  1. Can someone share exactly where Capps is? Also, what kind of access is there and directions to them. Thanks
  2. I just bought 14 mink pelts off ebay and have started to mix mink with antron. Rolan Duffield shared a mixture with me he uses when tying scuds that's one of the deadliest flies on the lake next to "peppy".
  3. I have alot of custom mixed colors of Needleoft Yarn I sell in the shop and tie with myself. Brad Wright uses it in his scuds and sculpins. You can get it at WalMart and Hobby Lobby but it's hard to find some colors now. I stocked piled a bunch of it last summer.
  4. I'm watching the troutcam monitor- I dropped a black zebra down with a bell wieght below it to hold it down- just dropping a zebra didn't work cause the trout kept taking it out of the camera's view. It's getting eatened 6-10 times per minute- one trout took it 4 times in a row before leaving it. Most are taking the midg hard- all the way in the mouth. funny thing they are hitting the bell weight too and when they do it moves the fly and that triggers alot of attention to the fly. I also have a jig jead with some colored yarn. they are taking it but not all the way in the wouth. The chubs like the jig better. What's interesting is how they are taking the jig- some aren't even taking it all the way in their mouths but beating it with their lips. No wonder we hook trout outside the mouth so often. Sorry if there is alot of errors in my typing- I can't keep my eye off the screen. I need to record this
  5. If the reports, say this spring's crappie reports, are spread out more- the reports wouldn't hurt particiluar areas like just reporting on one area, like Long Creek. Before, you only read my reports and reports others may have emailed in to me. Now the forum gives other easier opportunity to report on many other areas where I'm sure crappie and other species of fish are. My hope is for education more than reporting a good mud flat or riffle although a head's up is always nice.

  7. No generation- just foot traffic on the dock and boats going by. I hung a 1/32nd oz jig in front of the camera. Line- 4 lb green trilene Jig- Marabou sculpin, orange head The hook has been cut before the bend- no way for the trout to be hooked. Because the water's been running at night, the water has cleared a bunch. And there's some big, fat rainbows under there today- just appeared.
  8. Forsythian- nice to see you here. Brian doesn't get up till midafternoon... he'll be here soon. Phil
  9. I've been having discussions with a couple of friends (really- this has been ongoing for quite awhile) about what fishing reports on the internet does to reported fishing "holes". Last spring, I reported crappie were excellent at Long Creek. We saw lots and lots of people fishing Long Creek after the reports were given. I reported walleye and whites were excellent a couple of years ago at a certain spot on Bull Shoals- at night- and the next night there were dozens of anglers in thaa spot (my fishing buddy who told me about the spot still hasn't forgiven me yet ) My point - I know there's alot of guys on this forum, registered or not, who won't share good spots or at least posting timely reports (delaying a day, two or more) so's not to have their good fishing spot overrun. So what do we do? I've reporting on fishing for 8 years on the internet. 90% of the time I report exactly what I hear or see, not holding back any info from the public. The other 10% is info I am asked not to report- or- areas used by guides who would KILL me if I devulged their spots, esp on Table Rock, bass humps and points that are used by them on trips and even tournaments. Do we like fishing in crowded coves or rivers bends? Not really. But it happens even without these reports - it's called word of mouth. But forums and other reports do make a difference in angler traffic, esp in the spring during walleye, white, crappie runs. I'm throwing this out for discussion. I don't think any minds will be turned as to what anyone believes... I'm not trying to do that. Just starting a discussion- an interesting one- that will bring some of you out of hiding to voice your opinion.
  10. http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS02/601190356 Branson's Bass Pro breaks ground for show and for real Nina Rao News-Leader BRANSON — The ground was ceremonially broken Wednesday afternoon for a new Bass Pro Shops store at Branson Landing. But the ground was actually broken Monday when concrete footings were dropped deep into the earth — an indication that delay is not an option as Branson Landing hurtles toward a summer opening. "This is a little bit of dirt for display purposes," said Bass Pro spokesman Martin Mac Donald as he pointed to a pile with shovels sticking from it where dignitaries and officials had tossed some pre-loosened earth around. Then, Mac Donald pointed to mechanical dirt-moving equipment and the still-wet concrete moorings and said, "This is for real." Branson Landing's 47,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops is scheduled to open in June. Among its features will be a marina where customers can test-drive boats, opportunities for guided fishing tours and an 11,200-square-foot floating restaurant called White River Fish Company. Branson Landing as a whole is scheduled to open earlier than the Bass Pro Shops store, on May 26. By then, Branson Landing developer Rick Huffman said he expects about 75 percent of the businesses to open. Looking at the walls and passageways rising among the scaffolding and cranes, that idea seems possible. According to Huffman, it is on track. # In late May, most of the shops and restaurants will open with the remainder opening in a staggered pattern. # By August, almost 200 condominiums, which are part of the development, will be completed. # By September, a boutique Hilton will open in Branson Landing. # In 2007, a larger Hilton that adjoins the Branson Landing property and a convention center owned by the city are slated to open. "It's happening," Huffman said. "The convention center is under construction. The hotel is on its way. It's a $420 million reality."
  11. Some of you have been asking about a gallery... you can post pics here and use this as a gallery. If you have pics you want to post and need them on a server, you can email them to me or use several on-line services (I'll have to research and list them). Examples - This blog has an extra step to post your entry if you start one. After writing and hitting done- or whatever- it will appear in a window box like it's done. There's still one more step--- At the bottom left below the window there's a buttom that says "entry options". Hit it and then hit "publish". Then you're done.
  12. It looks to be down for repairs and upgrades... they have alot of traffic or did. I'm sure alot of guys and gals will be back when it comes up. Sounds like the new owners have a few changes for it. Best wishes.
  13. I wrote Glenn Scott today. He's the guy in charge of the Nixa Sucker Days. I talked to him on the phone and he's excited that there's a forum where all of their sucker grabbin' guys can go and talk about grabbin'. I hope it will generate alot of traffic. I may have to go to Sucker Days this year- sounds like alot of fun.
  14. I don't know about braided line but I do know that most used mono or fluorocarbon or hybrids. The water is very clear most of the time and lighter line is a must when using smaller, slower moving baits. When fishing around trees and brush, you need abrasion resistant line like Trilene XT. I just don't fish big bait on the Rock- I'm sure someone else has an answer.
  15. I've always blamed missing or nubbed fins on being raised in the concrete raceways at the hatchery. Some grow them back and some it takes longer to??? They clip brown fins before releasing some browns each year to identify a year class, alternating between the anal fins and the post fin... the little fin the comes out of the lower back.
  16. You live in Springfield and don't know where the outlet store is??? My my... Hard time giving you. The outlet is just to the south of the main store. I'm watching the Finley forum closely cause I, too, want to fish there this year. Thanks for the report.
  17. Crappie have been reported at 2-4 feet deep on the flats... shallow enough for a fly rod indeed!!
  18. You could use the blog for what you're talking about now... You'd have your own section and could post pics and stories there.
  19. Flying Fish You may want to save this to a file and then play it. It's pretty big just to play. Chris Gebhardt sent it to me. It's pretty crazy.
  20. 7.14 pounds if I remember right. I think I'm now behind a couple of years... not good.
  21. Hey Jamie- did I ever send you the plaques for the traveling trophy?
  22. Well they finally open the tubes last night and this morning. I can't get out and take advantage of it this morning- too many irons in the fire. But from the looks of the TroutCam, the trout are happy they're running it too. They are eating everything that moves it looks like.
  23. First time I've seen the troutcam when the water is running... they are running 4 units at 6 feet. Lots of substance floating off the bottom and the trout are very active.
  24. Each team will be required to DECLARE where they will fish, above Fall Creek or below Fall Creek. Those declaring above in the trophy area, they will not be allowed to weigh in any rainbows "in the slot" - between 12 and 20 inches. Those declaring below Fall Creek are not to go above Fall Creek at anytime during the tournament. This is one of the rules in the contest. It's worked very well up to now.
  25. My ideal favorite is some water, however small a flow it is to 2 units. Jig fishing is excellent. Fly fishing is excellent- both are easily manageable. But I am talking about fishing from a boat. I don't mind 3-4 units but fly fishing becomes alittle tough. Jig fishing- just go with heavier jigs. I'm really missing some generation right now. Winter jig fishing with 2-3 units is lots of fun.
