I had a customer in on friday that told me they stocked it again last week. But haven't heard much more than that.

I think I'm heading to Bennett tomorrow, anybody else going to be up there. I'm going to go and see for myself where all the fish have gone

I tied a few for a customer, after 2 weeks he finally caught a trout on one.

I fished this evening and caught a few on a #22 paramidge(black) had a good time, several rising. Missed a few on a small red unweighted zebra midge, hooked a few on a #18 egg(apricot) Just before I left I put on a #16 ginger crackleback and caught two more. pheasant tail nymphs have been good, #16's and smaller. Been catching a lot of trout on caddis, adams, lt. cahills, and we are still having some nice B.W.O. hatches. tricos are just starting. we have been getting fish on sow bugs, scuds, burlaps, and small olive, and black woolybuggers. Soft hackles are good sometimes, I always carry a few, they can be good in the afternoons. Most flies I fish here at the park will be #16's and smaller, except in the summer, when the beetles and hoppers are out and about, then big #10's are what I like to fish.

yes you are just a bit late on that news I don't know how long it has been since the C&R release a lunker program has been going on, but it has been some time I've got patches that date back to the early 80's and I think it was going on before that. You have to take a witness to the hatchery with you to verify the fish was 18" + and was released unharmed. Both the catcher and the witness have to sign a form.

If you do bring a minnow trap, do not trap minnows in the park, is not legal to trap minnows or crayfish inside the park. Not sure if glass is ok or not, I always use a wire minnow trap.

Powerbait eggs would be a good choice, attach a small barrel swivel to the 6lb line, above the swive a 1/16 worm weight is a good choice, attach 24-30" of 2lb maxima or any other quality tippet material, 7X or 6X will work if you have either. attach a #12 salmon egg hook to the 2lb line and buy some white, brown or flo. orange powerbait eggs. Put one egg on the hook, taking care to cover the hook completly do not leave the point or the eye exposed, throw the rig right along the edge of a current, let it sink to the bottom and make the kids wait untill something pulls on the line. This method works great up by the hatchery, where the water is deep and there are several places where there is a good current comming out of the hatchery. Good luck.

Babler's Talk In Springfield Tonight
timsfly replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Bill is very interesting to hear speak, I learned a few things about table rock, that I really hadn't even thought of before, but he is full of good info. The rods and baits he had were great to, it is always good to see the colors and rigs other guys are using. Thanks for the bumper sticker and the hat Phil. Thanks for all the helpful hints last night Bill. -
If you are an Alltel customer, you'll have full power on your phone, the tower was activated the last week in feb. It was off today for most of the day, doing some work on it already I guess, but it was back on when I left this evening.

Thank you very much, I've had a good B-day and lots of friends always help. Lots of people down today and there have been some good fish caught biggest I've heard of was a 10 1/2 lb rainbow.

it is a snowing but I don't think we have more than an inch or so on the ground, but it is cold. but the MDC stocked over 7500 trout and there were several in the river, so the guys that can fish in the cold are going to do well.

Well you have to go further than the old dam to get below the park. There is about a mile of water below the dam that is closed all winter. The fishing starts at the conservation area, about a mile or so past the nature center, you can park in the conservation area and walk down to the river and fish downstream, all year long. Just need your trout stamp and fishing permit.

there has been a lot of people fishing below the park, no fishing in the park tomorrow, got to wait untill the 1st of march But come down and take a trip below the park, had a guy bring in a 7lb brown yesterday, he caught it on a big woolybugger.

they finished dredging in the river this morning. They dredgin will continue up above the river in the dry creek bed above the hatchery, to try to keep the gravel from filling up the river so fast during the next few floods we are bound to get Hey Tim- I thought I would send you a couple of pictures in case you want to post them. MDC crews are currently working on the first hole—the last place in the stream for gravel and silt removal—they should be done with it today and will move up to Roaring River Hollow to clean that area out so to keep more gravel form moving into the river. That work may not be finished before Mar 1 but will not affect water conditions or fishing. The other picture is of Chris Landstad stocking some nice lunkers- 5lb plus for opening day. Let me know if you have any questions. Jerry Dean

Yes Don, I had a good day. Caught a few, the weather was great.
-
looks like you had a grand time, I think it would have been a great time. Didn't appear the fish were bothered by the cold, did you catch em all deep ?
-
Were you in the small truck parked above the bridge, I think it was a red/white S-10? I was going to fish in the park, but I went on down and fished the area below the dairy farm.
-
Nice looking rainbow, what did he catch it on ?

Thank you

Great fishing all week at the park, the nice weather really made it nice, good caddis hatches on sat and sunday really made for some good dry fly fishing, and the fish we caught on griffiths gnats I mean we caught dozens of nice rainbows this week on griffiths gnats and blue wing olives, it was one of the better weekends of the season so far for dry fly fishing. I did have to fish 7X anytime I was fishing dries, but when fishing nymphs I use 6X fluorocarbon and did just fine, and when fishing bigger streamers I did use some 5X and even some 4X on friday. With the melting snow the water has come up a bit, but it has reamained very clear and has only come up few inches so far. Pheasant tails, copper johns, sow bugs, small furbugs, burlaps, zebra midges and small brassies caught fish all weekend, micro eggs did very well also. Alot of people were having luck on the chamois worm, tread jigs in white, and olive grubs, along with oregon cheese, apricot surpreme and lt. roe egg patterns. I saw a few people fishing spinners didn't see anybody catching any, but the fish were chasing them. I did see a few fellows fishing small spoons with a bit of feather tied to them, and they were catching a lot of fish in the deeper runs. They were single hook spoons Next week is it, for the C&R season, I want to apologize for anybody I might have told it was the 16th, I had called the hatchery a few times and they had told me the 16th once and once told me the second weekend, I took that as the 16th, but I was wrong, so sorry if anybody was thinking of comming down that weekend. Anyway should be a good weekend to close it down, the water is in great shape, still lots of eagles around and the fish are still very active, come down and enjoy the last one, good luck where ever you may fish.

duckydoty, I caught it in the afternoon, I didn't see your car when I came back from the shop, maybe you were downstream, I caught it right up by the hatchery, that little hole always has some good dry fly fishing in the afternoons. Catman, I started right there by the bridge by the hatchery, I fished there till about 3:30 and headed home.

Water is in good shape, it has come up a bit but not much and was very clear when I left at 3:30, fishing was pretty good today, caught a nice 4lber this morning on a bunny bug and a few down at dry hollow on a chamois worm. I broke out my new (new to me) Orvis Mighty mite bamboo fly rod 5' of fun, I wanted to break it in using a dry fly, the trout were rising real good up by the hatchery. I put on a small reel I had in the car, I think it had a 5wt fly line on it, and put me on a 9' leader a #18 griffiths gnat and had a good time, caught 5 on the griffiths gnat, and then I put on a small micro egg, in yellow and caught another 5 or 6 before calling a day, this was the biggest on the griffiths gnat, he was a blast to catch on the small bamboo fly rod, and he was #3 the first two were about 1/2 the size o this one if you laid both of them end to end.
