  1. The blues have been on fire this summer below Truman. Anyone tried it below Bagnell lately? There ought to be some fish down there now.
  2. Well I decided to play it safe since it was just the wife and I. Went to the Gasconade. Boat riding was good, fishing no good. Water still very stained from the rain last week.
  3. This summer has been crap for boat riding on the rivers for sure. Wife likes the Niangua and was hoping this would be the weekend for it. Maybe I'll take her to Long Branch instead. lol
  4. Gasconade is chocolate milk right now.
  5. The wife is needing some river time to relax and unwind, and I wouldn't mind doing a bit of fishing. Would prefer to avoid the flotillas of drunken canoeists to the extent possible. Running a 20' Alweld with a jet so getting around isn't an issue. River gauge says the water should be decent for floating and swimming. Recommendations appreciated...
  6. We set 30 bank poles and one vertical trotline last weekend not far downstream from the I-70 bridge west of Columbia. Caught one 12lb. blue (pre-spawn female) and a 4lb flathead. Water conditions aren't the best for setlines right now. Every time a towboat pushes through the wakes pull a mountain of deadwood into the water. Something big hung on the trotline and destroyed it. Water levels had finally dropped below flood stage, but weekend rains caused a 1.5ft rise. It's likely to be November before the wing dams above water again. And some dirty little thief helped himself to three of my 12ft bank poles.
  7. Fishing in the slough holes should be decent decent for awhile after the river finally goes down. They're getting a good recharge this summer.
  8. I remove both hooks from the wee craw. Then use a larger size (4 or 6 can't remember it's been awhile since I had to buy new ones) Excaliber rotating treble on the rear eye only. All those fish you used to miss on that bait, you won't miss them anymore.
