Table Rock State Park Camping
CaptainT16 replied to CaptainT16's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
Here you go. We did end up staying there and it was great. A little chilly that night, but it was only a couple of miles to the fishing and ended up working out great. Here is the website for you. http://www.mostateparks.com/tablerock/camp.htm -
Wow, that is a very sad, and I must say PAINFUL story. Have you heard any more on what happened? I can't imagine what that would be like trout fishing there and happen to see all of that happening right in front of your eyes.

Well, finally had some free time to write a report. Got down to RR Sat morning right around 6:15. Since it was my fathers and I first trip down there we got our tags and did some scouting around. Decided with the crowds we would go down to the Catch and Release area. Started off fishing a little riffle right below the start of the catch and release area and caught two little rainbows right away. One actually looked like a wild trout with his colors and the way he fought? Did have great luck right in the pool that starts the C&R area, using several flies, had to change quite often though. Did finally walk further downstream in some deeper water along the bank closer to the highway bridge. Saw many large rainbows and was amazed looking at them from above on the bank. Decided to sneek down and see if we could get lucky. Well saw they were surfacing pretty good in the shade of the trees. First couple of casts with a Griffiths Gnat and WHAM, as soon as it hit the water, around a 17" rainbow appeared. Did get one other on a Gnat and one more drifting a scud under and indicator. Father caught some on a mini-jig. All in all it was a great trip. Did get to meet RR Veteran and thanks for the tips and flies you gave us. The Gnat was my "Hot Fly" this past weekend, at RR and Taney. So thanks again and my father and I look forward to meeting up with you next time and getting some fishing and story telling together next time.

My father and I finally made it down to Taney Saturday evening around 5 to get in what fishing we could. We stayed at Roaring River a bit longer that day! Started off pretty slow that night as I tried many flies, but only caught one small rainbow on a black wooliebugger. Sunday, was a great day, great conditions, but to me seemed pretty slow, morning especially. I did have great luck in the afternoon time using a Griffiths Gnat slowly stripping in back slowly. Think I ended up catching around 20 that day, slower then I expected and really didn't see very many fish being caught day. The biggest fish we caught were around 15"-16". Sad thing for the day was there were 2 teenage boys running around outlet 2 and they just kept reeling in fish after fish. I was stunned as I was trying to figure out what was going on. Well, to my surprise, (should've known) But they had the Taney shuffle down good. It was sad as their father was right next to them and allowing it to happen. I was going to say something to them, but they were just getting ready to leave once I noticed what they were doing. All in all it was another great trip. Wish I could have met some of you out there, but I am sure I will get to meet some of you next time.

Thanks for the tips RR VET and I will keep my eye open KS. We are planning on fishing from open till prob around noon and then head on over to Taney. Hit two places in two days, can't wait. Looking forward to fishing both places, especially RR since I have never been there.

Oh yeah, I remember those college days 3 years ago, I actually kind of miss them. On the account of your paper though, I don't miss it. You definitely deserve a few drinks and some fishing time. We are headed to Taney tomorrow and Sunday, so will get you a report for next week. Good luck on the paper and have fun this weekend.....You deserve it!

My father (bodyman50) and I are going to be fishing RR on Sat morning for the first time. Just wondered if anyone else is planning on being down that way Sat morning? Would like to meet some of you guys and get some pointers for fishing there. We will probably just be fishing to fly only area and probably the catch and release portion of the stream. I wondered if that portion of the stream gets very crowded like the rest? I will probably be wearing my duck hunting camoflage waders, so you probably won't miss me, if you see me stop me and say hello. Good luck to everyone going this weekend and ready to fish this new stream for the first time. Can't wait! Hope to see some of you down there. Tyson

Just making last minute arrangements as my father (bodyman50) and I are going to be coming down to fish taney Sat afternoon and all day Sunday. Can't wait as it's been around 4-5 months since we have been down there. Looks like the weather should be pretty good, although not much wind forcasted on Saturday like I hoped. Hopefully get to meet some of you guys while we are down there. I am sure i will be the only duck hunting camoflage wader wearing person down there, so you can't miss me. Stop on by and say hello. Good luck to everyone fishing down there this weekend and once again look forward to meeting you guys. Tyson

Table Rock State Park Camping
CaptainT16 replied to CaptainT16's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
Thanks snagged! Do they still close the campground gates at 10pm? My father and I were talking about night fishing, but trying to figure out a way to stay fishing later then 9:30 or so? -
Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it. I am still currently in the process of shopping around trying to find what I can find and what I will need. We do have a fly shop here in Wichita that I know carries many tools and well as classes. I am going to try and go to a couple of classes and see what it is all about. Would be a very good hobby for me when I am sitting around, which isn't often. Trying to get everything bought before baby arrives in Sept!

Fly Fishing for the Striper Family Seminar
CaptainT16 replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Striper Talk
Any chance of sharing his 3 favorite white bass flies for those that couldn't make it. I know here in KS, I am wanting to try and get some whites, or wipers this year on a fly rod. Sure wish I could have made it though, sounds like it would have been a good time. -
I promise I will try my hardest.

I see them using huge rainbow trout imitator lures out in CA. I was watching a TV fishing show and they had these huge, probably 5-7 inch baits the were rainbow trout plastic they were launching out and catching some big bass. I couldn't help but laugh, but whatever brings them in I guess. I would say this one probably did eat one of those rainbows.

WOW, that thing is a monster. I can't imagine even seeing a largemouth that big. Too bad, as they might not recognize that as a catch since it was foul-hooked? I would have liked to see he had in his pooch, quite large of course!

I've actually had the same problem lately, but working fine for me this morning!

Table Rock State Park Camping
CaptainT16 replied to CaptainT16's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
Yeah, I figured you could, but just couldn't find anything on it. Thanks again! -
Just wondered if you can have campfires at the campsites there? I was looking around and couldn't find anything on it. Just wondered if any of you would happen to know and all if the burn ban has been lifted for that area? Thanks

Father and I are coming down from KS this weekend as well. Any type of weather will be nice compared to what we are getting now!
-
Any chance of posting that petition up here as well? I am sure you would get quite a few signatures on here. That is a shame about all the new development, I really like the river, beautiful place.
-
I just looked at his screename and it showed he was last active on the 14th of March, which would have been on Tuesday, so looks like he is alive and well!
-
What is the possesion limit on those bills? Never had hear much about snagging until this year. Sounds pretty fun actually. What do the bills taste like? Just can't imagine eating one of those.
-
I would have agree by looking those pics. Nice looking Bills there. I never knew the snagging season was so popular. Just recently heard all the hype about it and wasn't sure why, now I know. Are you guys able to keep them or are they just catch and release?
