TU requires chapters to hold a fundraiser annually. They also only pay the local chapters a small percentage of the membership dues paid. That's the only requirements by national. Don't know anything about FFF. But like I said, we could combine 2 organizations- one group of guys. Double the opportunities. TU has nothing like the conclave or sow bug which are great opportunities for members. There an organization close by that's both- isn't it NWArkansas FFF/TU?
-
I'm not pushing TU here- want you to know that. But the reason we started a TU chapter here and not a FFF chapter is because there are higher-ups in MDC that are TU and have helped us with issues here on Taney in the past. BUT, saying that, it doesn't bode well that the chapter has gone nill and not much has been done to help it. I have heard of groups affiliatied with both organizations. I do believe there can be alot accomplished in education from a group like this. And it can be an influence on some issues on Taney but for the most past, MDC does what they want to do regardless what the public says. The limit change is an example. I'm open to whatever.

Another year another Master's winner... Eric and Troy Willis, father/son team from here in Branson trolled their way to victory today, cashing in on the $440 first prize and coveted Master's Traveling Trophy. It was only their second year to fish the event. Troy caught the big brown of the day netting another $110. They trolled below Cooper Creek all day using a variety of Lucky Craft baits. Jerry and JD Dudley, another father/son duo from Fayetteville, Ar, took second, throwing jigs in the Short Creek area. John Hittler and Frank Dielt (bass guy) caught third place fishing downstream and throwing jigs. Youths Hathman and Banover from here in the area took 4th place. They were throwing small crank bait for most of the day. Standing- Willis/Willis - 7.92 big brown 2.84 (20.1 inches) Dudley/Dudley - 7.64 w/ big rainbow 1.44 Hittler/Dielt - 6.68 .98 Hathman/Banover 6.40 1.16 Stockton/Stockton 6.20 .98 Hawkins/Hawkins 6.12 .94 Dishman/Plotner 6.08 1.36 Dwiggins/Wucher 6.06 1.24 Burckhardt/Dwiggins 5.88 1.10 Dishman/Dishman 5.88 .94 Elfrink/Pingleton 5.70 Weldele/Frenzel 5.64 Rasnick/Pitts 5.48 Slagle/Miller 5.32 Biermann/Gust 5.20 Martin/Griesse 5.12 22 teams

2/4/06 - O/A Lake Taneycomo River Clean Up
Phil Lilley replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
You can start out of our place but don't start will after 8 am. I have the RAW tournament that day and that's when they take off. -
Takeoff was at 8 am. Weigh in is at 4 pm. 23 teams with only 3 fishing "up".
-
A few of us started the TU chapter 12-14 years ago. The same guys have lead it for most of those years and got burned out. No one has picked it back up... yet. TU Missouri is talking about merging all the chapters into one- KC, Mid-Mo and Meramec, the Meramec hasn't been active for quite some time. Not sure what that will do- for Branson anyhow. I'd like to start meetings back up but just not right now. I'm part of a very small group that's trying to build a 6.6m YMCA facility right now and my time is taxed too much. But there may be others................

6 lb caught today (released) down below Rockaway Beach. Frank Dielt of St Louis
-
Good fishing today and what a day to be fishing. Bait guys did well from the looks of the cleaning shack at 5:30 pm... and jig fishing was good too, reported by the pre-tourney guys fishing today. Frank Dietl from St Louis caught this 6 lb largemouth bass below Rockaway Beach on a black/gray jig- yes they were trout fishing. They caught quite a few bass in the pound to 2-pound range. Getting some rain... it needs to rain for days to catch up but this is nice. Hope it doesn't rain enough to muddy the water for tomorrow tournament- but if it does- so be it.
-
I wasn't for the increase in fees or the reduction of the limit... but as far as Taney, I'm giving them more time to get numbers and sizes in line with their promises.
-
I could be mistaken on the numbers... it could be 10,000 total. I've heard as many as 15,000 have been stocked but I think MDC has broaded their scope for stocking browns across the state. But there's never been more browns stocked, at least in recent years. You have to remember stocking ratios vs how much a body of water can take. Stocking too many browns, which can't be harvested till they're 20 inches, can deplete the food base, just like MDC did back in the 80's by stocking too many rainbows.
-
4000 brown trout were stocked this month by Shepherd. They averaged about 11 inches. The remainder of the annual stocking will take place in April or May and will add about 2000-6000 more brown trout to Taneycomo.
-
Just talked to James at the hatchery. He said they haven't clipped any rainbow fins in the past 10-15 years. Rainbows that are missing fins lose them in the concrete raceways at the hatchery. Brown fin were clipped several years ago but are not being clipped presently.

Calling Mr. Shaeffer... Mr. Brian Shaeffer...

miracles do happen... What do you do during the daylite hours??? You need to come by. -
Can someone share exactly where Capps is? Also, what kind of access is there and directions to them. Thanks

I just bought 14 mink pelts off ebay and have started to mix mink with antron. Rolan Duffield shared a mixture with me he uses when tying scuds that's one of the deadliest flies on the lake next to "peppy".
-
I have alot of custom mixed colors of Needleoft Yarn I sell in the shop and tie with myself. Brad Wright uses it in his scuds and sculpins. You can get it at WalMart and Hobby Lobby but it's hard to find some colors now. I stocked piled a bunch of it last summer.

I'm watching the troutcam monitor- I dropped a black zebra down with a bell wieght below it to hold it down- just dropping a zebra didn't work cause the trout kept taking it out of the camera's view. It's getting eatened 6-10 times per minute- one trout took it 4 times in a row before leaving it. Most are taking the midg hard- all the way in the mouth. funny thing they are hitting the bell weight too and when they do it moves the fly and that triggers alot of attention to the fly. I also have a jig jead with some colored yarn. they are taking it but not all the way in the wouth. The chubs like the jig better. What's interesting is how they are taking the jig- some aren't even taking it all the way in their mouths but beating it with their lips. No wonder we hook trout outside the mouth so often. Sorry if there is alot of errors in my typing- I can't keep my eye off the screen. I need to record this

Fishing Forums... Pro & Con
Phil Lilley replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
If the reports, say this spring's crappie reports, are spread out more- the reports wouldn't hurt particiluar areas like just reporting on one area, like Long Creek. Before, you only read my reports and reports others may have emailed in to me. Now the forum gives other easier opportunity to report on many other areas where I'm sure crappie and other species of fish are. My hope is for education more than reporting a good mud flat or riffle although a head's up is always nice. -

No generation- just foot traffic on the dock and boats going by. I hung a 1/32nd oz jig in front of the camera. Line- 4 lb green trilene Jig- Marabou sculpin, orange head The hook has been cut before the bend- no way for the trout to be hooked. Because the water's been running at night, the water has cleared a bunch. And there's some big, fat rainbows under there today- just appeared.

Forsythian- nice to see you here. Brian doesn't get up till midafternoon... he'll be here soon. Phil -
I've been having discussions with a couple of friends (really- this has been ongoing for quite awhile) about what fishing reports on the internet does to reported fishing "holes". Last spring, I reported crappie were excellent at Long Creek. We saw lots and lots of people fishing Long Creek after the reports were given. I reported walleye and whites were excellent a couple of years ago at a certain spot on Bull Shoals- at night- and the next night there were dozens of anglers in thaa spot (my fishing buddy who told me about the spot still hasn't forgiven me yet ) My point - I know there's alot of guys on this forum, registered or not, who won't share good spots or at least posting timely reports (delaying a day, two or more) so's not to have their good fishing spot overrun. So what do we do? I've reporting on fishing for 8 years on the internet. 90% of the time I report exactly what I hear or see, not holding back any info from the public. The other 10% is info I am asked not to report- or- areas used by guides who would KILL me if I devulged their spots, esp on Table Rock, bass humps and points that are used by them on trips and even tournaments. Do we like fishing in crowded coves or rivers bends? Not really. But it happens even without these reports - it's called word of mouth. But forums and other reports do make a difference in angler traffic, esp in the spring during walleye, white, crappie runs. I'm throwing this out for discussion. I don't think any minds will be turned as to what anyone believes... I'm not trying to do that. Just starting a discussion- an interesting one- that will bring some of you out of hiding to voice your opinion.

http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS02/601190356 Branson's Bass Pro breaks ground for show and for real Nina Rao News-Leader BRANSON — The ground was ceremonially broken Wednesday afternoon for a new Bass Pro Shops store at Branson Landing. But the ground was actually broken Monday when concrete footings were dropped deep into the earth — an indication that delay is not an option as Branson Landing hurtles toward a summer opening. "This is a little bit of dirt for display purposes," said Bass Pro spokesman Martin Mac Donald as he pointed to a pile with shovels sticking from it where dignitaries and officials had tossed some pre-loosened earth around. Then, Mac Donald pointed to mechanical dirt-moving equipment and the still-wet concrete moorings and said, "This is for real." Branson Landing's 47,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops is scheduled to open in June. Among its features will be a marina where customers can test-drive boats, opportunities for guided fishing tours and an 11,200-square-foot floating restaurant called White River Fish Company. Branson Landing as a whole is scheduled to open earlier than the Bass Pro Shops store, on May 26. By then, Branson Landing developer Rick Huffman said he expects about 75 percent of the businesses to open. Looking at the walls and passageways rising among the scaffolding and cranes, that idea seems possible. According to Huffman, it is on track. # In late May, most of the shops and restaurants will open with the remainder opening in a staggered pattern. # By August, almost 200 condominiums, which are part of the development, will be completed. # By September, a boutique Hilton will open in Branson Landing. # In 2007, a larger Hilton that adjoins the Branson Landing property and a convention center owned by the city are slated to open. "It's happening," Huffman said. "The convention center is under construction. The hotel is on its way. It's a $420 million reality."
