I remember when I first fished Taney, I was walking to my fishing hole and noticed all these trout were brushing against my wader boots. Had no clue what was going on that point, but did notice that everything that was stirring up when I was walking was being eaten. Finally put two and two together and figured out what was going on. I am amazed at how many people I see doing the "taney shuffle"! It is sad that guys do it just to catch a trout. For as many trout as there are, nobody should have to do the "shuffle"!

I was thinking the commercials this year were pretty horrible. I did like the bud light commercial with the hikers and they guys that get caught up with the bear, that one was pretty good. Hopefully next year they will make up for this years commercials!

Well, the opening of the season is quickly approaching us. Being never fished there, I just wondered how busy it is at RR on opening day? Just wondered if it was as busy as Bennett Springs, being a trout park I am sure it is. Just wondered, would like to make a trip down there sometime after opening week or so, but just wondered crowd wise how busy it does get down there. Thanks again!

I will have to second that one Tippet! I would have to say overcast, with some wind to put some chop on the water. Seems like when the weather bad is the time to head out. I remember once when I lived in Springfield the whole area was in a winter storm warning and thought about and it and figured why not give it a try. I had never caught so many trout before. It was snowing so heavy, but you talk about a beautiful day to be on the water. I would say those would be my ideal conditions.

Just was wanting to see how you guys prefer to fish Taney when the water is running. I have attempted to fly-fish when they are running water pretty good and never seem to do any good. I will catch one or two next to the banks, but was wondering if most head out to the middle of the lake, only accesible by boat when the water is running or if they eat very much or what they do? It always happens to me when the water comes up and I just dread it, even though I hear it can get good. Do most people move farther downstream, find a boat, give up, go to spincast, just wanted to hear from everyone what they prefer to do? Thanks for the help.

Welcome Gator! You sound just like me. I moved to springfield right after college and visited the hatchery and thought, WOW, I need to try this sometime. Sure enough, I went to walmart and bought a cheap pole to start with and it does take awhile to learn, but I tell you I got HOOKED. I absolutely love it, and better watch it or it will get in your blood. I currently live in KS, but love to make it to Taney with my father as much as we can. Welcome to the board and keep us up to date on how the fishing goes.

Congrats Levi on the awesome fish. The only thing you have to look out for??? Well, it looks like it's already in your blood now! Keep up the great fishing! BTW, how much did that fish weigh?

Just got to work and was trying it out. WOW, totally amazing. Rainbows are just swimming everywhere and enjoying themselves. Can't wait till it lightens up some, still 7:45am. Great Job and hope everything works out with the underwater camera. Hope everyone takes advantage of this amazing sight to see! Nice job Lilly!

There have been ocassions were I will get the glare down from fellow anglers as well. I just don't let it bother me. It does make one think, am I doing something wrong, did I miscount, whatever it may be. Very rarely do I keep any, but do ocassionaly keep a few. You are right, most of them I do catch are in the 15-18 range.

Yes, I couldn't agree more! Thanks for providing us with your posts Brian. I love fishing the North Fork as it to me is one river that just wouldn't think of being in MO! I have never had any luck on it, but that is what makes it fun as I have only been able to fish it twice. Everything looks so "fishy" on the river that it's hard to figure where to fish. I did get to stay at the farm last year, but unfortunately it was a rough spring weekend when they received over 8 inches of rain in 2 days. Needless to say I did get a bit of fishing in on friday night before the storm. Ended up catching one little rainbow about 4-5 inches long on an adams. He was a little fighter though, couldn't believe it. I will make sure I get me a guide next time I come to the farm otherwise known as "Heaven" to me. While I was living in Springfield, I decided to stop and try fishing the river after a trip to taney earlier that day. I knew I had my baitcaster and some topwater zaraspooks. Coming from KS, fishing the rivers there, you only fish for Catfish, or white bass when they are running. This would be a pretty new experience for me. I tell you what I got down riverside in the park in ozark and started casting my zara spook and it took only around 10 minutes until "Kaboom"! Nice little 1.5-2lbs largemouth took off with it. I tell you I had so much fishing that little river that day. I enjoyed it so much I loaded up my canoe a couple of days later and headed out and fished all the lilly pads it gets in the summer and I caught bass after bass. Biggest was around 3, but I was amazed at how well this little river produced for me. If you ever get a chance, stop on by, it will be worth your time!
