  1. Creek Chubs can be fun, sometimes on the creeks around the house here they will reach upwards of 10", don't ever try to put a price on what a trout or any other fish cost per fish, I would hate to think what each fish I catch costs, man those might be 500.00 + fish each. Just enjoy your time on the water and spend, spend, spend, it is fun to buy stuff and then go fish
  2. I have a guy that does that kind of work, and does it very well. He has refinished several bamboo rods for me and for several of my customers. Call me tomorrow at the shop 417-847-4956, between the hrs of 10a.m.-1p.m. and I'll give you his #, or bring it down and I'll have him come by and give an estimate. His prices are very reasonable.
  3. Yes I'll be open next sunday, my hours are 10:00a.m.-1:00p.m. I have trout permits. The shop is about 1 mile north of the park on hwy 112, the shop is on the left hand side if you are headed towards Cassville, and I'm 6 miles south of Cassville on hwy 112. See ya later. Fishing was pretty good today, you should have a good time next week. I caught a bunch of fish this afternoon on black woolybuggers, and orange/red dot glo-balls. One fellow a ways down today was catching a bunch of fish on a black beetle, and his buddy was doing almost as well on a olive/grizzly crackle back.
  4. I put My stuff and Steve's stuff in the mail this morning, thank you for hosting this swap, I hope the boys use it all cating lots of fish.
  5. Yes right along the seam, or in the dead still water, a lot of times I'll just let the egg fall and let it sit on the bottom and just lift my rod tip enough to let the egg rise and drift just a few inches to a few feet at a time, those trout in that still water just can't take that sometimes. It requires good polarized glasses and time. Sometimes I'll let an egg lay right on the bottom for a minute or more, if I can get that egg to roll along the bottom I can get a strike almost everytime. On windy days when I can't see very well I'll use a small indicator or a 1/2 a palsa pinch on float. I like the smaller eggs for this type of fishing. But I've had days when the bigger #8 eggs worked as well as the smaller #16-#24 eggs. I fished the park on monday and caught most of my fish on a yellow softhackle and a black ant. I was fishing my 5' 3wt and it dosen't throw eggs very well, at least the lead head glo-balls. On sunday I caught all of my fish on a small tan bead head woolybugger.
  6. Jeremy the egg worked great for me on taney tuesday, I managed to hook and land 42 fish, mostly browns. One was just a bit over 12 lbs and the other nice fish was a nice 5 lb brown, it was a good day, caught most of the fish on a apricot/red dot, and on the oregon cheese/red dot. Both tied on #16 2488 TMC hooks, no weight just let them sink real slow in the edge of the current, just below outlet #2. It was a great day yesterday.
  7. I fished crane for an hour today on the way home from taney, it is very low, but I did manage to catch 4 small trout the biggest was about 12". Used the 6' 2wt and small # 14 woolybuggers. Olive was the best color for me today. I fished at the wire road access below the town of crane.
  8. I was down there a few weeks ago, it was very low and very clear. I fished the area down below town, caught a few on woolybuggers. Black and olive seemed to be best for me. I have caught a lot of fish on san juan worms. I might fish there tomorrow or wed. depends on how much water they run at taney. I cross crane everyday I fish taney and sometimes I'll stop and fish on the way home.
  9. Received the flies yesterday, they look great, I used the green ostrich herl scud this morning, caught 8 fish on it and then broke it off, oh well that is how it goes.
  10. Steve, I just talked to Marvin at the Hatchery. He told me they stocked 800 nice fish, 300 from 4-6 pounds, and the rest were from 2-3 pounds and they stocked 2000 more just regular sized stockers, should be a good opener. See ya there.
  11. Bring them down friday Steve, I'm ready I have a few thousand Woolybuggers already tied up
  12. Sounds good to me, get the thing started and I'll send em a couple of doz. woolybuggers and some tippet material. We have to support the troops and if they can fish some over there great. I have talked to a couple of guys that have come back from a tour over there and they have told me of some of the fishing.
  13. Hard to beat the woolybugger and the mohair leech, both work great in all the state parks and taneycomo. My favorite colors are black, olive, purple and brown, sometimes white is good also.
  14. Look real close to the Hobie, I've had one for 2 years and it is great, the sit on top is nice you can see better and mine has two storage areas in the boat, it is heaiver than my preception, but very stable, the pedels are ok to get somewhere but at times they are just in the way, but the rudder on the back is great and it was easy to rig up an anchor system, and you can get one at Bass pros outlet store for 700 to 1000.00, I got mine for 600.00 2 years ago, couldn't pass it up since that one retailed for about 1500.00. I have fished mine a lot of places where it would have been a real pain to have taken even the smallest of flat bottoms, good luck on finding the right kayak or boat.
  15. What fly are they copying, I've looked at Bretts' web site and I myself have tied a lot of those patterns or versions of them, I even sell a few that are similar, but I have been tying them for over 20 years, I didn't even know they had a real name, most of the small patterns I tie, I tie from my experiences on the san juan and at taney. I'm just curious as to what pattern someone is copying and selling.
  16. 6X fluorocarbon is what I use most of the time, sometimes you can get a few more fish on the 7X especially if you are using drys. I use the apricot and the oregon cheese most of the time, but the cream delight and the lt. roe work pretty well also, I put red dots on most of mine and I tie some weigted and some with no weight.
  17. The park will be open fri, sat, sunday and monday this year 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. You can fish just about any small nymph in the winter and do very well, as long as the water stays low and clear, I would suggest small pheasant tails, copper johns, brassies, burlaps, and zebra midges will all be effective, about any small nymph will catch fish during the winter. The woolybugger is very effective in the winter, the bigger fish really seem to like em, blue, purple, olive, black and tan are good colors to have around, I always carry a few with cones, a few with beads and sometime a woolybugger with out a bead or cone will work better. We have some good dry fly action in the winter, griffiths gnats and small adams will almost always catch you some fish on top, we have a small dark caddis that hatches most of the winter, about a #18 or # 20 matches them the best, they range from dun to black. I fish a lot of glo-balls and san juan worms in the winter and I have taken some real hogs on these patterns, I caught my biggest last winter on christmas day, she was a nice 16lb rainbow and I caught her on a san juan worm. The hatchery feeds the fish in the river once or twice a week, so a good pellet fly works well, especially on fridays Good luck holler if you need anything while you are down, I'm open on fri, sat, and sun. 10-1, yes just 3 hrs, I want to fish to. Good Luck.
  18. Zone 3 is below campground 3, where campground 3 is located that is zone 2 and you can't wade there.
  19. No wading and swimming has been allowed in Zone 3 for over 30 years and I think it has been leagle down there since the dam was blown out in the early 60's.
  20. Here are some of the egg patterns I use.
  21. Wading is allowed in the C&R area, this is the area from dry hollow down to the F- hwy bridge. You can also wade a few hundred yards further down untill you get to just above the handicap access dock. You can also wade all of Zone 3. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/documents/areas/hatc...roaring/map.pdf This link might help. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/documents/areas/hatc...regulations.pdf and this one also, if you need more info, call me at 417-847-4956 this is my # at the shop, I'll give you more info if you need.
  22. I'll be back in the shop tomorrow, I'll try to take some pics and put them on for you.
  23. Sorry Roaring River dosen't do a Derby anymore, the chamber of commerce used to sponser the derby and they decided to quit a few years ago.
  24. Closed the shop a bit early today only 2hrs early and went down and fished. The fish are running a bit on the small side but the amount of fish make up for the size I guess, I fished my little fiberglass 2wt scott and had a blast, caught fish on #22 egg patterns (apricot, and oregon cheese), and small #20 brassies. it was good fishing, I caught maybe 12 fish in a couple of hrs. and had that many more hooked, it was real good sight fishing. I did try a small griffiths gnat and had few come up and look but none took. Used 7X frog hair fluorocarbon and a 9' leader, tried 6X once after I broke all my 7X off once and the action slowed down a bit, put 7X back on and the fishing got a lot better real quick. Water is very clear and the springs output is about 4 million gallons per day right now, that is info from the hatchery as of friday. I did have 2 fish over 5lbs come thru the shop today, both fish came out of zone 2, one on a bugger the other on a 1/100th thread jig (white)
  25. Sorry I just put 2 dollars in the package, My flies and Steves flies are in the same package, please mail them back that way and I'll see he gets his flies, and his flies and mine are in the mail. I work all day in a fly shop and don't have time to do anything but tie flies. I don't have time to run to town
