Anyone know who it is that filled the big hole on the north bank? they dumped loads of limestone into a hole under a old tree that almost always produced a 2 pound brown. that hole was stable through the flood last year.

The Brookies have been scattered. I have caught brookies all over this year. I have a friends thaqt raises mostly rainbows, but recently be stocked his ponds with Brookies and he loves them says they grow well. Dont know what strain he has but claims they can be a couple pounds in two years. Cutts seem to feed the herons alot. I have had a couple really large browns to the boat but my net person dont move fast enough anymore. shes a good cook and does windows and laundry or I would find another net person (Joking) I tease her a lot over missing the fish. But for the life of me I cannot figure out the last two weeks what has happened to the browns. We have fished from the dam to Buffalo Point and every area that normally produces browns has failed. Goota go work on fish at the sho. later. John

fishing has really picked up, lots of trash int he water even before the construction at the dam began. Lots of good browns, nothing legal in the boat. but lots of 18-20 inch browns. some really nice bows, but they have ran smaller this year than the last couple. Friday was slower than past weekends, but still good. Fishing has been better early in the am or late in the evening. Some of those late guys have caught some nice, really nice browns, below Buffalo there has been a flurry of catfish, larger ones, none have had tags from what I hear. We have been catching brookies and cutthroats a buncg, but these are all in the 6 inch range. Does anyone know if the hatchery ever grows them out larger???? in the regular rainbow size would prevent the browns from chowing down so bad on them. We have caught some really fat bows in the area known as the Narrows, but foun d out why yesterday. a dock owner is feeding them and fishing in the frenzy. River has been low really low and a lot of fun, there are several days we have caught over 100 fish per person. One Thursday afternoon, Friday and Saturday and until noon Sunday my Army buddy and I landed over 700 fish for the boat. but we fished hard very hard had several 3 lbs rainbows Husky Jerks were the ticket for big fish. Trailer Bunks
taxidermist replied to Forsythian's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Make sure the bunks extend past the transom of the boat. Better support of the boat and it will not knock the bottom out. I made bunnks for the river boat three years ago treated lumber and regular staples from Harbor frieght and we use this trailer two or three times a week most weeks, not rusted anything yet. we also did not glue the carpet down. One of the people that builds trailer told me not to, so I followed his directions. I forgot the reasons. -
Buffalo River is a no go, no shooting from or across the river. Feds changec the law from when the formed the river.

Minimum Flow On Lake Taneycomo ?!?!
taxidermist replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Somewhere there is a book much like an EPA study to say the lest, this book tells how much water should be released during slow peroids to keep the trout alive. This was done as the COE developed the plans for the dams. I bet the COE has them and keeps them hidden. FOI may cause them to release a copy. You will have to pay for that copy but I know the studies are there as I had one on BUll Shoals some 35 years ago, before I did my Mititary time. -
Estes Park Co Fishing (and Family Vacation)
taxidermist replied to Greg's topic in General Angling Discussion
I have fished the Big Thompson several times during August. One of the best lures or flies I have ever found is a grass hopper. During August when the hoppers get going its always good a CD-1 Rapala also works well. Gold and black but the Brown trout pattern gets good too. First fished Big T back in the 60's with my Dad then later with my cousin. Always pretty!!!! -

Thanks zoyt. Many older fish mounts get into problems with fins and grease bleed on fish, when the fin get broken many people just toss the fish and its a shame when that can be fixed. The haired mounts, sometime get a carpet beetle that eats the air off at the base, this is the mange look you are possibly seeing. Carpet beetles are called that because in years past the carpet in homes was made of wool and unless air out and treat with a moth ball type of substance the beetles ate the carpet. If carpet beetles are caught early in yhe infestation they can be treated killed and no problems will occur. I use a chemical that is suppose to lock into the mount during the tanning that is said to repel beetles and even moths, has no odor. But still a good yearly cleaning does not hurt. John

This brown trout was caught in 1971, had a lot of grease bleed, plus fins were damaged beyond repair, head was terribly out of shape. and paint was poor to say tyhe lest. Raised the head off the fish so there is a bit of gap between the body and the gill covers, removed most of the top and sides of the head, replaced all the fins with reproductions I have molded. Did some body body work to give the fish a better shape and smoothout the bumps. This old mount was filled with sawdust so lots of work softening the skin and removing the bumps. Repaint and repair the panel, now customer has the fish his Dad caught in 1971 and its better than when first mounted. This bass mount went through a fire and its the only thing the man was able to salvage, caught in Florida some 20 yearss ago, replaced eyes, fins, cleaned sealed and finsihed panel, striped the fish and repaired a lot of areas that has shrinkage, repainted and better than new. This is also a repair, head was missing, fins were crushed and needed a bunch of help on paint. So with the repairs done and a good bit of painting, it too is better than new. Here is Mongo. I mounted this bison in 1978 for a well known couple in Harrison,, well Mongo had not been touched since then when I placed him under the skylight, I recommended aganst it but the customer wanted it there. Wow lots of dust and lots of fade!!!!!!!!!! So a good shampooing and lots of dye work with three different color dyes and a hot oil treatment and furriers glaze mongo is good as new!!!

6 LB IS FINE, I use Vanish, theres a big lot of talk about this line size verse that line size and its only talk. I have been testing a bait caster line, thats not on the market yet in 17 lb test. and have caught just as many fish and maybe more large fish on it. But my choice is Vanish Gold in 6 or 8lb for my spinning reels, we fish the river weekly and sometimes two or three times a week. Vanish is a flourocarbon line very little stretch and super sensitive. Gold disappears instantly in the water.

NOone sells sculpins that I know of. Most of the people here fly fish for trout, so thats why you have not had any respose. Some docks on the lake have minnows and I have heard of gold fish being used. Honestly we have torn up the fish bows, browns , small cuts and a couple brooks on white rooster tails. We fished White from the dam to Cotter two days and did a repeat on Taney como last night.

River And Stream Bass Anglers: Do You Catch And Release
taxidermist replied to msamatt's topic in Conservation Issues
I dont think its fishing pressure. I thin the gravel not being mined from the streams is the problem. I know Crooked Creek is not near the deep holes it had below Pyatt when McClinton was mining gravel there. Water is warmer too., I remember 40 years ago when the creeks were cool and with removal of the trees and the gravel providing shallower water and filling in the good holes. Smallies are doomed. Released or not. -
We have been dry on ran and the vis is pretty good right now, way better than normal I think. We are seeing lots of fish in the brush and just under the edge. do you spear fish?

Check your messeges, give me a shout.

Fishinmachine, lower end will be clearer than the upper and middle areas, maybe 12 to 15 feet above the thermocline although I have seen 30 and more below in the cold water. Take you a wet suit and a hood, even gloves if you are going to do a long night dive. Thermo cline is at 22 feet this past week, to a b it deeper as you know its waves under there. there were zero fish below the thermocline. On the lower end I am thinking about doing the same thing you are under lights. just to see whats there. a Couple nice points come to mind on in the Jimmie Creek area called three caves, and around the point in the cove, they catch a few rainbow there in the spring and I have seen lost of small walleye in the coves, so a night off a point and a night in 20 feet of water in a cove my see some fish.

No I have had customers stuff to get out. I have painted a bit, done some repairs. was thinking about it today as I looked at the big fish. So I went and looked a a copy of the world record with hope that would motovate me a bit. I will have it ready for next years show.

Here is a pic of a fish I recently took to the Arkansas Taxidermist Competition. Over forty taxidermist from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Mississippi were competing.

There is a small camp ground above Carver, locals cal it Blue Hole, but I cannot tell you how to get there by road, just horseback. LOts of good fishing for numbers of smallies right now on top waters.
-
LOL, its not the lower White. Mt View is about the end of the trout area unless its winter then you can catch trout as far down as Batesville, but not many!!! You may look for Crappie in the edges and even some good largemouth. I know of many 5-6 largemouth caught this spring near the Sylamore launch area.

Just cooler water and like now wehn the brush is flooded, they are working well over the brush.
