Do you have rod holders for your kayak? If so, I would take both rods to cover all situations. When I float the Elk for smallies I take a 7'-6" 3 wt fly rod and a 9' 4wt. I tie a small popper or foam hopper on the 3wt and a streamer on the 4wt. Steve

Brown woolies have worked well for me. Brown and olive are my two main colors for smallies. Steve

I saw some pictures of some nice stripers and hybrids from the Zink Dam area this morning. The person that caught them has been doing best in the late evenings and after sundown. Steve

The people at the campground used to let us pay a small fee and park and fish. They gave us a tag to hang on the mirror. I haven't been there in several years, so maybe they don't do that any more. Steve

As has been stated, D&B is no more. Other than BPS, the Gadget Company is the only place left in Tulsa for fly fishing products, and they don't sell tying materials. Steve

Be sure to keep an eye on the water level. They will be generating Monday afternoon and the water comes up pretty fast. Steve

Most of the stripers are being caught on live shad right now. I've managed to catch a few on flies, but getting more hybrids and whites. This morning I caught a few whites, a couple of sauger, and about 20 drum. Some of the drum were pretty big. As you know, there are also a lot of gar in there right now. I hooked up with one but he spit the hook out before I got it in. Steve

Cole, It takes 9 hours or so for the water to get low enough to fish at Zink after they shut it off at Keystone. It was down yesterday afternoon, and will be down again this afternoon. I went down around 7:00 pm yesterday and fished till dark without a single strike. I didn't even see the bait guys catch anything. The water is very murky right now and the gar are thick in there. Chance, T&M Sand and Gravel is between the Watts access and Marval. There is a big sign at the turn-off. If you go downstream from the parking area, there is a deeper section with old car bodies on the far bank. That run usaually holds a few stripers. There is another deeper run downstream of the car bodies hole that also holds some stripers. Steve

Were the small ones browns or bows? There have been stockings of small browns down there in the past, but the bows are usually 12" or bigger when stocked. Steve

Zack, We usually do see more low water in the fall and winter. To answer your first question, sometimes. I have had days that produced more hybrids than stripers, and vice versa. You never know. Steve

I got out yesterday and caught a mess of bluegills for dinner. I am going to let them rest today and go back tomorrow. Steve
