The fishing was great today at the park, I had to close early on account of laziness, and pretty weather Johnny, shaun, and I fished from 1:30 to 4:00 and the fishing was great the whole time, Shaun caught 9 on a small apricot fur bug, he caught 4 on a black beetle, several on a small wooly worm, don't know how many he caught we stopped counting after 15 or so. John and I did pretty good, I guess I landed about 30 fish in that period of time, I caught most of mine on a green/grizzly #14 crackleback fished just under the surface and stripped back. I caught maybe 20 doing this, and then I switched off to a brown beetle, and managed to catch 6 more, they slowed down on that I switched to a #18 white brassie, caught 4 on that and then broke it off and put on a green crackleback again and managed to aggrivate the fish for a while, hooking several but never bringing any more to hand. John was doing about the same thing, he caught a bunch on a brassie(copper) and he caught several on a catipillar or a crackleback, one or the other, and when I left he and Shaun were still catching fish. We didn't catch anything of any real size, shaun had one that was about 15" and John and I each had one about 14", but we did catch some scrappers.

I guess they are a closeout(frog toggs) he just ordered 20 more sets, 10 for me at the store and 10 more for him. He is selling them for 28.99, close out prices for sure, but what a bargin, they are new in the package. Blue, black, or tan. I think he only has blue at the moment, but the other colors are availble.

I have a patagonia SST jacket and it is nice, just to pricy, I usually where a frog togg jacket I bought at bass pro outlet for 15.00 it was just to cheap to pass up, I have wore that jacket for two years, and love it, I used it the whole month I was in new zealand, and yes it rained almost everyday, and it worked great, never a leak, and they pack down very small. I have a buddy selling complete frog togg suits right now, for just 28.99, PM me and I'll give you his # if you are interested. He owns the local gun shop.

Look at this Orvis tecnical manual of the Mid Arbor reel. http://www.orvis.com/orvis_assets/files/Ba...0Arbor.indd.pdf If you take a small straight screw driver and take the screw out of the reel spool #21, the # 20 and #19 will come out with the #21 screw and your reel will be silent, put the 3 parts in a zip lock bag so you won't lose them just incase you want the clicker later. The reel will work just fine with out these 3 parts.
-
The clicker in the midarbor battenkill is just that a clicker, if you remove it the drag stays the same and it doesn't void the warranty, at least according to orvis it doesn't. but the reel will be much quiter, and that is what some people like.

I guess we are still lucky here in Cassville, I filled up this morning for $1.69 per gallon

It can be adjusted, bring it down next time you go fishing and I'll take a look at the reel. I fished an hour this afternoon, didn't see you down at the river, I stayed up near the lodge, I caught several fish in the hour I fished, caught them all on zebra midges.

I fished an hour this morning at the park, fishing was very good. Caught 7 fish all on a black zebra midge, fishing in the riffles. The water was in very good shape, just a bit above normal and clear enough you could see bottom in 5 or 6 feet of water, should be very good fishing this weekend. I think all we are supposed to get today are light showers, I think all the heavy stuff is gone. I talked to one guy today that was catching several fish, he was getting them on # 14 olive woolybuggers(beadheads) and he said he had done well on a #16 pheasant tail the day before.

Fishing was very good this morning, nothing big, but I caught 30 fish in about 3 hrs. then it started raining and I decided I didn't need to get wet. Caught them all on chamois worms and white marabou streamers with just a hint of red in them. Caught mostly rainbows, but I did catch 7 or 8 nice 14"-15" browns and 1 rainbow about 15". It was a good morning, I should have stayed longer.

I have fixed lines like that for customers before, superglue the cut, then wrap over it as neatly as you can with some tying thread, I use 3/0 most of the time, and use what ever color you like, I wrap about an inch on both sides of the cut, then I use some water proof epoxy or some softex to cover the thread, it will never look the same and it will always make some noise going thru the guides, but you can go ahead and use the line. I use the softex most of the time, it is pliable and drys clear. Good luck. Oh when wrapping the 3/0 thread, at the last 1/4" double some 4 or 6 pound(about 6" should be enough) mono making a loop, wrap over this loop and when you cut your 3/0 you can put the tag end in the loop and pull the 3/0 mono back into the wrap and it won't come undone while you are mixing epoxy or opening your softex.

Steve would probably help, if I could take the chatter I need to hire a kid for a week or two just to remove the fish, it was most difficult releasing fish yesterday, but well worth the discomfort. It was so nice to be back on the river after 2 weeks of not fishing, I'm lucky, I read this forum everyday and it kept me in touch with everybody, and it was good to read the fishing reports. It really helped to keep me going. I hate to but I'm going to rehab again today (fishing) It really helps, rehab is the best. Thanks to everybody out there for their thoughts and prayers in my speedy recovery. See ya on the river.

If the water is down on friday at taney, I might just fish over there. It takes only 50 minutes to get to the the park and it is only 45 minutes to taney, and I like fishing them both. But come to the park on friday if they are running water, I plan on fishing a few hours everyday, untill I go back to work, fishing is my rehab

First day back fishing, the doc released me yesterday and told me I was cured not to bother him again, and he told me to start fishing and doing anything I wanted, except no lifting, so I'll have to take at least 1 more week off from work Fished about 3 hours, and caught 22 trout, just your average trout but it was better than having to just sit around the house. The water was clear and there were lots of fish in the river, the upper end by the lodge was just loaded. Caught all of my fish on a #14 green ant, Joe Bacon was fishing below me, and he was catching them on a green ant and later on a tan beetle. Had a great time, it was good to get back to fishing.

Roaring River will be a little slow this week
timsfly replied to Steve Smith's topic in Roaring River State Park
John has been guiding on Roaring River for sevearl years. He is a local on the river and knows what he is doing. He is a great teacher, he works great with kids and people that are just getting started. He and I have spent a lot of time on the river togeather, he is a very accomplished dry fly fisherma, we have been to the san juan many times. He is just a good ole boy filling a need here at the park. If you know someone needing a guide on Roaring River his # is 417-846-0010 -

It is a 1/32 jig head, moss green marabou tail, olive #2 chennile and grizzly hackle. I have tied this for years. It works great for about any fish in the ozarks, I tie them 1/4 oz and 1/8th oz for smallmouth and largemouth and tie them in lots of different colors.

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts, I got extremely lucky the sugery went well, If I had waited even a few days more it could have been a whole new ending, but thanks guys for all the thoughts and prayers, you are a great bunch of people.

Water is still normal and clear at the park, the rains missed us for the most part, we recieved about a inch and half here last night, is still looks rainy but is only misting right now, of course anoter 2 or 3 inches could flood us, but it is in great shape now. I crossed Flat creek this morning and it was over the banks, but crane creek was only up a little, the rain just rain in spurts I guess.

Just discovered new item / Tippet Rings
timsfly replied to DeepDiver75's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
I have sold those little rings for years, when I worked for Jack at Roaring River we sold them by the thousands every year, and don't worry they work as well for the dry fly fisherman as they do for the nymph fisherman, I've used them for over 20 years on the san juan fishing small drys and they work great, I grease my whole leader when fishing drys and if you put a little grease on the ring along with leader they will float all day. The little rings are inexpensive, only .50 cents each, these things can make a leader last 6 months or better. I tie one on the end of a 7 1/2 4x or 5x leader, and then tie what ever tippet on to the ring I need, fast simple and if you have the aging eye syndrome then they are even better, give em a try, you might like em. And if you are a new fisherman and haven't learned you knots yet, it can keep you fishing longer with out all the headaches, but you need to learn your knots because sometime you'll lose the ring and need to rebuild a leader on the river. -
This past weekend, there were a lot of white bass up past the mouth of roaring river about 1 mile in, just a ways past, what we locals call Yellow bluff. I talked to a friend of mine who fished up there on sat, took them 2 hrs to catch 45 that were about 2lbs each, a few bigger but mostly big males, so if the weather holds they should be up in the shallow part of the river in a week, it makes for some good wade fly fishing when they get up below the bridge there at eagle rock. See ya on the river (I hope)

This should clear things up, droppers are leagle at Bennett unless it says no dropper in the area you are fishing. This memo came to me from the conservation dept. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/timsfly/regs.jpg Sorry it is so hard to read. but I'll fax copies to anybody that needs one.
