For the most past, fishing was very good this weekend. One group- John Johnson's party from OK- have been fishing scuds, zebras, micro jigs and marabou jigs under an indicator from the "Narrows" to Lookout and have caught alot of rainbows. Largest so far is about 16 inches. I joined them last night for a fish fry- very tasty!! Today they are fighting the wind. But I just talked to a couple of them and the sculpin/orange head 1/125th oz jig under a float is knocking them dead this morning. One went to the dam and fly fished- scuds- I told him to try down at rebar. He said he did well- largest rainbow was 17 inches. He said one guy carried out a nice 5 lb rainbow.

But they were up in 4-5 feet of water. Also caught 2 keeper walleye same technique.

You know the comparson between baiting deer and baiting fish is the best example I've seen- thanks Randall. In Kansas, and I'm sure other state, baiting deer is legal (Michigan too). It is illegal in Missouri and I believe Arkansas. Chumming in Arkansas is "illegal?"... I think it is. Shuffling is considered chumming. It's legal in Missouri to chum. May be the issue is making chumming illegal in Missouri? That would be a hard task. BUT IF other states like Arkansas, Colorado and New Mexico have outlawed shuffling, why can't Missouri? Why can't MDC at least seriously consider it- host public forums and discuss it with the public and make a definitive decision. That's what we need to ask for- a day in "court" so as to voice the public's opinion and then let the professional managers make their call once and for all. I will make this an issue with the local TU chapter.

Who's district is the land in? US Congress.

I'll ask my father-in-law about it. He works for DNR and has contacts in Jeff City.

Taneycomo Area Campgrounds?
Phil Lilley replied to CaptainT16's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
KOA, State Park on Table Rock, Cooper Creek and the city campground downtown. Gerths- Garths just up 165 from the dam is open I think. -
Very doubtful that we will see any at all. We'd have to get hard generation which is again doubtful... but it's possible.

Supposed to hit 70's and possbily 80's this week. Should do something good for fishing the Ark...

Funny- I talk to alot of people about the way Branson was and what it is now. But places like Riverlake don't change. There's no new construction on Acacia Club Rd, no construction across the lake, may be a few more boats but really not that many more. And for the most part people are very friendly on the water. BTW - we had a contract on RL when the Thompson's had the resort in 1982... Bob Klein came up with the money first and beat me out of the sale. I like the way things have turned out though.

This is what I got back from Invision - There is nothing in the error logs that shows any emails failing from IPB's side. With the users who are having issues with this, have they checked their junk mail filter? And did it suddenly stop working, or has it not worked for them from the start? I know Danoinark has had problems since the beginning with his notification. Let me know so I can answer.

Admitting a mistake
Phil Lilley replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Steve and I have come to an understanding I'm glad to say. All is well. -
This is an open letter to the members and nonmembers of this forum- MSR Webmaster Steve posted a series of topics and posts today with links to his site and to other informative sites, 13 in fact. As I read each of the linked pages, including another forum, I decided to act in haste instead of really considering the consequences. I failed to contact Steve to discuss the post and deleted the posts. I was wrong. I ask forgiveness of Steve and the readers of the forum. I feel I've betrayed your trust as management of the forum. I was wrong in not talking to Steve before I acted. Steve is alittle ticked and he has a right to be. I don't intend this to be a thread to discuss if and who and whatever... it's just a statement from me. Thanks- Phil

It would be difficult to add anything but fishing here since it's "ozarkanglers"... Jim does own "ozarkhunters.com" and we've considered putting a forum there but that will have to be down the road a bit. I have my hands full with this forum. But thanks for asking.

Stimulator Recipe: Hook: TMC 200R / or 2303 Sz 4-10 Thread: UTC 70 Fl. Orange Tail: light elk hair Body: Fl. Orange Ice Dub (dubbing) Lower Body: Grizzly Hackle Wing: light elk hair w/ Krystal Flash Thorax: Char. Ice Dub (dubbing) Upper Body: grizzly Tying Instructions: Start the thread and wind to the bend. Tie in about half a pencil length of elk hair. Make sure you stack it in a hair stacker before tying it in. One thing I want to share with you is, if you are tying this step without cutting your hair to size and then tying it in then you are adding an extra step for yourself. What I mean is when you tie that hair in do you see a lot of excess hair that you have to cut after words in the front. If so try to cut it to where only a little of the tips are showing when you go to tie it in. It will save you time and trouble. Look at how much I have in my thumb and forefinger when I go to tie it in. Then when you go to tie in the excess in front there is not too much to tie. This will help the thread build up that would happen if you had to tie in a lot of excess hair with thread wraps. You have to keep small back there so you have a nice tapered look going up the fly. If you notice on stimulator patterns the back where the dubbing starts it goes from small to big with the dubbing. If you have a lot of thread wraps in the back you will not accomplish that look. Once you have tied down the elk hair you are ready to tie in the Grizzly hackle. You are going to tie the feather in at the tip. It also will be tied in concave. The shinny side will be facing up. Now you’re going to dud the fly up just past the middle of the shank. Always pay attention to proportions. That is what I see wrong with most patterns that are newly tied. Always look at pictures when learning new flies. It will definitely help you in the long run. Wrap the feather up to where the dubbing stops. Depending on how you want you fly to sit in the water will determine how many wraps you tie up. I like to wrap about five to six turns. Tie in about eight strands of krystal flash. Then measure the flash to the end of the elk hair and cut to length. Now your ready to tie in the next section of elk hair. Measure the next clump to the same size as the krystal flash. Repeat the same step as I illustrated in picture two. Tie in the next grizzly hackle, but this time you are going to tie in the feather with the fat side instead of the tip side. You want the hackle to tapered to be smaller at the eye. Now dub the fly up to the eye. You want the dubbing to be dubbed going from big to small. You will not need a bunch so try to grab a small amount of dubbing when putting on the thread. If you are having trouble keeping the dubbing on the thread you are probably dubbing to big of a clump in one area. Try to space it out so when you are dubbing the ball it is small enough to grab the thread when you spin it. Also only go one direction when dubbing on the thread. Wrap the hackle about three to four turns and whip finish the fly and that’s it. Just make sure you still have enough dubbing showing thru the wraps. Stimulator

I would fish the wind blown bank- where the waves are hitting. Wind usually pushes bait fish and groups them up.

The otter issue should be another topic possibly.

I gotta hand out the kuddos to you guys... you've done a great job on this topic without a single desparaging word against anyone (well almost). I commend you- seriously. Thanks guys.

OK... This guy can hold his own on the topic of stripers and big cats. His only drawback he's an OU fan.

You have my curiosity up... who are you!?

I've been told 'there isn't a fly under the sun that hasn't already been invented'. I'm not 100% sold on that thought but it may be close. Especially with the development of new materials, the possibilities are endless. Speaking of materials, I visited with a seasoned angler once- he told me back in the ??'s (50's- maybe 60's), they found what was called a doll fly in a shop near Grand Lake. They used and caught crappie on them like there was nothing else better. After the last jig fell apart, they used the filters on their cigarettes in substitute for the feathers and it worked. Never will forget that story.

I have pics of Big Hill when they were working on the lake-bottom before filling it. Our boy scout trout used to hike and camp out there in the mid 70's. There's a place on the ne side of the lake- a small lake or big pond- that we used to call Bath Lake. Big Hill actually runs up again the dam of the small lake I understand. Anyhow- I almost bought that place way back when- had dreams of creating a fishing/hunting lodge. Wish I had bought it now cause with Big Hill the property I'm sure is worth alot more today.
