  1. I don't know why I have to put up with all this abuse, and scotch? Wouldn't be caught dead drinking scotch! Rather have a good shot of Knob Creek whiskey. Well Knob Creek on payday, and probably a blend when it's not. Been known to sip a little Irish Jamison from time to time too. Dano; I'll send you a PM.
  2. Sorry Dano; I get easily confused. I don't know if we'll be able to fish the last Monday or not. It depends on how work goes. I will definitely fish the last weekend if you can get free. I haven't fished much in the fly only zone except when the upper end is too crowded this year. There is a few nice fish below, but the horses are all in the upper end from the highway F bridge upstream. That is just my opinion though and Tim should chime in on this one. Let me know if and when you can make it, and we'll throw in some extra dogs or something.
  3. Dano; it was more like Cheeze Whizz color to me or maybe that string cheese stuff that sticks to you teeth like peanut butter. Nope... usually, we don't have a get together on the last day. Only the C&R opener. Opening day of catch and keep is too wild to even think about breakfast on the river. Considering March 1st will be on a Saturday, I wouldn't go near any of the four parks in Missouri. I'll probably drop by late in the day after all the embedded hooks get pulled out of people.
  4. Leave it to Ronnie to come up with a logical answer. He's been around Beeson too long. I didn't do worth a darn Saturday. Yesterday [sunday] was another story. Caught fish until we got bored. After Tim's report, wish I had thrown a dry. White and green weighted leeches did well. Best for me was Oregon cheese egg patterns in size 14. Largest fish was a bow - five pounds even. Nice beautiful fish.
  5. I stopped down at the park at noon today and they were just adding logs to the dam constructed yesterday. They were also ripping out some of the concrete reinforcement slurries. Like Tim said, the water looks good. I really expected it to be higher. In fact, I was hoping it would flush out the river a little. Dry Hollow was just that... pretty dry. My guess is it has been so dry the past few years, the ground soaks most moisture received on contact. By Friday, it should be perfect both in flow and color.
  6. JS; you ain't kin to Terry Beeson is you? Only Terry could come up with a story like this one.
  7. Yep. I bought a weighing net from Tim's Fly Shop a couple of years ago and wouldn't be without it. These particular nets are made in New Zealand, and as near as I can tell, are very accurate. As far as I know, Tim is the only shop that carries them. Never saw them anywhere else including the Internet. Tim carries two sizes that he special orders, and I bought the bigger one so I can use it in the boat too. I believe it weighs up to 30 pounds and the smaller one up to 15. They are not cheap, but very well made. Scale pops out of the handle, so very easy to use.
  8. Rainbow; if you do decide to fish Roaring River, remember that during the C&R season, RR is only open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. 8AM to 4PM.
  9. About an hour & fifteen minutes depending on how well you handle curves.
  10. In my opinion, Beaver tailwaters are the step child of Arkansas White River system, and won't hold a feather to Taneycomo, Bull Shoals, or Norfork. My guess is from Branson, you're looking at a solid two hours or more. Basically, there's no easy way to get to Beaver except round-about through the country. Unless the family wants to visit Eureka Springs, I'd look at Bull Shoals, Norfork, or just stay put on Taneycomo.
  11. This "post card" virus is a hoax that makes its rounds.
  12. I have a question since RIO has announced a “hard as steel” tippet material. A buddy of mine has a mid range Orvis rod, which is not a low-end rod at all. Nearly all the snake guides out to the tip have groves cut in them with the tip being almost worn in half over the past four years he owned the rod. I am sure Orvis will take care of it, but I’m concerned over what caused it, as personally, I’ve never seen it. The guy originally had GPX fly line, and then switched to Orvis Wonder Line. The Orvis line lasted less than a year, probably caused by the worn guides. As far as I know, he has used a Blue Sky furled tippet on both fly lines for the duration. At first, I suspected the furled leader, but that doesn’t account for the wear on the snake guides. My guess is the guides were way too soft, as I have only seen this with the Fire Lines and Spider Wire, but never in fly-fishing. In conjunction with this, I wonder if it should be a concern with the RIO tippet material. Your thoughts?
  13. I am not a big fan of FAOL's site, but it is really good for folks just starting in fly fishing or tying. I'm sure the other folks here will supply their favorites too. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/
  14. I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones too. Thanks all for coming.
  15. Yep. Jimmie Hopkins so hide your power bait bud.
  16. I got mine too. Great tie guys and thanks for hosting Mike
  17. Everybody is welcome Chris. I also invited our Park Ranger so Dano, you need to behave.
  18. Ollie; if there is any left by 9:00, it will probably be good for gluing any loose felt on your wading boots. I'd opt for lunch. See ya
  19. We always have plenty of of breakfast Rusty. We will have a propane grill setup at lunch time and a camp stove in the same place, and we'll have dogs, buns, hot and mild salsa. If there is something special you like, bring it along. There is always plenty.
  20. I haven't heard of it myself Dano.
  21. Rusty; yes, I am talking the last parking lot in the fly only zone. Look for an old creme colored Ford Explorer with plates "O-GRAT1". Welcome
  22. Nope. We always have plenty to eat Ronnie. I usually bring a couple of dozen biscuits and a big pot of gravy. I make a "stick to your ribs" gravy... none of that canned watery stuff. A little goes a long ways. If you want to stick around for lunch, you might bring a dog or two and some buns, chips, or whatever. We won't run out.
  23. Just an open invitation to anyone who will be at Roaing River November 9th for the opening of C&R season. There are several of us who meet the Friday morning of the opener for a get together and some hot biscuits and sausage gravy. Look us up at the end of Campground #3 and the begining of Zone 3 near the old dam. Breakfast should be ready at 7 AM. All you have to bring is your appetite!
  24. My selection will be in the mail tomorrow.
  25. I stopped and fished last night for a couple of hours. Green woolies, black & olive zebra midges, and cracklebacks. It didn't matter. A lot of stockers, but had two nice bows. It should be a great weekend to fish.
