  1. THAT is where I messed up with the fast moving videos. I shot the Butt Monkey and the Circus Peanut last night and held the materials in front of the camera for a while for each material. These started off kind of out of necessity as the first one I did was of a fly that literally takes 30 minutes to tie and you can't upload a 30 minute video to youtube....so I sped it up and got all sorts of cool reviews on it. So the upcoming Galloup series will be in fast motion, but I will be holding the materials in front of the camera so everyone can see what they are as I go. Almost melted my camera last night though......those lights are HOT!! Here is the first video:
  2. Duly noted gents! For the record, the music in any of my videos, funny enough, is never music you will find in my cd player......I just realized that.
  3. I kid you not....I typed in "How-To Fly Tying" on youtube and that was the first one I clicked on. I thought I got lucky.
  4. Thanks guys! I hit a point where I was sick to death of listening to a mono-tone fly tyer wrapping thread on a hook for 10 minutes telling me how to palmer hackle.....b.o.r.i.n.g. Most of my tying videos are meant for those who already know how to tie and don't want to watch a video for 10 minutes to see how to tie something that would take them 3 minutes. Don't take them as a "how-to" style video. Hey Wrench....gonna cover the whole Galloup line of streamers (well, the good ones at least) in this style over the winter. I figured they would be cool in this style too. Maybe I need to try doing one of these in Slow-Motion.
  5. Good pal Randy Hanner tying his great carp/smallmouth pattern...The Wedding Crasher
  6. The song is "Sail" by Awolnation. It's one of those mellow "fire-me-up" kind of songs....very cool.
  7. Wow......having to watch out for heavy machinery in my backcast isn't something I can say I have ever worried about. That is crazy.
  8. Thanks guys!
  9. There is NOTHING cliche about SUBLIME!!! (Thanks for playing along)
  10. I was waiting to be called out on how cliche the song is....but I was waiting with this reply..... "There is NOTHING cliche about SUBLIME!!" and then I would have cranked "Wrong Way"
  11. Hey guys, Here is the Summer video....pretty awesome Summer. I fished with a LOT of friends, guided a bit, watched my eldest become a 'real' fly fisherman catching fish on his own in the NFOW and then deciding he likes to throw streamers (is it weird that I am more proud of him throwing streamers than catching fish in the NFOW??) and I got video of the biggest brown I have ever shot video of since I started making these things....so cool.
  12. EXACTLY!! It is almost a marketing tool in itself being short....
  13. Honestly....I 'fib' on my height so much it makes up for me calling fish shorter than what I really think they are. That evens itself out doesn't it?
  14. Another subject we have to cover every-so-often..... I'm not taking any offense here...and being called "bubba" actually makes me feel better about myself (it makes my 5'8" stature a little 'taller' in my own mind and I will take everything I can get ) I usually don't say anything unless I can 100% back it up...and you can bet when I post a fish on here the number of inches I "actually" post are lower than what they really are--I learned my lesson years ago. But I would be willing to bet that Spring Creek produces more wild fish from our fish running up it (when they can, it is a barren wasteland with no water and has been that way for a couple of years now)to spawn than escapees actually making it to the NFOW. You can equate stockers to the guys that fish the outlets at Taney....stockers get thrown in (especially rainbows as they are crazy-stupid) and they stay there. The outlet guys at Taney have only ever fished the outlets and when they go fishing it doesn't matter that there is a WHOLE river......they go to the outlets and fight each other http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30873 . I wouldn't give rainbows that much credit, stocker or not...they are stupid and like bright, shiny stuff. Have you ever seen the movie "Up"........SQUIRREL!!
  15. A guide showed us around on the first day and everything he showed us was flats/weedbeds. After DAYS of no looks (besides from non-committing Pike) we talked to some other people and started fishing islands.....that was the last day of fishing we had and all 3 of us either got an eat or an explosion by the boat. Figures, we find them on the last day we were there..........
  16. Lake Ver’ making a Million Casts. Thinking back on Lake Vermillion... Musky fishing can be equated with an adventure race. In a race there are parts where the course is smooth and comfortable. Then, there are places that hurt! Both happened on Lake V. For the first two days it was up hill but smooth. We were casting, enjoying the new sites sounds, and smells of the North Woods, it was great. It was amazing to watch the sky full of the mountainous clouds billowing and grand. The loons called lazily over the north woods water and there were dozens of bald eagles. North woods eagles were like buzzards in Ozark County, everywhere. Yet by day three the hurt broke the surface. Brian manages to impale a giant purple popper in his shoulder. We all know Brian can cast 107’ feet like he was brushing his hair, but this cast made me cringe as a gust of wind crumpled it. THHWAAACK! Have you ever taken a 2/0 hook sunk to the bend in yourfriend’s shoulder? We managed to remove it and what did we do, kept casting. Thoughts of “Why are we still here?” “God, if I just catchone I’ll end my musky career right now”, “This is starting to get ridiculous”Thoughts that never cross a fly fishing guide’s mind begin to take over. Soonyou cast out of desperation to catch THAT fish, knowing that, the next castwill be “the one”. And it is! The next cast that you place right in the meatslot, watch it hang slowly, thinking “that is the one”. Then you notice castingslack is in the trolling motor right as big head comes out from under the logand chews your fly like laffy taffy. While your falling out of the boat to setthe hook… That is when IT happens… THAT is when your chance comes, and goes, like THAT! The high that comes with musky fishing is also in similarityto a race finish. The adrenaline of hooking a fish as long as your leg matchesand perhaps surpasses that jolt of knee buckling energy that hits at the finishline of a long and exciting race. That’s on your next cast though. Not this one. Try again… Fish are the excuse to adventure into the wilderness, butthey end up only a sliver of the story. We gain much more than a “grip andgrin” when we set out with friends into unimaginable adventures. There is nothing in this world with as much value as good friends. (Report by Kyle Kosovich. 17. Makes sense....and I figured that was the case. We just simply don't catch 'that' many fish that have their tail clipped after MDC shocks, and lets face it we see one or two fish caught through October.
  18. Ok guys, help me wrap my tiny brain around something..... MDC (and Justin) shocked the NFOW earlier this month and the fish they counted had their tails clipped so they wouldn't be counted a second time during the next shocking.........we have caught a TON of fish since the shocking and only 1 of those fish had their tail clipped. It is obvious that the numbers aren't meant to be "exact" but does MDC add a certain percentage of "missed fish" to their numbers or do they go with the exact numbers they actually shock, measure, clip, and release?
  19. Also, since Phil showed interest in that video I sent him the link and told him about our little trip so I hope to see the Chippewa video on there sometime too.
  20. Thanks! I can't take all the credit for this series of videos though....Aaron Scott had a lot to do with them too. Between his gear and general skills behind a camera and me stumbling through videos with tons of luck we got some pretty good footage.
  21. Here are some of Aaron Scott's photos from the Chippewa:
  22. You haven't seen the Summer re-cap video yet.
  23. Thanks for the kind words guys, this was technically the best video I have ever edited and got pretty excited the first time I watched it. After getting a little taste of "real" hardcore fishing on the Chippewa we started to get an idea of what it takes to catch these things....or really target them anyway. Swinging 10 wts as hard as we could (or as hard as we thought was possible until we hit Lake Vermillion) for 2 days was pretty awesome in itself. The funny thing was that the casting didn't bother me at all but I wasn't used to stripping that hard and that strongly for that amount of time.....I never want to hear "Boy we had a rough day of stripping streamers for trout" ever....again. Working on the Lake Vermillion video as I type this....should have it done by this time next week.
  24. Like Justin said, we see them now and then on the NFOW. I hadn't seen one in a few years (and have only seen 2 in my life) but I was guiding Saturday......like 4 days after they hit the endangered species list and saw one on the river, ironic timing. Got some photos with the underwater camera, but didn't have my underwater video camera unfortunately.
