These are 2 emails I got today. I responded to the first one, giving him the info he wanted. I knew it was a scam but wanted to play along to see what he'd do. Here they are: Hi, I am William Walter from the UK,i would like to book reservation for 4 people that will be coming for vacation in your area on the 13th of January to the 23rd of January 2008. If you have vacancy for the specified period, give me the total cost for the whole period of 2 single or double rooms for 10 nights for 4 guest. Also, confirm if you will accept major credit card for your payment. Thank you and looking forward to hearing from soon. Kind Regards, Dr. William Walter St. Andrew's House Regent road Edinburgh EH13DG Scotland reply- > Thank you for your inquiry. > > We have 2 singles for the nights you've requested. > The total cost would > be $1592.64 with a discount, plus sales tax. > > We do except all major credit cards. All we would > need, though, is a > card number to hold the reservation. > > the Lilleys > Dear, Thanks for your quote/total cost for our booking.I am glad to tell you that we have concluded payment arrangements. However we are going to send you the Credit Card Information, that will cover the cost of our booking and the necessary arrangements for the guests. Moreover, we also made an arrangement with a flight/travel agent who is handling the flight and traveling logistics, But the flight/travel consultant has just informed us that they have just applied to their bank for their online credit card processing facility, and at the moment their bank is yet to install their online credit card processing/payment system, and it may take some time for them to complete the installation. Consequently, I humbly ask that you assist us in making the payment for our flight and other transportation/travelling arrangements to the flight/transportation agent on our behalf. So once you are in receipt of the credit card details, you are required to charge the credit card, and confirm the amount of ($10,592.64), in your account then deduct cost of your services ($1592.64) and send ($8,000) to the travel/Flight agent whose information will be forwarded to you once this is confirmed. So confirm this and provide me with your: (1) YOUR FULL NAME (2) ADDRESS (3) PHONE NUMBERS for office records. The travel/flight agent will be in charge of the following services: 1) The processing procurement of flight tickets 2) The handling and processing of the guests luggage. 3) The arrangements and booking of airport transfer/pickups both on arrival and on departure. We look forward to having a memorable vacation with you. Kind regards, Dr. William Walter +447024062538 +447024091908 Fax#: +44-7005-806-775

What's The Fascination With Fly Fishing?
Phil Lilley replied to Trout God's topic in General Angling Discussion
I like to play golf although most people think it's a stupid game- waste of time and money. But I'm pretty good at it. I've loved fishing since I was 2. Started casting a fly rod at 10. I'm 49 now. My least favorite is bass fishing, surprisingly. Least favorite technique is trolling and jerking a spoon. I bounce between fly fishing and spin fishing. I do what the conditions dictate and/or what I feel like doing at the time. I think it all depends on personality and experience. At 31 you may like to bass fish. At 49 you may love to fly fish. Who knows. But it's all good. -
Too cool! Thanks for sharing!!

I would think so too... but who wants to waste an anydeer tag on a basket rack? That's the mindset sometimes but I agree with what you say. My button had antlers which were curled back on it's head. It probably would not have made a good rack at maturity. I thought it was a doe when I shot and even didn't see the small antlers when I first inspected the deer. I may bring this up to the guys next time I see them. The only other thing is you can't control what others take around you... almost negates the purpose of trying to manage a deer population.

Bman- you must have talked to him to find out this was his site? I'd like to see his pics from Taney. Ron- nice pic!

On Tuesday, the two of us fished from the Lilley's dock late that afternoon with closed face reels and using power bait. No success. Wednesday - with temperatures in the low 50's, five of us boated on Taneycomo towards the dam and fished from 3:00-4:30 p.m. The river was barely running, all of us were using spin cast or closed-face reels with either power bait or jig. Only two rainbow trout were caught on pink power bait (both thrown back because of size). We headed down to The Landing to try our luck there from 4:30-5:45 p.m. By this time the temperature was dropping probably into the upper 40's and the wind was picking up. No fish were caught at various places around The Landing using powerbait or jig. Thursday - no fishing. Friday - fished from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. by boat on Lake Taneycomo; temp. around 55 degrees and sunny. Four of us headed to Cooper Creek area and used power bait with spin case or closed-face reels, but no success. We then traveled beyond Cooper Creek all the way to the power lines, caught two rainbow trout using pink and white gulp power bait right away. Did experience some flurry of biting and good strikes, but by 4:00 p.m. biting had slowed way down. We boated back up past Lilleys towards the dame and fished for another hour until about 5:00 p.m. Some biting, but no fish caught. Tried not only power bait, but weighted cork with power bait, and domino. Very noticeable fish action at the surface as we boated back to the public access boat ramp - wished for more time and skill to take advantage of the flurry of activity at that time of day. All in all, a frustrating fishing experience, but we are not deterred from coming again to Lilley's and trying again next year. We loved Cabin #1 and look forward to coming back, hopefully with better luck. Susan Head

Did you notice the aquarium? It's supposed to be a copy of Taneycomo...

Vince and I went up to Sullivan County east of Trenton, MO. We hunt on about 800 acres owned by 5 buys who fish here in the winter. They've been hunting together since they were teenagers... now all over 50, they just completed a dream guy's hunting lodge on land they've groomed into quite a deer hunting meca with big timber, brush and food plots. If only the big bucks would cooperate. Over opening weekend, 8 hunters reported seeing over 80 deer. Of course the numbers dwindle after the guns start and human odor permeates the woods. But we saw quite a few deer- mostly young bucks though. In the north part of the state a buck has to have 4 points on one side to kill. We saw 3-4 legal bucks but the farm rules say the antlers must be outside the ears which these were not. Our group did see several shooters but did not have good shots. I ended up killing a doe and a button buck. Gerry, one of the owners, gave us another doe. He killed a big doe on Wednesday, field dressed just over 150 pounds. Weather was great and so was the fellowship.

Gary- is there a bass pro schedule of seminars online? If so where? I'd love to post them on oa.

Thanks for joining and posting information about your tournaments. Buster Loving is one of our top guides and fishes your tournaments... he keeps in up of what's happening. One thing about posting on these forums, Derek- put "http://" in front of your url (interent address) and it becomes a clickable link for those interested in seeing what you're posting about. This includes your signature. I changed the link in this post for you already. Thanks again- and let me know if you need anything.

I've seen a couple of questions about OAF hats. For those who are new comers, we had them made, what, a year ago. I have them in our shop and can mail them out to anyone who wants one. They're $12.00 (I think) plus MO sales tax for those in MO and alittle shipping (whatever it costs to mail them). You need to email Megan if you want one this week. I'll be gone hunting and won't get your request till I get back Friday. megan@lilleyslanding.com

I guess every area is different... I talked to a friend who hunts family land NE of Sedalia and they've only killed one deer- they usually kill 10 or more on opening weekend and 10-15 more the rest of the week. He thinks they're there, just not moving. Babler's killed a couple around Camdenton. Vince's son killed an 8 point here locally on Saturday.
