Honest words there. Al it appears we may have caught some of the same fish before by chance. At least in the same eddys and rock drops.
-
If you get the chance to go hope you land a big one. Access on creeks and rivers is getting scarce. Cherish it while we can.
-
They are right no access there. We have a private access way upstream from there and use it often, but they are not easy to come by. Cherokee Landing will put you in upstream from their place. Decent float.
-
Almost all of our fish was on crankbaits. They are starting to spread out I believe. Was catching them in places wouldn’t have expected to. I think water temp was 52 Saturday.

For some reason won’t let me load anymore pics. Keeps saying file was too large and skipped.
-
Had a great day on the river with a good friend yesterday. Spent a couple hours cleaning out log jams then fished until the rain. 95% of the fish came from crankbaits fished fast and a couple on shakey heads. Threw a jerkbait for awhile and caught some crappie and goggle eye.
-
I haven’t had much luck fishing them in creeks either.
-
I’m wondering too. I considered the duo lock type. Or the speed clips. Was always concerned with altering the action of the lure.
-
Great advice. Do y’all tie straight to the lure or use a clip? I use polomar knots 99% of the time and they are down right aggravating on cranks and jerkbaits but was worried how a clip might effect performance?
-
I thought about the pool. Mine is above ground and couldn’t dare risk the liner.
-
Not sure if I’m invading privacy or not. How often do y’all use jerkbaits when fishing smaller streams. I have a huge assortment of jerkbaits and can’t remember which are shallow suspending...is there a way to find out without actually fishing them?
-
All good friend. There’s 2 low water bridges in that area. One is the old number 10 bridge to the dyke which is washed out and actually where I used to live. The other is the Dickinson bridge which is fairly bigger and we used to put in at the gravel bar bc of permission from the owners. I certainly wouldn’t advise ppl to run that area bc it is dangerous but definitely doable. It’s amaz what a jet can do.

Most docks and reservoirs are not situated in a few inches of water. I don’t understand how there’s more wake damage in shallow narrow water? Big high speed boats. The 16 footer I ran might have done 30 down river wide open. Floatable streams? Is there a public access to put into floating between Cherokee landing or Washington state park? I reckon a person could put in and float to the park from Cherokee but that’s a long haul. I’m just trying to understand the jabs I took. We are not in shortage of floatable streams without engine noise. Bootleg all the way to Cherokee landing, mineral fork, fourche, mill creek to name a few. The stretch I lived on hardly ever had any visitors and I was on it once a week minimum and don’t recall disrupting really anyone. Wakes need depth and width to build. Just bc it’s your opinion don’t make it correct nor does mine. I just choose not to openly criticize someone for doing something that’s entirely legal especially if I don’t have a legit reason for why it’s wrong.

Not to beat a dead horse but I am curious Al.... how much of a wake do you really send in shallow narrow water? If memory serves me right it seems like I’ve always noticed a lot bigger wakes where the river widens and deepens a bit. You know where they have a chance to build. If that’s true I would think a person is causing more damage in the bigger parts of a river. Enlighten me please for I’m misinformed.

Thanks pard. I must have missed the purpose of a jet boat. Back to the original question. I know this river like the back of my hand from council bluff to Merrill horse and fish it A LOT. I would assume if you have any experience running a jet you’ll be fine. From browns ford down at least.
-
What do you mean that’s kinda lame. Am I seriously going to be ridiculed because of running a shallow water boat in shallow water. Isn’t that the purpose of a jet. I take it either of you have never went through a narrow shallow spot in a river sending devastating wakes. If you have shame on you for throwing rocks in a glass house. Mind blowing.
-
If you’re talking about the bridge by tiff/Blackwell around the Dickinson farms. We just duck and go under it. I used to live on the river right above there. Believe it or not it gets quite a bit of jet boat use. No different then the guys running the upper meremac or any other smaller river. Understand the concern but I have sold my jet regretfully and was looking at buying a new one but figured I’d try kayaking for a bit.

We run all the way to Cherokee landing in jets up until the low waters of summer. Pretty easy running from Browns ford down river. Around Washington state park and upriver It takes some experience in a boat.
-
Mountain curs and I have a couple black mouth curs. I don’t usually take them anywhere unless it’s hunting on count they like to stay gone. Lol. Wouldn’t be an enjoyable fishing trip.
-
Thanks. If I like it I will be motivated to upgrade. I raise hunting dogs which is my biggest hobby, but in the summer when it’s too hot to chase hogs I start fishing for smallmouth. Mainly iron and Washington counties. Small rivers and creeks. Wanted a kayak just to hold more gear and add a little comfort.
-
It might not last one trip. I’ve never fished out of a kayak so I wasn’t going to spend 1000 on something I may not even like. I don’t get to fish often and am always wading or in a jet. Was figuring a kayak would be nice on the small creeks and rivers I normally wade but can pack a lunch and more gear than just wading. What makes a $1000 worth the difference?
-
I just purchased a SOT fishing kayak. Was looking at dicks sporting goods they had one for about 500 +. The fella actually told me it’s half priced at Walmart. Sure enough it was. It’s a lifetime tamarack. Don’t know how well it works but excited to try it out. If I don’t like the kayak experience I’m only out 250.
-
I’m about 5’8”-5’9”. 150 pounds. I was looking at 10ft bc of the streams I plan to go I usually wade. Smaller rivers and creeks mostly. Any pros and cons between the 2. I was just seeing what’s out there before buying new.
-
Anyone have a fishing kayak for sale fairly cheap. Preferably SOT. Never done it before but am wanting to try a kayak. Don’t want to spend a lot in case it isn’t as enjoyable as I hope it is.
