  1. Have fun, wish I was going down there this weekend, have to wait till next weekend though. Let us know how you do.
  2. Where is he Metal and Mecury coming from? Have never heard that before, sad story as many lakes and rivers are being affected by these subtances.
  3. Just wondered what all of you thought cost wise of what I would be looking at to get the basics to start Fly Tying? I have always wanted to learn, but haven't researched it to much, but am really thinking about taking it up. I hear it's a great hobby and everytime I pick up a fly, it's hard to imagine where to even start. Looks tough anyway, just wondered what pointers you could maybe give or any info would be great. Thanks
  4. You would sure think there is?
  5. Yeah, this is kind of what I figured. Looks like some good camping areas there. Pretty excited about fishing Roaring River. We might just fish Taney both days, too early to tell? Anyway we go I know will be a great time.
  6. From what I have heard they were started by people using them as bait and spreading them around area lakes and rivers. They just have had explosive growth that many lakes actually are having white perch tournaments to try and thin them out. They look exactly like a white bass, but are just smaller. I read an article in the Wichita Eagle about officials netting walleye this year and taking their eggs and incubating them until they are 1-2 inches long due to the fact that the perch are eating their eggs. I have fished out at Lake Cheney just west of Wichita and have put a worm on jig fishing for walleye, and it's like as soon as you get the bait on the bottom, the perch are all over it.
  7. My father and I were talking about coming down, but think we are going to make the trek down there next weekend. Do you camp down there very often. It would be our first time fishing Roaring, usually go to Bennett or Taney. We were going to fish Roaring and then head to Taney the next day. Are their campgrounds usually pretty busy during the weekends? Hope you have a great time, let us know how you do.
  8. Yeah, that is the same thing I thought. Next, they will be trying to sell white perch, or zebra mussels. Both of which, KS lakes are getting explosive growth in about every lake out here.
  9. They will be in our prayers! Sad news for many folks in that area. I have been through a couple and have seen a couple, once you see one, words just can't explain one. You see them on TV all the time, but once you see one live in person it's just unbelievable.
  10. Just wondered if everyone made it through the storms okay? Living in Wichita, woke up to the sound of thunder, but lasted around 30 minutes if that. Was looking at the storm reports for the MO area and sounds pretty rough around that area. Praying that everyone made it through with little or no damage and no injuries to anyone in the area.
  11. Yeah, I saw that picture on their website on Monday morning and couldn't believe it. I have been to Taney when it's been busy, but nothing compares to this sight at Bennett! If someday I see the parking lot at Taney like this, I will turn right around and head elsewhere, unless something big is going on that I wasn't aware of!
  12. Very interesting to hear how the lake was and currently is. I would have liked to seen how the area was back in 76 when I was born and compare it to how it is now! Some great stories, keep them coming!
  13. You can't go wrong as long as you have those flies in your box. Have always done real well with all of them at Bennett. I would also include "John Deere" minijigs, they seem to work really well at Bennett. Here is a website that is updated twice weekly that might help you out as well for Bennett. http://www.missouritrout.com/weavers/report.html Good Luck
  14. I was born in 76 and wished I had been fishing it since then. I actually started in 2002. Went to Wal-Mart and got me a cheap fly rod to try and learn on. Rod worked great, but glad I finally got me a nice rod from Cabelas. Probably the best place to learn to fly fish on. Looking forward to my trip down there next weekend. Hopefully will get to meet a few of you.
  15. Yeah, I have never fished for whites eithere there, but I hear they have some monster stripers move into the lower Illinois river below the dam and chow down on the trout. I would like to see one chase down a trout and devour it!
  16. Welcome Captain! Always nice to see another Captain. Enjoy the site, great place to be.
  17. I am going to have to test out your little trick. I will see if it works for me!
  18. WOW, is all that I can say. The fishing sounds like fun until you see everyone. I will do this some year to say that I have "been there done that". I just can't even imagine!
  19. Awesome Pic. Have seen quite a few around KS this year as well, but not any close enough to get a nice pic like this one.
  20. Never have fished Montauk, but you can't go wrong with Bennett. Might just take a look at fishing reports and weather before you make your journey. Also, whatever is closer to you might be the best bet. More then likely you will do just fine at either one. Let us know what you decide and how you do!
  21. You know Crappie, I couldn't agree with you more. Nothing worse then being on the lake and having your cell phone ring. I do agree that everyone meeting at the dock wouldn't be a good idea, but it sure would be funny to see the look on his face. I don't fish the lake, but I know if I did always seem to catch fish there I am not sure that I would give up my spot to some angry guy.
  22. How about setting up a meeting place with fellow anglers with boats and all happen to go fishing around his dock at the same time. Everyone get their phones ready to call the police. Probably not a good idea, but would like to see the guys face when 30 boats come rolling up and fishing around his dock!
  23. Yeah, I know what you mean. Unforunately, I have had my fair of experiences like that as well. Sometimes seems like I always have to deal with something while fishing.
  24. Yeah, I used to just take my canoe and put in at the ozark park and work the area around the park and a little bit further upstream. Only used topwater bait such as a zaraspook and always had a great time throwing that around. Also fun to take a topwater weedless frog bait and cast it over the lilly pads that are there in the summer. Now that is a fun time!
  25. I was just getting ready to post the same video. Got it this morning. It is hilarious!
