Does anyone know if they've stocked the Roubidoux, yet this year?
-
Nice!!! Were you using clouser's?
-
I'm not much of a trout fisherman. But, I think they would be killer for smallies. Going to try tying a few today.
-
Personally, I'd try below the dam this time of year, if they're running water. If not, try the Ha Ha Tonka area (Big Niangua arm). Or up on the Little Niangua arm. ... But, I'm an outsider, the regulars know better than me, though.

Where'd ya get it?

I don't have hybrids or whites in the creek by me, ... but ... the perfect timing coincides with the little purple sprouts that come up in the corn/milo fields ... is known as henbit (fyi)

good pics, ... do any good, there?

quote name='rangerman' date='Feb 27 2009, 07:10 AM' post='97838'] how do you get to the MariOsa and can I get my ranger multi species in on the ramp there. I love to walleye fish, so how good is it there. The Mari-Osa is 7 miles east of Jefferson City on Highway 50, under the bridge on the Jeff City side(west). You can see on the attached map, about where the lock and dam is located on the river. (bottom of pic), it's where the lock and dam spur road ends. Put in at the Mari-Osa and go upstream to the lock and dam. It should have enough water for your boat. ... check the river levels on http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/current/?type=flow&group_key=huc_cd ... click the Osage river level at St. Thomas, it's the closest to Mari-Osa, also, you can check the gage below bagnell dam. It always has water there and they're catchin a few there. Both have good accesses. If you catch any they're usually sauger not walleye, same as far as i'm concerned. Also, I don't know where the guy was catching the fish that Seth was talking about. whether it was up or down stream. good luck ... wader[

Yea, Wardsville is the next public ramp. There is a few roads that dead end at the river, that I climb down the bank to wade or drag my yak in at. But this time of year you want to be below the lock and dam, So come up from Mari-Osa. ... Sounds like they're catching a few below Bagnell, I'd try there first. .. Good luck

glad to hear the reports. I'm getting the fever real bad.

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear the crappie are biting. You said keepers, any size to em?

As far as I know, anywhere you go from the Mari-Osa in a boat is fine. It's usually good downstream to the Missouri. Upstream, you can only go a few miles to the lock and dam, anyway. ... The area I know about, is upstream from the lock and dam. It starts to shallow of quickly. Many sand and gravel bars, with some chunk rock here and there, and a few trees. I've waded and kayaked, several sections of the river upstream from the lock and dam to Wardsville, the past several yrs. Of course it was late summer or fall. The river was at it's lows. The river can fluctuate 10' or better, depending on the release at Bagnell dam. .... From Tuscumbia on upstream I"m not sure, I have never boated it. ... Below Bagnell at the put in. It usually is quite good and when releasing water, is the place to be. ... Between now, and June, anytime the river is up or rising (due to dam release or rains), head for below the lock and dam or below Bagnell Dam. It's like ringing the dinner bell. Many different species make a run to these two spots when the river is rising, in the spring. I hope this helps. ... Wader

The shallow water I was referring to is much farther downstream. From the lock and dam, east of Jeff. City, upstream, the water shallows quite a bit, until you get to at least Wardsville, maybe Tuscumbia. .... I waded the river several times late last fall. Near Painted Rock CA. I actually crossed several times, just downstream from Wardsville. Of course, all this relies on the release at Bagnell Dam. ... The put in, just below Bagnell Dam always has plenty of water and is usually the best fishing for whites, anyway.
-
CMAC, The river has been low lately. I wouldn't be going upstream in anything other than an aluminum river jon with a short shaft motor, or a jet boat. I'd be wary about using fiberglass. A lot of shallow water now. ... Seth, Keep us posted. .. Wader

Some good looking flies. I'd be throwing them for smallies ... Wader

Just a thought. If your putting in at Mari-Osa. I'd try running up to the lock and dam, and try for walleyes (sauger) below the dam. They ought to start schooling up there anytime. The whites should be there in the next few weeks. Especially if we get any rain, and the river begins to rise. Jigs with minnows usually work. Good Luck. ... Wader

Siusaluki, Depends which direction the best fishing is. lol. .. I usually paddle up and drift back but it really depends. I haven't been on a stream yet, that the current was too strong to paddle up. Also, most of the streams that I've been on, in my inflatable yak, I have to portage a lot. So, I mainly wade fish and let my yak trail behind. Then I use the yak to get across the deep holes and drift back where I can. Not sure what your craft looks like but, I tried a normal paddle the first leg of the Big Piney, and will never do that again. I used my double paddle on the 2nd leg and it was half the work and twice as fast. Send us some pics and lets us know how you do. ... Wader

Below Bagnell On Friday
creek wader replied to podum's topic in Bagnell Dam Tailwater/Lower Osage River
Check out this site. http://www.pondboss.com/forums/ubbthreads....p;Number=134907 In the pic below the goldeye is on bottom the skipjack on top. Growing up in Nebr. and fishing feeder streams of the mighty Mo. We caught a lot of goldeyes. They are toothy critters and will jump a lot. After seeing the pic with both of them in there, I can see the confusion. The skipjack is narrower or more sleek if you will. One site stated that almost all species that eat baitfish will eat the skipjack herring until they reach about 5" or bigger. The average adult skip jack is around 16 in. I caught several skip jacks below Bagnell last time I was there. ... I hope this helps. ... wader -
I hope your right Al. The Upper Tavern is a nice little smallie stream. Like to see it stay that way.
-
K. Thanks tippet7. I found it on the map. Obviously, by your pic, it holds some smallies. How's the fishing?
-
siusaluki, .. .. Hate to put it up yet, myself. But, I rarely get the the time and daylight and weather to coincide. They say I'm not to let it freeze. I leave it in my suv at Jeff. City. The weather is changing fast. I'll give it till early Nov. But, probably won't get many chances to use it. There's a stretch on the Maries, I've been wanting to hit. I'll wait a few weeks and see what happens.
-
I"ve seen that done. It'll add some weight with the battery. But, it beats paddling on dead water for a mile or two in 90 deg. weather.
-
It seems like most of the rivers have the long deep never ending pools. Makes a guy wish he had a square stern canoe with a trolling motor. One such pool that comes to mind, is the stretch on the Meramec River right before Scott's Ford. Below Meramec Spings there's a good current for a few miles, then it just stops and becomes dead water. I've tried to fish that long deep pool and have never even got a hit. It's just part of stream fishing. I guess we've got to take the good with the bad.

10/12 .. It was a nice fall day. Figured I'd take my yak out, one last time this year. I drove down to the last low water x-ing on the lower section of the Tavern. Aired up the yak and headed upstream. The water was slightly murky but, not bad, a little low. Probably normal for this time of year. I mainly threw senko's and twister tails. Caught about a dozen mixed largemouth and Kentuckys between 8 and 10 in. and a handfull of various sunfish. Finally, when I was almost back to the starting point I caught a 14+ smallie and a 12+ largemouth on a wiggle wart. It was the only smallie of the day. I'm a little disapointed with the lower section of the Tavern. It looks like good smallie water, gravel bars, riffels, runs, etc., but I've caught very few smallies in the last 10 mi. of it. The Kentuckies are very common on this section. Yet, the upper section is quite good smallie water and I have yet to catch any Kentuckies on it. I may sound like a broken record, but I'm afraid it won't be long and they'll take over up there also. ... wader
