  1. I have seen several flathead caught at the Tailrace. I caught an 18 pounder there last spring.
  2. I fish the Spring so this topic concerns me. Seems to me the source needs to be investigated so it can be properly addressed rather than just pointing fingers at possible ghosts. Ecoli being a product of large mammal feces could come from a lot of sources other than people or cattle operations. It seems to me that it could come from horses, deer, geese raccoons, possums or a or possibly a combination of all the above. What about Beaver? There are getting to be more and more of them around. Seems to me finding the actual source rather than just pointing fingers would be a good plan.
  3. I'm kind of picky about cooking something that has been dead for who knows how long or why, but just out of curiosity, why do you say that?
  4. Glad you are going to make it Should be a good plan. Might even pick up a walleye or two. Paper and plastic would be good. I figure to start cooking around 12 or 1 Yes there is a boat ramp right across the cove. As far as I know it is legal. Probably a good idea to check up on it tho. I will have my cell with me and I am sure others will too.
  5. Are they catching any Flathead?
  6. Sounds tasty. I feel a fish fry coming on.
  7. Those phantom pains must be a real pain huh Terry? Doncha just hate it when that happens. You guys are making my brain hurt reading your posts. Havent heard from you for a while CC. What have you been up to? Chaising the gals again?
  8. Kansas Redlegs!!! Ma, fetch my squirrel rifle.
  9. Plastic would be ok. A person needs something durable and light to use to build them. Inexpensive would be a big plus.
  10. I will be driving a White Chevy S-10. I plan to get there about 6am or so.
  11. A person needs to figure out a material other than fiberglass to build with. Indians made them out of birch bark. In todays world there has to be some material other than fiberglass that would work for canoe building.
  12. Song would have to be the Crawdad song. Name; Battle of the Ozark Monsters: This weeks show The Whiteriver mankilling crawdad vs the Taneycomo Giant Squid.
  13. If there is a market for them and numbers start declining it won't be long before there are laws protecting them. This is the same point I was trying to make for common carp. For them to get respect there needs to be some sort of market for them.
  14. One reason I picked Cedar Ridge so people can wade. At least I hope. I've heard Stockton is up so....who knows. I am going to get there early. I like to fish in the morning.
  15. I don't know what time everyone will want to get there. I plan to be there early. I figure we should plan to cook sometime early afternoon.
  16. Yeah, Armadillo pate' BYOC (Bring Your Own Chips)
  17. I have heard bighead are quiet tasty. I would like to try them sometime.
  18. How did they get across the canal? From fishes to mammals. I don't know about 'dillos. I am not sure how they got here. I do know I don't like them.
  19. I have heard there are some really big crawdads in TR. I have heard they get up to 6 inches or a little more in length. Is a 1.5" opening big enough?
  20. Sunday the 10th at Cedar Ridge Picnic area. I will get there in the morning.
  21. Spoonbills certainly have a ton of red meat on them. Last one I cleaned was 35% white meat. Last carp I cleaned was the same 35%. A 50 lb spoonbill will dress out about 17 lbs of bone free white meat a 10 lb carp will dress out about 3 lbs of very bony white meat. Plus carp are a lot harder to dress than spoonbill. Wipers/Hybrids I just throw back. I dressed one and it seemed to be about the same if not worse than a carp for having red meat and just like carp they have a lot of bones. No matter what I catch I chuck the red meat, head, tails and other cleanings in my compost bin. Makes great garden fertilizer.
  22. I wonder how the rest of the lake looks.
  23. Thanks for the posts Marty. As always you make good reports. Any good gills being caught on Stockton?
  24. Now you done went and made me hungry.
  25. I like most fish fried up. I prefer corn meal breading tho.
