Fishing Report Sunday and Monday
Phil Lilley replied to Micheal Kyle's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Not too bad today. Some caught off the dock and more out in the boats. From the looks of midging trout, there's quite a few fish above Short Creek through Fall Creek this evening. I headed up and fished zebras again from 4:30 till dark and caught a dozen. This time of year it's usually a crap shoot but generally it's good over the Thanksgiving holiday. Lots of small rainbows though- about half of what I caught was less than 10 inches and the other half between 10-12 inches. Babler reported he did good down at the island by the bridges yesterday and today fishing in the morning. Both fishing zebras under a float and using night crawlers. He said he had some rainbows in the 16 inch range on yesterday's trip. Had one brown that pushed 20 inches. -

Flyfishing above FC is good, not really below FC. You can put in at Cooper Creek and motor 2 miles to Fall Creek and get to Lookout without any issues IF you know the channel. Midges are doing pretty good up there. I boated my daughter and son in law up there today- boat ride- but I did take the fly rod and caught a rainbow first cast on a soft hackle. Rainbows were midging along the bank and I targeted one and he struck. Not many boats out- and there won't be hardly any Monday. -
I reposted- it's in the first post at the top. Jan 13, 07

Saturday, January 13, 2007 We are going to offer a free rod building / fly tying class featuring Rolan Duffield. Rolan is retired from the Hallmark Company, KC. He has fly fished Taneycomo since the 60's so you know he can tie a great scud. He has also been building his own fly rods for many years. We've had some requests for a rod building class on the forum. Hopefully we'll have a good turnout. Rod Building Class will be held from 11 am to 2 pm in unit #1 at Lilleys' Landing. No materials required. Rolan will go over the basics- how to choose the right blank, hardware and materials, and what to look for when starting. He may add a comment or two to this topic. Of course, one can't build a rod in a day so we won't be actually building any rods. The Fly Tying Class will be held from 7 to 9 pm that evening in unit #1. Rolan will tie his favorite - the Peppy Scud. I can personally attest to the hundreds if not thousands of trout he's caught on this fly over the years. It's not a fly-by-night pattern. All classes are free, first-come. We will limit each class to 8 people. If you're from out of town, see http://lilleyslanding.com for lodging. Note- we will fill up for this weekend so advanced reservations are encouraged.

While they last... I had our graphic designer created a bumper sticker for ozarkanglers.com. For those who do stickers, send me a PM with your name and address and I'll mail one out to you. I offered it to our most active posters on the forum already... I have about 50 left. One cool thing that one member suggested- there's a space at the bottom left where one can write their screen name. Thanks for spreading the word!

Thinking about running Lunds on the Naknek River next summer. Any thoughts? I know they are pricey but are they worth the $$$?

If you look at members, change to 50, desending and change order of 'date joined', you'll now see who's joined and who's not. Interesting.

These are email addresses from some of our beloved spammers. Now I recommend that no one email these guys directly or else they could do something with your email that you wouldn't want. But if you know of any newsletters or other automatic services that these guys might be interested in, sign them up! loginb@bestfreemall.info 200.96.119.124 darlerspt@web.de 66.235.184.173 Side note - it seems like it's working. I have had 12 spammers sign up but didn't finish the email part of validating. Nice.

Ahhhh..... Leonard- Chiefs won. -
Hey Don- how did you do today?

This should slow down the spammers on the forum. It adds a step in registering for everyone BUT it would add several more steps for a spammer. He would have to enter a valid email address, retrieve his validation off his email account and then go into my controls and delete his email address. I'm betting they won't take the time. What if they don't delete their email address?? I'll get it, post it on the forum and let everyone use it to sign up for everything under the sun. They'll get a taste of REAL spamming.

Tradition. I'm not a diehard NFL fan but I do like to watch the Cowboys and Chiefs. Mom doesn't like it but we do watch some football on Thanksgiving day. But is this a sign of changing times? Will we have to subscribe to Dish to watch football in the future? Someone called the office yesterday and asked where he could watch the game today. I said we have cable and will get the games. He said the Chief's game was only on NFL Network and I didn't believe him. Who would do such a thing!!?? I checked the paper and he was right. I guess he might be out of luck- along with a bunch of other people today.

This is a question by a new client and answer by Jim Johnson that I think is an interesting read... Client- One question you probably get often is the bears. Do you ever feel like you are in danager. I can't imagine fishing a small stream to have a brown bear come out of the woods 40 feet away. Do the guides carry a firearm? What can you expect? Jim- I would be crazy not to feel a little threatened by the bears - they are obviously large and potentialy dangerous. Having said that, we are careful to make sure we don't surprise them, we have a training session for all of our guests on the first day on how to deal with them and when we visit Brooks, the rangers give a mandatory session on bears as well. All in all, I think you will feel confident enough to deal with the situation, should it arise. When we go into the Park, we stay nearby at all times, and we watch for bears approaching the area. We issue every guest a can of Bear Spray, which is very effective at close range, and we also carry a can ourselves. We have never had to use the spray, but it is comforting to know that we have it, just in case. During the summer salmon season, the bears are fat and happy and have all of the fish that they can eat. They pretty much ignore us completely, even when they are very close. If you are extremely worried about bears, the time to go to Alaska is in June, when there are few bears along the rivers. They really fill in along the streams when the salmon begin spawning and dying, which doesn't start until mid-July. In late June, about the only place we'll see many bears is at and below the falls at the Brooks River, and even that isn't until the last few days of June. My son is 13 and my daughter is 12. They fished with us all over the area - my son was out every day with us - and they never felt threatened by the bears at all. My personal opinion is that the bears are as important to the unique experience of the area as the fishing is, and I think that virtually everyone that has fished with us agrees with that statement. The Naknek itself is a much larger river, with open and large gravel bars. There, bears will not be an issue, and that's where we fish most of the days. If someone was truly worried about the bears, they could opt out of the trips to Brooks, Idavain and/or Margot Creek, and spend the extra days fishing the Naknek without bear concerns at all. The July 28 - August 4 spot is now full.

Fishing Report Sunday and Monday
Phil Lilley replied to Micheal Kyle's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Again, I felt like alittle fish for dinner. Boated (again) to Fall Creek and had no problem catching 4 nice rainbows. Fished from 4:30 - 5:20 and caught 15 rainbows, mostly on a #16 black zebra under a small palso indicator 18 inches deep. They were midging all over the place. Tied on a #18 red soft hackle the last 10 minutes and caught 3 more. Couldn't do anything wrong. -
Not bad. Below the dam I'm not sure but on the lake- nice.
