  1. It takes so many years for trees to grow and such a short time to be gone!
  2. Just waiting here in Troy IL. {St. Louis} for the snow to show up The forecast caused me to cancel my planned fishing trip to Montauk. Sure didn't want to take a chance driving in those hills and snow.
  3. C&F which shows on the waterproof box I received at Christmas {for streamers} as being made by Scientific Angler looks to be a good box. All my fly boxes{TOO MANY} are C&F and they hold everything nicely, even the real small stuff. My friend made some #32 have not tried them in the C&F boxes, CAN'T FIND THEM
  4. I think I understand what some of you/family are going through! Like the wind storms that hit the St.Louis area in July. The destruction that Mother Nature can cause is hard to imagine sometimes. My dad lives in Grove Oklahoma, around 20/30 miles east of Joplin and much of the town is still without power and the number of trees down, he said is hard to believe!
  5. This probably sounds stupid But do they make the low profile hats in a x-large? It seems like a lot of them I try on are to tight!!Don't think me head is that much larger I know Feather-Craft in St. Louis sell some of their "one size fits all" in XL
  6. Sounds good to me!!
  7. Why was it closed? All the trout parks are open on Mondays.
  8. 32 and rain at 710pm 1/13/06 Troy, IL. neighbors lost some more tree limbs during the night. Pine trees just don't handle the ice well.
  9. 33 degrees and rain, Troy IL.
  10. Talking big numbers in the amount of rain in the St. Louis area and coming right up I-44 water which is needed for all our water ways . The down side,ICE!!
  11. HEY RUSS! Guess you need to move to IL. Man what a wide gap on price Maybe the guy who sold me mine, in the alley behind the Ford dealership, didn't really work for FORD
  12. This just hit the news at 445pm they have found the Ownby boy and in the same apartment, Kirkwood Mo. they have also found the Hornbeck boy who has been missing for 4 years. BOTH BOYS ARE ALIVE!! Not much else known at this time. GEE! I guess all three of use were typing at the same time. This is hard to believe. GOD IS GOOD!!!!!
  13. flyfishBDS: Excellent piece of advice! I have also noticed when you keep changing the angle of the pull it indeed keeps the "fish from becoming too comfortable", my brother-in-law seems to have trouble with large fish, to quick on the reel to wind them in and also straight upward pull as you mentioned.
  14. One thing I learned on the tires I bought for my F-250 decide what you want then check out the prices, when checking for a good price don't leave out the dealers. My Ford dealer had the best price, even beat the so called discount people.
  15. Mikey: I have never used yarn for an indicator but after reading Davy's piece I'm going to give it a shot. For what it is worth I think you could soak the yarn in "Water Shed" which is a permanent waterproofing liquid which should last a long time.
  16. I guess the answer to the question is "Do what makes you happy". Everyone has their own skill levels, thus you have different levels of experience participating in this forum. Its like calling a Glow Ball an Egg Pattern fly, some people use them others wouldn't be caught dead using them.
  17. I was informed by a friend that starting March 1,2007 the price on Non-resident Missouri fishing license is going up. He also said you can BUY NOW at the 2006 price. This info. should be reliable but you never know!
  18. Maybe the flickering light tells the fish where to go and {1 long for the cable, 2 for Chute#1 and 3 Chute#2} has replaced the Big Fish Whistle!!!!
  19. LMW: Using a dry fly for an indicator is not that much of a deal. Buy some #12 Crackelback or even some big Attractor Dries/Terrestrial's {#10/#12} then take and soak in "Water Shed" a permanent waterproofing material {Local fly shops}. These flies will stay up just like an indicator and let them drift like an indicator. You need to watch for drag no matter what you use . Make sure you separate these flies from the others. You will on some days catch as many on the top as you will on the trailer. I like the rounds ones the best! The size I use is based on the type of water I'm fishing. Larger for fast runs/riffles that break up the water making it harder for the fish to detect. Small for slower moving water that is clear. I too like the palsas but also have problems moving them since they do not want to stay in place after they are moved. I continously move my float {Indicator} searching for the right depth fish are feeding. The rule of thumb does come into play based on the fish being near the bottom but does not mean they are feeding at that depth. I try to look for suspended fish feeding which is a good clue where to start. My $0.02!
  20. My fathers name is Bob Hurt.
  21. CC: I'm also right handed and reel with the right hand, seems like I can reel a lot faster this way. Left handed reel just does not feel right. Have not had any problems,to date, switching hands on the hook up.
  22. Just found out yesterday 1/4/07 my 83 year old father has Cancer in his Right Lung. He is now waiting to hear from Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas when to arrive there to start his treatment. He has been my fishing friend for many years. All your prayers will greatly be appreciated.
  23. Received an e-mail from Jerry at Weavers, this date, concerning my e-mail to him about dredging in Zone 3. Jerry talked to the Hatchery Manager & his Assistant and NO dredging has done in Zone 3. The work done below the Whistle Bridge was to rearrange some of the rip-rap in that general area. Jerry was also informed NO DREDGING was planned this winter at Bennett Springs. You can depend on Jerry checking everything out to make sure the info given to him is correct. I'm still getting over the terrible dredging done a few years ago above the Hatchery Inlet and just below the island. This was a terrible example of what dredging can do to good water when not properly managed. Now you have one deep hole that grows more moss every year.
  24. Mr.Ducky Remember the word diplomacy, give her a Kiss & I Love You at midnight to start out the New Year, which should carry over to mid year, unless you screw up big before then. Go to bed immediately after welcoming in the New Year, say a prayer about not having any water running when you arrive, set the alarm to get the family to Taney REAL early to fish until the party starts. Mrs Ducky and the kids can get some much needed sleep, in the car, while you fish with Leonard and his big fish whistle!! REMEMBER to leave all the other rods at home and get your fly fishing started on a positive note. Happy New Year!!!!
