  1. Brian: I dont know what I have done to offend you but, if you will read back through the posts you will see that MTM said they (PETA) had been invistigated by the FBI on several occasions. That prompted me to remember reading an article, I believe it was in Guns and Ammo, saying that they were linked. I only mentioned it in reference to his post. You have taken it out of context and have taken offence for some reason. Why you have taken offence in reference to a group that by your own admission you dont care for nor support would suggest that you are upset about something else so, I hope you will accept my apology for what ever it is I have done to offend you.
  2. Brian: Just to clear up a point I didn't make any kind of a claim. I only said that I read that somewhere, which of course does not make it a fact. It only means that I read it somewhere.
  3. I just noticed that the Fishing Hurts link is on the Lillys Landing page also. Seems like they got you targeted Phil. Heh heh
  4. Beats me how they keep going. I read somewhere that they had traced money from PETA to BinLaden. I have no idea why they are still in business.
  5. This discussion has kind of danced around what I really wanted to discuss. I wasn't really as interested in the moralitys of gambling so much as the impact of more major commercial construction on Taney.
  6. If you are using Windows XP, ME or 98 you should be able to right click on your screen, select properties, in the window that opens select the desktop tab then scroll through the avalable images to find it. It may not be named trout. You may have to click on any of them you dont understand until you find it. Hope this helps.
  7. Just because they are your pet peeves doesn't mean they have to be everyones pet peeves. I may be wrong about this but it is and always has been my understanding that chumming, except when fishing for non sport fish, is illegal in Missouri. I don't want to argue but, yes you can be stopped just for a seat belt check in the state of Missouri. They are really campagining about pickups right now. I have recently been stopped twice just to check to see if I was wearing my seat belt. If I had not been wearing it I would have been ticketed. As I said, I may be wrong, but I believe chumming for sport fish is illegal.
  8. SilverMallard: I don't want you to take this the wrong way but, I think there are a whole lot of things you don't understand. I have no idea who, or what you are and don't really care but there is one thing I can guarentee, you do not have the ONLY correct answer to everything. Further I have been chatting on the internet since before there was a World Wide Web. I have seen 'flame warriors' on several occasions. What kind of a thrill people get out of bashing everybody and everything I fail to see. To make it more blunt, I don't believe you. I think you want nothing more than to start a flame war on this great site Phil has put up for us to enjoy and discuss issues. Further I think you are real good at searching the web and using the copy paste function on your computer. Just my 2 cents worth.
  9. I fish both Fly Rod and Spinning and have rods and reels of various name brands. In spinning equipment I think I prefer Garcia so I reckon that makes me a Garcia Warrior when I am spin fishing. Anyway I totally disagree with your sentiment about respecting space. It has been my observation that fly fishermen tend to disrespect the fishing zone of anyone not fly fishing a lot more than otherwise. Last week I fished both fly rod and spinning at Bennett. While fly fishing I did not have one incident where a spinning fisherman messed up my fishing space. When I switched to the spinning rig I had two separate incidences where fly fishermen delibertley waded right in front of me and blocked my fishing zone. I spoke to both of these fishermen but they both ignored me and acted like I wasn't there. I didnt want a confrontation so I moved a little bit and cast out again. This seemed to appease the first fly fisherman but didnt work with the second. Within a couple of minutes the second fly fisherman had cast over the top of my line and tangled up in me. He acted like I done something wrong so I cut my line and untangled the mess. I retied and cast out again just to have the same thing happen again. Again I cut my line and untangled the mess only this time I walked away and sat on a bench in the shade. I was watching the people fish and noticed the fly fisherman make about two more short casts then walk off and start the same process all over again in front of another spinning fisherman. Why he was doing this I don't know but it is obvious he was targeting spinning fishermen, not trout.
  10. kickinbass: I agree with most of what you say except the security part. You are right that casinos are big on security, but only their own. The rest of the community has to fend for theirselves, so it is the crime outside the casino that I am talking about.
  11. There is a pic of it in Mo Conservationist. It is huge. Here is a pic.
  12. Remembering where the truck is parked is a plus when fishing.
  13. There are certainly a lot of good people who like to go gambling. If that is what makes them happy; cool. No problem. There are plenty of places within reasonable driving distance of Springfield to go gambling. How many Taneycomo lakes are there within reasonable driving distance of Springfield? I have no problem with people who want to go gamble, I don't try to stop them or any way mess with their past time. Why do they have to mess with my past time, fishing, by trying to build a casino on Taney. There is a certain amount of 'red light district' that goes along with casions. A lot of people who like to gamble don't indulge in these activities but at the same time they don't want them in their back yards. So I have to ask if they don't want it in theirs why are we wrong for not wanting it in ours? Yep. I caught several a couple of days ago. Had a good time too.
  14. Bill: I think you are right but like Phil I hope you are wrong. I am all for progress but I think porogress needs to be defined. If progress means leagalizing gambling, drugs, whores, putting up with the crime they bring, completly trashing the enviroment, making those of us who dont want the mess to have to pay more taxes for law enforcement and schools .......... If that is what is going to save the world...then I guess I am just against progress. Personally I think RB and Branson are both barking up the wrong tree if they think casinos are the way to go. There are still a lot of famlies out there who are looking for a place they can take their families. With all the casinos going in around the country someone would be smart to develop keep a family oriented vacation enviroment. Eventually they they will hit the jackpot.
  15. I go to Rockaway quiet regularly and I understand what Wayne is saying but I still don't believe gambling is the answer. I think the money that has been thrown in a black hole trying to get gambling in there would have gone a long ways into bringing positive and lasting changes to the community. For example they could have developed some land and donated it to a business who would bring X number of employees there, they could have hired more police/sherrif officers to clean up crime in the area and they could have started some community clean up and revitialazation projects. Once these goals were attained they could have done the same thing for another business and it would have been more attractive to new businesses so before long business would be wanting to come there.
  16. Yeah I know but seriously I think it is funny that the link is on the site but I also think Google could change it if they want to. I looked but haven't seen the fly fishing site 'girls in waders' listed on there. They are also interested in.... uhhh... ohhh yeah fishing...yeah that is right fishing. Took me 15 minutes to realize that was a fishing web site. My wife didnt think so. Anyway they are also interested in fishing so why arent they arent advertised?
  17. I think a lot of people in Rockaway have been sold on the idea that if a riverboat casino goes in it is going to make life good for them. I dont think that is the case. I think it will only be good for whoever sells property to the casino. The mom and pop resturants arent going to make $$, the casino is going to put in their own restrurant and the people who dont eat at the casino will be going to go some place upscale to eat. The same thing goes for local motels. All of a sudden local business owners are going to find their business arent upscale enough and will find that the patrons will be going to Branson and Springfield to eat, sleep and buy gas anyway. I am not convinced that a casino is the answer to their problems.
  18. I have been thinking about buying another fly fishing outfit. Right now I am using an old White River Classic 7 wt with an Orvis Battenkill reel. I primaraly fish at Bennett and Taney. I also want to use it to fish for bluegill. I have been thinking about a 4 wt but am not sure that is what I should use. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  19. Went to Bennett this afternoon. Caught probably 20 or 25 fish. Only one of any good size. I seen a couple on stringers that were decent although most of the fish I seen were smallish. I didnt see any browns caught today but I am sure there were some. COlor of the day for me was brown early then peach later. I seen some people using white. I am still not seeing the numbers of trout I used to see at Bennett. Down at the whistle bridge in years past there were always way to many fish to count, that is not the case now. At best I am seeing half of the numbers I used to see. But maybe I just go on the wrong days.
  20. I have noticed that sometimes they prefer the lazy action created when the tail is shortened. Depends on the mood of the fish I think.
  21. I agree with you guys for the most part. I am not for the Casino on Taney. I do believe that if people don't get out in record numbers we will have it. I think it is kind of sneaky to put it on a statewide ballot when it mainly affects the people who live here. It should be a local vote. Anyway they will keep at it until they get it approved unless people get out in big numbers and soundly vote it down again. The only way the will stop is if they think there are so many people against it they can't ever win.
  22. It would be more likely to pass in the upcomming non presidential election. Not as many voters out.
  23. I agree with troutchaser, there has to be a better option out there. I don't mind the people in Rockaway getting a break but on the other hand I don't want to see commerical construction get completly out of hand on Taney.
  24. ROFL Rob. I think I will sponsor a vegetarian.
