  1. Just a rumor, he PPM is well under the limits. The warm shallow waters are allowing sort of an alge bllom early. If you hear a rumors just callt he COE office and ask they will tell you. samething is happening on Bull SHoals and Table Rock.
  2. AGFC has stocked lots of trout, Rainbows, Browns and even Lakers in Bull Shoals Sad thing is people cant tell the difference. The last Lakers were about 10 years ago and did very well. We use to fish under the lights near 125 dock and have caught a lot of big bows. IN the winter I have caught bows up lake in the Tucker Hollow Bear Creek area. AGFC stock from net pens in the Pot Shoals area, use to catch a few stripers close to those pens back in the 1980's.
  3. It was a last minute deal. we met family at Cof O for breakfast and figured since we were there to take the Bass boat out and burn last years gas up. We added some fresh gas. Put in by Scotty's after getting Lamar to renew the license and crusied up to the dam, busted some bow and lost a nice brwon at the boat caught it inthe edge of thegrass down from Point Royal. We made several runs to the dam and then decided to go down to Roark. then aftter fishing there and catching some bass, caught more bows around the point we decide to cruise down to the Powersite we did not do so well down lake. I did lok for the oldest boat and motor onthe lake, did see a bered fellow in a Richline and an old Johnson heading in about 4 or 5 pm to Rockaway. We still have about 3/8th tank of gas left so thats not bad for a 90HP 2 stroke on MPG and most of the gas being old. Wife and I had never been down lake on Taneycomo. Lots of white EPS foam blocks floating around! Had it been the orange or blue I would have found a use for it and cleaned the stuff up. I was really suprised at the number of steel barrels too.
  4. NO there was a pontoon parked on the crappie and keeping everything!!! Ya/ll know I like to fry fish but man they were keeping 6 inch fish. We headed on down the lake to the dam and when we came back they were still there. Fromt he looks of them I fiugre many went into Kimchi. At the main lake dock just before Roark there were some people fishing catching the crap out of fish, four in just a few minutes they were gone when we cam back uplake.
  5. Hey guys heres a challange for ya, about 100 yards on the left past the dock in Roark is a Koi near a brush pile, small brush pile but the fish is there its easy to see, its an exotic see if ya can catch it!! It turned own worms, power bait and everything else we laid in front of it, looks to be about 14 inches long mostly white has some orange on it witha couple black spots. We had a heck of a day catching small bass in Roark.
  6. No they will not shock the area, the AR GAME and FISH Commission meeting in Mt Home last week, was keep everything thats not undersized. walleye 18 inchs, stripers 20 inches they coul dnot really decide on smallmouht size but they think 10 inches since its part of White River. They did mention not to extend the daily limits too.
  7. If you are raising cattle, you most likely have a tractor that you could use to bury the dead cows, There are places to get rid of them. Not in North Arkansas, you dont have to have a tracotor to raise cattle or horses. I had 24 horses at one time down to 11 now and I dont own a tractor, yea I would like to have one but its a bit of a cost and I dont have the $$$ to buy one. I know many many people that dont have tractors or even have access to tractors and raise cattle and horses. We dont say Crick here its Creek long e! Nearest land fill in over 50 miles from me, so that makes it alot longer distances for others. Guess what they dont take anything thats not BIO DEGRADable either. I know I have been in contact with the three sanitation companies over a building that burned here before I bought the place and noone will rent/lease a dumpster for the clean up, because the refuse is burned, if it was wood then the they would take it. Thats why you see all the toilets sitting around in peoples yards as flower pots. Yep I admit Arkansas is way behind, sadly way behind on getting things like this fixed. Its very very easy for anyone to sit where you are at and judge eveyone else. But its not easy to fix all the problems. Animal carcasses as mentioned no rendering plant to send them to, matter of fact I know many ranchers in Missouri that do the samething. Since branding is not required they readily push cattle bodies into the rivers, espcially up in Dallas County, Dade county even Taney County. You just have not seen them. Look in Bull Shoals right now you will find bodies cattle, horses and many other small animals. I expect as much from city slickers saying its easy to get ride of such and such, but when you live in a rural area its not easy when FACILITIES are not available. Guess you could also say Buzzards, need to eat as do Possums and Coyotes! Anyone have a millions bucks to invest start a rendering plant in Harrison or Mt Home and run trucks to pickup the animal caracasses. Yep it also comes down to person rights, why should I pay someone to drive down from springfield to get a carcass? or have to rent a backhoe or hire one? thats $300.00 maybe not alot to people who dont have livestock but it can be the difference between feeding the family, going to work etc. Most of these hill people are poor and work harder than the average person ever thought about! I see by walking thru the cemetaries how young many of them die, logging accidents!! Every family that looses someone down here ends up with a bank fund to help pay for the burial of the people. Sad but there are bigger fish to fry than a cow carcass, when we have people starving to death in the UNITED STATES, kids going hungry day in day out, a stinking cow carcass seems less important to me. I defended your rights to bitch about anything you want, but that means I have the same right, I just think there are far worse problems in Arkansas and Missouri than dead cows!! How about all the twister victims, dont they need the help more?
  8. When I said no cruelty exist, i meant that with that cow is may be nothing more than a flood victim. Maybe it died of old age or something that has no cruelty involved. Its too late for a necropsy if its stinking. It is biodegradable too, it add to nutrients in the water. I am sure if we look closely we can find several in the Missouri waters and even in Bull Shoals lake in the Missouri area. As for the dumping of junk yes thats been a problem, the place I bought has aditch where a burned mobile home was dozed to and no way could I afford to clean it up, the seller did not have the money to clean it up. As for the cleanup of things there is a EPA Superfund site that drains right into Table Rock Lake and many of you eat fish from there.. I try to remember the saying "We all live down steam" Yep Arkansas has a bad rep on cleaning up junk, its remote in many areas, scrape buyer dont exist in most remote areas. I do see truck loads of junk cars leaving Newton County daily, but its no because of being enviromentally friendly its because they need money to live on. I agree you should not dump junk, but where do you start? Where do you dump old toilets and sink etc? Where do you get rid of a carcass from livestock if you have to put it down? Not everyone has a place they can haul it to. Like I said if you check I bet there are many flood victims that are livestock this year!!
  9. I still think the cow is a flood victim, its sometimes hard to find livestock that drown, they tend to wash down stream. We had cattle on Buffalo River at Kyles Boys ranch in the 1972,73,74 and never found some of them. I helped friends pull carcass out of streams that noone claimed, they can wash miles down stream. Sorry but thats how things happen, livestock die in floods and wash miles and miles even humans have drown and washed miles and mile that happened near Greenfield MO recently.
  10. No cruelty to animals exist, they dumping of livestock is legal as there is not way to have a rendering plant pick up the carcass. Also with the recent high waters is could have been a animal that drowned, so I seriously doubt any crime has been commited. With scrap prices so high I doubt the dumping of cars is recent, matter of fact there is a but a a ruckus going here a local went in on Buffalo river and pulled two scraped cars that have been in a ditch for years out and hualed them to the scrap dealer. We in Arkansas dont have a DNR to run and report things like this to. County judge LOL not much good there. I thank God our Fish and Game is not over developed like Missouri's is Just that Fish and Game and not so many different depts. you can call 211 I heard on the radio, this number will guide you to the different depts of the Arkansas State Government and phone numbers.
  11. It is part of PETA. Germany did that a few years back. But you also have to understand in Europe you take a year of classes before you can get a license to fish, then you have to have a card to fish that water for that day. My German firends say the samething that the law is in hopes of getting people to quit fishing. There are few game wardens to enforce any laws in Europe, so the enforcement is laid upon the people who fish for the most part. The law is one of those that is left to "Who will enforce it."
  12. We have a 17 ft Lowe aluminum with a 90Hp JOhnson 2 stroke. It does really well on gas, oil injected. Boat is rated for a 120hp motor, we seldom run wide open throttle and it does pretty good. Really cannot guess at the mileage but its got to be close to 10 mpg, we run up Bull Shoals 12 miles by GPS oneway and in three trips it takes 7 gallons or there abouts, give or take 1/2 gallon. We had a 9.8 2 stroke merc on the river boat and could fish two weekends on 5 gallons , we doe the same with the 15HP 4 stroke but use only 3 gallons, we put in at Wildcat ran to the dam and floated back using 1 1/2 gallons of gas with three people in the boat. The bad thing is the 4 stroke 15 is 147 lbs and the 9.8 was 87, big difference in the wieght. Where weight is not a factor the 4 stroke is fine, on a river boat the 2 stroke is the way to go.
  13. Hey one more thing yes the Buffalo National River was rated that day as fairly safe!!! Call the Newton County office and ask or call the BNR HQ in HArrison.
  14. Geez people its a wild river, read when and why it was established. Next this was a freaj accident, for those who dont know Zed Davenport the Grandfather works for the Game and Fish Commision on Gene Rush. I know for a fact Josh has beenon the river many many times. Its a sad fact this happened to someone with much river experience and not some of the idiots that visit and the fact they are LOCALS And not yeawhos , who were drinking and doing stupid things. You cannot make water safe, you can only use care. Everyone who has ever floated the river more than once has dumped either by accident or on purpose. I too have been pinned under a canoe with a log and things happen you cannot plan for everything. So by the same token you are putting lcanoe rental in the bad business catagory then you need to put the Corp of Engineers and your state game wardens in the same boat so to speak. Taneycomo is unsafe as is Table Rcok, Bull SHoals and the whole chain right now. Sounds like a LIBERAl has to put the bLAME ON SOMEBODY when its no ones fault. I have read the sheriff's report and everything was done that could have been done and its no ones fault it was an accident accept it , they happen. Sad that Josh and his wife must live with this forever, thinking that maybe if they had done just one thing else Little Zed would be fine. Rememebr Little Zed had a life jacket on too.
  15. It was a freak accident. Not the parents fault, not the fault of any human. At any given pint on the river or any river you can dump the canoe and be pinned under it. Refusing rental is not the answer the river is wild, wild wild wild and anything can happen, there is danger everywhere we go everywhere we live..... It could have been a rock falling or anything. Blame on the consessioner is not right either. God decided it was time for the boy to go home and thats it, so if you have to put the blame somewhere then you must put it on God, he is the one who decided if little Zed lived or died. No thte parents, not the livery. All rivers are dangerous, you cannot protect everyone all the time, all lakes are dangerous. Buffalo is advertised as a wild river and how many had floated it before the accident in the couple of weeks without anyone getting killed? A couple thousand anyway. Maybe a thouasand that weekend!!
  16. River Runner is right on where the fish came from I talked with one of the AGFC bios about it the other night. The AGFC knows who the fish farmer was but are not going to do anything about it, because of how the laws were when they fish were broguht to the USA, and the man was allowed to bring them in for farming. Should you catch one destroy it in some way, they are LUNG FISH and can survive oout of water for lengthy periods like days, thats how they were shipped to the USA..
  17. Beetle spins #4 Colorado balde and school bus orange beetle if you can find them.!!!
  18. Seven year old Zed (will) Davenport, son of Jason and Lori Davenport. child wearing life jacket drwoned over the weekend when the canoe he was riding turned over, pinning him underneath. Kepp them in your thoughts. John
  19. We catch alot of rainbows on the baits I posted when we fish Taney. and depedning on What the water is doing on White River. If they are running a couple generators the bows really like the gold and black raps CD-5. for larger trout. We can go up int he upper area and throw CD-3 and catch smaller bows. That fish I caught not far from Lillys. but the high water the boat is super hard to handle. Its one of those things we just have to deal with right now, we did launch in downtown but not on the launch ramp the road that day. The key for fishing in the big water is to find a big eddy, tree, where the creeks enter Taney even up in the creeks or the inside of the bends. Even behind the bridge supports., the next area once they cut the gflood gates is the fish will move out and many times get infron of the same large objects, these become ambush points. I dont know but I think the water more readil is split by the objects and the trout dont have to work as hard to stay in it and they have a better ambush point to food sources. If everything goes right we will fish Taney on Sunday. I t will be afternoon. I really prefer early am, to get on the lake before the sun comes up. As for molding I could have made a fiberglass mold but th is fish is to awesome to allow the heat from Fiberglass to destroy the fish. Yea I could have molded it by now and pulled a couple replicas. but by going with the more expenseive silicone I get to do the skin mount too. The fish has awesome fins which is not normal for rainbows most times they have been beat up.
  20. There is a difference in buying someones elses reprodcution and finishing it over me making a mold off this fish. Many of the reproduction fish avaiblale to the public are out of molds that are worn out. Yea I can buy someones elses reproduction and spend hours repairing it and have to do the same over and over. Or I can make a silicone mold from this fish and have control over the mold, control over the quailty of the reproduction s that will come from this mold. So nope due to chemical exposure of the fish I will not eat itm no need to risk getting sick over some meat. When I make a mold, I keep the first reproduciton from that mold as the original, it is never finished with paint. The reason is when the mold has had about 50 pulls made the mold starts breaking down and going bad, looses details and quailty of the additional reproductions becomes poor. So I keep the first reproduction from each mold so in the future if I need to, I can can remake the mold. I will sell a few of the reprouctions to other taxidermist that we do an exhange program with. This keeps just anybody from getting a copy and copying the fish. I try not to buy the cheap poorly done reproductions and theres a lot of them floating around!! Like skin mounts all taxidermy is not equal, nomatter if its fiberglass, deer mounts or birds. I m using a tin based silicone to mold the fish, then will back the mold with a fiberglass mother mold. Silicone picks up all the details and still allows me to do a skinmount on the fish when the mold is finished. John
  21. I guess it depends on what you want to catch. Lots of small fish i.e. stocker rainbows or bigger fish that being browns. I use a gold and black backed rap a lot and catcha lot of stocker rainbows and an occasional brown with them. then I go to the largest Husky Jerks the 13 series and catch bigger fish. Fewer fish bit bigger fish. Here is a rainbow I harvested under high water conditions. I will be molding it for reproduction. Using a huge stick bait. (no need to pm and and no need for the bitching fromthe c&r people) 30 inches and a 19 inch girth scales said 13 lbs 7 oz. I did pack her in ice in a cooler immediatly. Just order $500.00 is silicone to mold her with, so that perfect reproductions can be made. not sparing any expenses on this once in a lifetime fish. These lures are my favorites for big fish under high water conditions. Nothing I posted is open for debate other than how to use the lures.
  22. Brook trout, not huge by any means. Hand carved body, hand molded and cast head, combination of airbrush and hand painted. Rocks were carved also. Enjoy
  23. Its the National Park Service not the Forest service. Two different organisations.
  24. 105.5 saud they close the flood gates on BSD today. Still running 8 generators.
  25. Jusy wondering where they aremade, they looklike the Supreme, but how are they priced?
