Handling- not sure if you can help it if you handle their bellies at all. And you're right about the eggs- they won't survive either way. Eggs - they're legal. Jimmy T uses a red bead with white yarn material tied around it, sluffing off like it's milking. Up in Michigan they're called a nuke egg. He calls them real eggs or something like that. The wind is really howling today- good day to strip a wooly I think. I may brave the cold and head up later this afternoon.

I want to build a new section on RR for OA- take some pics, gather information and do alittle fishing. Tim, I hope you're going to to be around. I want to get your story and pics of your shop. Those are my "plans" and hopefully nothing will happen to change them... but with the resort you never know.

Jimmy - I got a good story for you. I've told this on a forum before but not sure which one and it's been along time ago. I was fishing with a friend below BS Dam one day in the winter when a couple of guys came down from the parking lots and started chunking big spoons at the browns holding in the riffles. This was back in the late 80's best I can remember. I said something to them after the second brown was put on a stringer, both foul hooked in the back. They cursed and threatened me so I backed off. We left quickly and headed to the guard shack at the entrance of the park. There we talked to a gal who said she'd make a call. By the time we got back to the parking lot, a sheriff's car was pulling up behind us... then another. Then a park ranger, then a conservation agent. They had an army down there!! I don't have to mention I was impressed.. and envious. The agent and a couple of officers walked down the bank and motioned the guys to come over with their fish. They each had 6 big browns by then... and were still fishing. The agent inspected the trout and found gapeing holes in their backs and fins. He took the fish, wrote them 2 tickets each for snapping trout and for over limit (I think) because they were still snagging when they had their limit.

There's going to be long-term psychological damage from these kids being exposed to the material that PETA puts in front of them on a regular basis," Martosko said. But, Friedrich countered, "They can certainly find stuff that is more in your face on the Internet, more in your face on Saturday morning cartoons. We don't need to shelter our kids quite that much." The pamphlet follows a previous one that painted Mom as a "chicken killer." PETA claims its only goal is to reduce meat consumption by changing children's eating habits. Critics insist alienating children from their parents isn't in anyone's best interests — human or animal.

That should get some attention- money. This is a short entry cause it's late and I still have to do the cash drawer at the office before turning in but I thought I'd warn you... Windy, rainy, Sunday night- sounds like the perfect night to venture out to the dam and do some night fishing. Wrong! True I didn't stay for hours and I was there while the water was dropping out from a slow one unit but I didn't want to beat a dead horse. Fished below #2 stripping a couple of types of streamers, five colors of woolies, a sulpin and a muddler. I got two "nudges" on the muddler and one brown hooked in the tail with the sculpin. Can't say I don't report when it's bad fishing now can you! Oh yea- it hasn't been good the last 3 reports. I'm getting into a rhythm...

Funny- well more than half haven't posted anything... but I'm not complaining. At least I know they're reading it. After the next newsletter, we should see a jump in useage.

WHITE RIVER BASIN, ARKANSAS- (a) MINIMUM FLOWS-(1) IN GENERAL- The Secretary is authorized and directed to implement alternatives BS-3 and NF-7, as described in the White River Minimum Flows Reallocation Study Report, Arkansas and Missouri, dated July 2004. (2) COST SHARING AND ALLOCATION- Reallocation of storage and planning, design and construction of White River Minimum Flows project facilities shall be considered fish and wildlife enhancement that provides national benefits and shall be a Federal expense in accordance with section 906(e) of the Water Resources Development Act of 1986 (33 U.S.C. 2283(e)). The non-Federal interests shall provide relocations or modifications to public and private lakeside facilities at Bull Shoals Lake and Norfork Lake to allow reasonable continued use of the facilities with the storage reallocation as determined by the Secretary in consultation with the non-Federal interests. Operations and maintenance costs of the White River Minimum Flows project facilities shall be 100 percent Federal. All Federal costs for the White River Minimum Flows project shall be considered non-reimbursable. (3) IMPACTS ON NON-FEDERAL PROJECT- The Administrator of Southwestern Power Administration, in consultation with the project licensee and the relevant state public utility commissions, shall determine any impacts on electric energy and capacity generated at Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Project No. 2221 caused by the storage reallocation at Bull Shoals Lake, based on data and recommendations provided by the relevant state public utility commissions. The licensee of Project No. 2221 shall be fully compensated by the Corps of Engineers for those impacts on the basis of the present value of the estimated future lifetime replacement costs of the electrical energy and capacity at the time of implementation of the White River Minimum Flows project. Such costs shall be included in the costs of implementing the White River Minimum Flows project and allocated in accordance with subsection (a)(2) above. (4) OFFSET- In carrying out this subsection, losses to the Federal hydropower purpose of the Bull Shoals and Norfork Projects shall be offset by a reduction in the costs allocated to the Federal hydropower purpose. Such reduction shall be determined by the Administrator of the Southwestern Power Administration on the basis of the present value of the estimated future lifetime replacement cost of the electrical energy and capacity at the time of implementation of the White River Minimum Flows project. Vince and I went fishing late this afternoon... needed to work off some turkey. We drove to the dam and waded in on the north side at Rocking Chair. Not sure why we chose that area again- it wasn't nice to us the last 3 times we've gone there. And it wasn't nice tonight either. I caught a couple of a #18 brassie soft hackle right off- wind was blowing upstream, not bad. Good chop on the water but no midges until closer to dark. There's a bunch of creek chubs schooling up there- Vince caught several on a zebra midge but no trout. We didn't do well till almost dark- Vince moved out to the open water in the middle, slow current, dead drifted a #20 ginger scud 4 feet deep (on the bottom) and caught 6-8 rainbows. I was too lazy to tie on new leader to fish deeper so I caught one. Poacher story- 3 men and 2 small boys were fishing down from us when we arrived. From the looks of how there were fishing (casting and no retreiving) they were bait fishing. But I didn't see them catch any trout so I left them alone... until one of them caught a fish. I think they released it- couldn't tell- but it wasn't quite 4 o'clock so I tried to call Quinton (agent) on his cell- no answer. So I called the hatchery and talked to Bryan Putman, told him what I saw but as I talked, one by one they disappeared up the hill into the woods. I told Bryan to hold off coming down- I'd call him back if they came back or stayed. They didn't - the last guy left with the boys- all the while gazing at me. After they left, I fished my way down to where they were and found a cooler up in the grass with one rainbow in it (alive) and a container of worms. Also found a package of 2/0 gold hooks on the bank which one of them had dropped. Vince snagged a bunch of line (big dia.) with an egg weight and a gold 2/0 hook on one end- theirs. They knew the drill- man on phone meant it was time to leave with the bait and trout.

The hatchery will not- Dewey Short Visitor's Center is where you want to ask for info- above the dam on Table Rock. Best bet is to email Little Rock Corp- that's where they will ultimately send you.

Rod- all depends on your application.. and your taste. If you're starting out and only fishing for trout, a 4 wt would be good, 9 ft. A 5 wt would also be fine but stay with a 9 ft unless you're fishing places that are confined (trees and such), then to to something shorter (8' or 8'6"). If you're fishing for trout and bass, you may go to a 6 wt. Leader - tappered, and again it depends on what you do most... and perference. I like long leaders (12') but some people don't like to throw long leader because they have a hard time getting the fly to turn over. I throw alot of soft hackles and cracklebacks (stripping flies) and I think the long leaders get me more strikes. If you're dead drifting scuds mainly, use shorter leaders (9'). Size - I use 3x, 4x, 5x and tie my tippet to that. I don't use the smaller size simply because if I did I'd have to cut a bunch off before I tied my first tippet piece on. As a rule, tippet labeled 6x is really smaller- I don't take any chances- I cut off a foot before tying any tippet onto the leader. So I use the longer leaders (10', 12'). Say I use a 12', 4x tippet. I cut off a foot and add 18 inches of 5x tippet. this becomes my base. If I break off or use most if not all of the tippet tied onto the 5x, I retied on the 5x, not the leader thus not using the tapered leader. Tippet - depends on application. Water clarity, water speed and flies used plays a big part in what I use for tippet. Remember, flourocarbon sinks fast and monofilament sinks slow. You don't want to use fc on dry flies. If you're using small wet flies you want to sink alittle quicker, use fc. I could go on but this could become an article real quick. Hope it helps.

They have never been stocked in Taney so I don't think there are that many... but you never know. You hear of a few caught each year.

Vince told me he went over to Cricket Creek and fished for crappie on Monday. We went upstream in Long and fished the flat points and the trees with jigs. Caught 4 crappie- all keepers. No pattern- caught them 8 to 20 feet deep. Pretty windy so is was tough to feel the strikes. Did also catch a couple of small blacks. Anyone else been out???

Ask God to direct you to a church and get involved... but beware of this- don't put your faith in people-- there are great people of God in churches and there are bad people in churches. Just be careful.
