  1. No fish Correct. Thankfully the water and air were not colder. There were some places on Lake Springfield that still had ice on them. It could have been a lot worse!
  2. Tuesday I got all excited about the warm weather and took my yak out on Lake Springfield and flipped it over. Thankfully I made it out ok (did it in really shallow water) and was able to make it back to shore in the yak. Hopefully someone else can learn from my mistakes. If it's windy, don't go out on a kayak. Don't try and anchor when it's windy. Use quality ziploc bags and triple bag electronics or use a dry bag. Don't get so excited that you forget common sense. A fish is not worth dying over.
  3. Lol, thanks Flysmallie. Appreciate you looking into it for me. My wife and I were looking at a house not too far away from there and I saw that lake on the map and thought man that would be perfect. The lake didn't pan out and the house wasn't big enough and needed way more work than we were willing to put into it so it all worked out.
  4. Thanks navery. Appreciate it.
  5. I seriously doubt it. I've fished at Lake Springfield/James River and have really never seen any enforcement. Especially if you're not on Lake Springfield proper.
  6. Just north of Avalon Park if that helps. Go north on Hwy H from Avalon Park and then continue north on Fm Rd 167.
  7. Anybody ever heard of or fished at Rainbow Lake? According to Google maps it's located between McDaniel and Fellows and maybe a couple miles(?) north off of N Fm Rd 167. Is it public fishing or private property? According to hook and bullets.com there is trout there as well. I highly doubt there is trout there but I'm sure I could be wrong.
  8. Holy Cow! You did really good. I now know there are still some good bass in there. Thanks for posting.
  9. Hang in there JimH. Are you fishing from the bank or a boat? I'm just a newbie but the only fish I've caught from Lake Springfield have been from the bank or one of the islands below the dam. You might try there.
  10. Appreciate the encouragement MObassin95. I'll just keep experimenting with different lures and maybe try a few different locations next time. Hopefully we both have better luck next time!
  11. Went out Tuesday on L Springfield from around 10am to 1pm. Little bit of a breeze and some hazy clouds but didn't catch any fish, not even a bite. Beautiful weather and enjoyed the day though. Tried swimbait, t-rigged worm, crankbait. Was over by the rocks east of the power station. Saw fish surfacing there but nothing was taking my bait. I will keep trying though. I know it would help a lot to go at sunrise or sunset but that time is when I'm able to go right now.
  12. Is the Hwy 60 bridge area a good access area? I've never tried it.
  13. I purchased a vest very similar to this one only it doesn't have the pocket/storage stuff on the front. I later went to Surplus City in Springfield and got an ammo pouch and another small pouch to put on the front of it for storage. Probably didn't save that much money doing it that way but just another way to skin a cat. The vest works pretty good though although it's the first one I've owned so I don't have much comparison. I use it on a kayak.
  14. Nice post and beautiful pics!
  15. Awesome. Thank you MObassin95 for the tips. I'll give that stuff a try.
  16. Nice bass!
  17. I just started getting into fishing last spring and so I don't have much experience. I have a kayak now and am able to go between 9:30 and 1:00 during the day on some of my days off. I have gone to Lake Springfield so far but am open to going to Fellows. Any advice or tips on those locations and what lures/techniques to use during that time of day would be greatly appreciated. Trying for bass mainly, not so much catfish. I really enjoy the forum. Thanks. the new guy
