We were looking at rain jackets back in September for my son and I's Alaska trip. Was looking at Reddington's Sonic Jackets... and somehow I ordered 2. They just came in this week, to our surprise. We could send them back or... offer them to our OAF friends. XL and 2XL - one each. Selling them at cost --- $180 each, plus shipping. http://www.redington.com/fly-fishing-apparel/sonic-pro-jacket

Email from Corps: Tailwater D.O. Improving

In the fall each year, the Corp puts limits on how much water they can run through the turbines because of low DO. They can keep the DO at 4 ppm (the lowest they can go by their standards) by injecting liquid O2 into the water as it goes through the turbines and by opening vents in the turbine chamber allowing the water to slosh around with the air. When the DO is high enough, they will shut the vents till next fall. As Table Rock's water turns over and mixes, which sometimes happens quickly but this year it's happening gradually, the Corp starts to lift the restriction that have on generation. Right now they're not running at full capacity because the DO isn't up over 6 ppm. When it reaches 6 ppm, which shouldn't be long seeing it's 10 degrees outside, then they will lift all restrictions and run water at 4 units full. This all has nothing to do with their generation schedule though. It's not unusual for them to run water fairly hard early and late in the day on cold days - power demand. What is kinda unusual is them running 35-50 megawatts all day but that's been a pattern all year. -
Subject: Change in recommended maximum generation ratesThe cold spell has greatly aided in the recovery of all the lakes. Some short term heavy generation test have shown that tailwater D.O. levels remain well above 4 ppm at Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Norfork. The recommended maximum generation rates at all 3 are now 100% nameplate, or 50Mw per unit at TR, 40Mw units 1-4 and 45Mw units 5-8 at BS, and 40 Mw per unit at Norfork. The next step is closing the vents whenever the D.O. levels remain above 6 ppm. That could happen in another week or less. Steve Bays

You guys throwing stick baits?
-
Don't have to exclusively fish jigs... it just started as a jig fishing event by people who like to throw jigs. It would be fun to expand on the group.
-
No. They said they were fishing Wildcat to Cotter

James Johnson of Baldwin, MI, a good friend of mine, is fishing on the White this week with friends. They're throwing big streamers and finding some browns.

Got out for a short drift across the lake. Trout were active hitting a 1/16th ounce jig. We have a guest who has rented a jon boat for 2 hours each day this week and caught his limit plus every day. He's going up lake not quite to Trout Hollow and drifting in the slow current (3,300 cfs, 704.3 feet lake level) with rainbow Powerbait, paste. I got out yesterday and fished from the dam down past Lookout and did well below Lookout, not so good above. Best was a 1/16th ounce black jig working against the bluff bank. Caught a bunch of rainbows, most were small but did have a couple pushing 17-18 inches. No browns.

We'd love to have you guys.

It could be down in NW Arkansas... that would take a a lot of fishing time away!

Yea- I don't expect a big turnout, if any, because of the late notice and close to the holidays... we all are very busy.

I'm going to throw this out there and see where it goes. The weekend of December 17-18 is pretty open for us this year, which is normal. So here's what I'm thinking: Lodging: $15 per person per night. Boats: $10 per day (double occupancy) At least 2 persons to a boat. *** If someone can come and can't swing this rate, let me know and I'll make exceptions. I'm not doing this to fill rooms... I am trying to cover costs though. #22 is open and I will hold it. It has one big room for gathering plus 3 beds in the back. Will put at least 2 people in that room. I have some of the bigger rooms open. I'd like to fill them with, say, 1 person per bedroom unless a couple of people come together and want to be in the same room. Or course if we have couples, we'll put them in a separate unit unless they want to be in a bigger units with the rest. The idea is to stay together and get to know other fellow OAF'ers like what we do on the White River. This is not a special for those who just want to come and fish and stay to themselves. Here's the kicker... at this late notice, I don't expect this to be as organized as our White River Jigfest, nor as successful. But that's ok... it's getting it started that's important. The other thing is that I have been told that I can't COOK or may be even FISH that weekend. Our daughter is moving back to Branson with family from Arkansas and we're going to be busy helping them move. I'm sure I'll be here for part if not all the weekend but at this point I don't know exactly. I'd like to handle reservations through the forum and not through the office... they tend to get confused when I put one of these on. We'll see how this goes. May only have a handful of anglers but it'll be fun regardless.

There was some talk that the Riley's didn't own the house we stayed in but manage it... ownership/management may be different next year. I'm interested in starting another Jigfest here on Taney. I don't want to compete with this one because I want to go to BOTH. December weekends are the only ones I can offer some big discounts for lodging since I'm booked all other weekends throughout the year. So might have them a week or two apart. I don't expect the same guys to go to both either... but they could. I like the house we stayed in. They could upgrade the "cots" though. They're pretty tough to sleep on. The trundle I slept on was ok but not for a bigger person.

turning over. Shane and Clint sent me an email the other day and said they were getting over 4 ppm of O2 into the hatchery now. Great news!
