Tie some #10-#14 beetles, #12-#16 ants, flying and sinking both are working. Green/grizzly #14 cracklebacks, I use the holographic green tinsel for my body, it has been working well, pheasant tail nymphs, #14's-#18's are good right now, zebra midges #18's and 20's have been working best for me, san juan worms in red, orange, and the natural chamois colors are working best. woolybuggers, #10's-#14's weighted and some with beads have been good, my best colors have been tan, ginger, and olive green.RS-2's in brown, black and gray have been good also, #18's and smaller. Elk hair caddis are good most afternoons, #14's-#20's are best, small #18-#22 adams are good also, most all day long, and tie some griffiths gnats they are also good, Good luck and good tying.

My black mohair leeches are in the mail, let me know when you receive them. Thank you John, for hosting the swap

Yep using a 6wt and using 7X and 6X is tough, I use shock gum and it works great it will stretch almost twice its length, makes a nice shock absorber, it goes at the end of your fly line(between the leader and the fly line, it is good stuff, but when you buy your next rod, get a 3 or 4 wt that will help a lot.

I fished taney the past couple of days, and flourocarbon sure made the difference for me, I use it all the time, but at taney I do find it works just right, 5 or 6 X early and when the sun comes up high I use 7X my favorite brands are Frog Hair and G-max but there are others out there that I'm sure are good also. I caught a bunch of fish the past couple of days on #18 zebra midges and chamois worms, and a few on small apricot fur bugs (#20's) The numbers of little browns are fantastic, I only caught a few fish over 16" but I must have caught 40 or more about 12-13" I'm glad I took the 2 weight, the fish were a blast on the scott 6' 2wt. Couldn't belive the numbers of guys that were shuffling, is this becoming more popular ? any way good luck and taney is a great place to fish, enjoy it and ask questions, most people will tell you what they are using and how they are fishing.

Kids waders - Looking for kids waders/hippers/boots
timsfly replied to bowfin47's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
I have some breathable waders(new in box) that might fit the young lady, they are a brand new pair of reddington Large Youth, looks like they might fit her, the gravel guards and the wading belt are included for 35.00. These belonged to a friend of mine, who bought these for his wife, she was very small, well things didn't work out with them so he asked me to sell them for him. So holler if you want to look at them or have more questions. -
You are right there are some good fish down below the Zone 2 area of Roaring River, the natural bait area always holds a few nice browns, and a good rainbow or two. The area below the park fishes well, but not a lot of fish, in august the river will be very low and this actually helps you find the bigger fish, there are very few deep holes left on Roaring in august, and any sizeable hole will hold a fish or two, and sometimes more, the conservation dept. stocks down to Curry bridge once a month, so there are always a few fish around. I have caught most of my big fish below the park on bigger woolybuggers and I did catch an 11 pound rainbow a few years ago in the winter around the Muncy cemetary area, on a san juan worm, so you never know what they will hit, but the lower area is full of minnows and crawfish, so the fish don't want for food, and lots of sculpins also, I never see much topwater action but hoppers and beetles will pull a good fish up sometimes, prepare for a lot of walking and you need to be quite and wear low vis clothing, this will help in august. Holler if you need more info, I can help you find the roads into this area. timsfly@hotmail.com e-mail me here for more info, good luck.

Add me to the list, Tim Homesley I'll tie a mohair leech I use at taney at night, and everywhere else for that matter, a mohair leech will catch almost any fish.

Free Fishing Weekend in State Parks

I don't know where you are located but if you get down my way (roaring river) stop by the shop and if you want to we might do some trading on that rod, I sell that one in my shop and it sells very well in my area, just a thought if you get down this way. Maybe we can trade you up to a longer rod. I sell winston, scott, cortland, orvis, fenwick, and st. croix fly rods, but if you want I would probably just by the rod if you are asking only 95.00, that would be a good price for me if the rod is nearly new. Come by and holler sometime, if you are in my area.

I fished from 4:00 to about 7:00 tonight caught 18 nice trout one about 3 lbs, caught them on griffiths gnats, beetles and green/grizzly cracklebacks. water is normal and almost gin clear now. Good luck.

I fished up Roaring river yesterday, caught a lot of bass on my fly rod on big white and gray foam # 2 poppers real early in the morning, about 8:00 in the morning, big whites started pushing shad up in the shallows and it was a hoot, caugth several over 3 on small gray and white clousers the whites stayed around for about a 1/2 hour, when they were gone I started fishing just up stream of yellow bluff with 3" bass assasains and big rabbit strip flys on the fly rod, didn't catch but one keeper on the fly rod, but caught a bunch about 14" long, caught 3 before noon that were all keeper sized(I put em all back) good day for me on the rock, and it was a hoot.

Pagosa Springs Colorado
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
We caught bookies out of fourmile creek last year, but I was looking for some different water, I have the colorado atlas and there are many, many little streams that are supposed to have brookies, near pagosa springs. Thanks for the help. The Let it Fly, Fly shop, gave me some streams to fish this year. It is a neat little shop, not big but has a lot of stuff, and the owner is very helpful. -
I was told that it did not pass, I'm not sure of where it will go from there.

Crane is great place to practice stealth and accuracy, I use a short 6' fly rod a 4 wt I find is best, most people go to crane and fish flies that are too small, I do best on #10 woolybuggers, #10 or #12 san juan worms in red, I have caught countless fish over there on just a # 10 hopper in the summer, you can catch them on small flies but they are more like brookies I fish for out west, unless you spook them they will try to eat almost any dry you can float over them, I have had good luck on glo-balls also when the water is up a little. I use 5X tippet most of the time, except when fishing drys, I will try 6X and that usually works, I have had to drop to 7X a few times, this winter I did this a few times and caught a few more fish, but I like 6X most of the time over there. Parachute adams have also produced a lot of fish for me on crane. In the summer I like ants, big ones # 10's and #8's work pretty good. I think you should fish crane like you squirrel hunt, move slowly looking ahead and watching for fishy looking areas and walking gently, I know the fish will spook if you walk to hard on the gravel, don't ever jump down off of a bank or slide down anywhere near where you want to fish. I usually walk down and then fish my way back up stream, good luck crane is a wonderful little creek.

Water at the park is still murky and above normal, but it is clearing a bit everyday, and the water level makes for some good nymph and woolybugger fishing. The hatches are still good, caddis, blue wing olives, midges, and some sulphurs are showing up everyday, beetles and ants are starting to do well again the hotter and more windy it is the better for ants and beetles. Small zebra midges and red hots are still working well as are pheasant tails, scuds and hares ears. Caddis nymphs such as the burlap are a good choice everday. Over 1600 kids showed up for Kids free fishing day on the 20th, it was a blast, lots of happy kids and parents on saturday, the hatchery put a lot of fish out about every hour or so, so there were fish for the kids to catch all day long. thanks for all the donatios from Lucky Strike, go fishin, lucky lady trout worms and sportsman's supply, the kids put all the stuff to good use Marabou jigs and Roaring river Specials in olive, white and lt. tan worked best all week, 1/32nd and 1/16th worked best. Plastic worms are a good choice right now, cheese yellow, mint green, white, and orange/white were the best colors all week. Power eggs in white, hatch brown, and flo. orange were good all weekend. Roostertails, the ole 30 minute wonders produced well all weekend, skunk, black, and the frog green worked the best. 1/16th of an ounce worked the best. The water is still murky so you can still get away with the 3lb maxima but 2lb is still best, the thing most people still aren't doing is adding enough weight to the line to get the eggs and worms down to the bottom where the trout are waiting. If you were fishing in zone 3 then corn, night crawlers and meal worms worked best. Good luck.

The XM radio is a great invention, on trips out west, there are areas where you can't pick up any radio station, and on the interstate it keeps you from looking for stations, just set it on the kind of music or talk you like and listen the whole trip, I wouldn't give up my XM radio now, I've had service with them for about 2 years now, it is worth the monthly fee.

Thanks, Sam I appreciate the info.

KIDS DAY MAY 20th Roaring River State park
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
Thanks Steve, I didn't know you could get them a day in advance, it saved me time I went down and got one for my nephew. The hatchery guys told me there may be as many as 2000 kids tomorrow, that is the # they are preparing for. The hatchery is roping off all the holes from the low water bridge just south of the lodge all the way back up to the hatchery, there should be plenty of room for 2000 kids if they show up, it should be fun anyway. Thanks for the info on the kids tags Steve, hope to see you down there tomorrow. -
KIDS DAY MAY 20th Roaring River State park
timsfly replied to timsfly's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
If you are fishing saturday, at Roaring River and need a break, go talk to Jerry Dean at the hatchery and see if they need a Volunteer, I know they still need some guys to help the kids, tie on hooks and stuff like that. -
Don't forget to bring the kids over on the 20th of may, the hatchery stocks the first 5 or 6 holes till they are full of trout and then turn the kids loose, it is a hoot, lots of happy kids, and the hatchery stocks fis all day. all bait is provided if needed, there are about 40 rods and reels there for use by kids that don't have rod and reel, there are a lot of prizes and stuff this year. So bring them over and have some fun. It goes on all day till the siren goes off that evening.
