My girlfriend and I are driving up to the state park to camp this weekend from Springfield. Any tips for species to target or what to expect up there? What are the regulations I should know about....getting conflicted info for black bass when I try to look them up?

I go up to Fellows a lot because I live pretty close but getting fish is hit or miss there. If you have a boat and can get to deeper water you'll have way better luck. It's pretty quiet right now, I'd wait til the water gets warmer.

First time posting here and my first time on the James. I pulled over on the bridge south of Northview at around 1:30. Sky was pretty much overcast and it was fairly windy. I caught some 10-12.5" smallmouth on a texas rigged senko and a watermelon roostertail. A few hard hits on a spinner by something white, I don't know if it was crappie or white bass. Then 2 grass carp and a channel catfish on dough balls. Nothing big but it sure beats getting skunked at Fellows.
