  1. Hey guys, Have been messing with the Copic Airbrush System for a couple of months....this thing is very cool and a lot of fun.
  2. Thanks! I usually use Medium Sized Lead Eyes for all of the Galloup Patterns. The Popper Heads kind of depend on the manufacturer, but the ones in the video are Medium as well.
  3. Hey guys, About a year ago I made a video of my youngest boy pulling his tooth with a bow and arrow. A couple of months ago I got a call from a production studio in Hollywood wanting to talk about Carter's Tooth Pull Video. Thinking it was a total joke, I didn't say much about it. Then, I got a call asking me to upload it to Dropbox....then I thought "Ok, they probably won't air it". THEN I get an email saying "The episode of TruTV's Top Funniest featuring your video will air May13" So I guess this is happening. If you have TruTv be sure to watch the Top Funniest tonight at 8 p.m. If you haven't seen the video and don't have TruTV (like us) here it is....
  4. Southern Culture on the fly asked me to do another tying video for their Spring issue. I thought it would be cool to kick off the Grajewski series with a double-Grajewski-day. So here is the video I made for Southern Culture on the Fly. When you get a chance check out the issue, best one yet in my opinion. Recipe: Rear Hook - Gamaktsu B10s #2 Tail/Wing - Rabbit Strip Body - Estaz Hackle - Schlappen Rubber Legs Front Hook - Gamakatsu Worm Hook #1/0 Body - Rabbit Strip Hackle - Schlappen Body 2 - Deer Hair Head - Popper Head (reversed)
  5. Hey guys, after I finished the Nick Granato series I thought I would cover the other half of the Fly Obsession duo.....Matt Grajewski. Recipe: Rear Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #2 Tail - Schlappen Rear Body/Tail - Marabou Hackle #1 - Polar Chenille Hackle #2 - Schlappen Body - Ice Wing Fiber (or estaz, etc) Rubber-Legs Middle Hook - Gamakatus B10s #1 Filler - Marabou Hackle #1 - Polar Chenille Hackle #2 - Schlappen Body - Ice Wing Fiber Rubber Legs Front Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #1/0 Eyes - I-Balz Filler - Marabou Hackle #1 Polar Chenille Hackle #2 Schlappen Body - Ice Wing Fiber Head - Craft Fur Brush
  6. Thanks guys!! The people at Allen are really cool. Looking forward to speaking to TU in Tulsa, DaddyO, will you be there?
  7. Speaking of......what are you doing this week, Justin?
  8. Hey guys, I will be doing a Streamer Seminar tomorrow evening (Friday, March 14) at 7:00 at the Springfield Library on South Campbell in Springfield. Will be covering gear, rigging, flies, techniques, and answering questions. Super laid-back format. See you there!
  9. I have heard the same. No telling what is going to go down. I like the fact that we can float from James or the lower Sunburst ramp and take out at the Dawt Bridge when the stripers, hybrids, and whites are in the area.
  10. Actually, I have cut SO MANY antennae off of Pats when I cut my thread....still fish them. Drives me crazy right that second, but then I remember that fish can't count.
  11. Sean is dead on the money. I'm not going to say that there isn't 1 or 2 in the river somewhere, even below the Dawt Dam, but I haven't seen them in a long time. We usually do get a good push of fish this time of year if the rivers were to push some water....we are set up with a REALLY saturated watershed so if we were to get a big rain, watch out.
  12. I had an extra 30 seconds this morning so I thought I would introduce the "SS-Minnow" (the idiot tyer forgot the bead though....because he sucks). Obviously, in the water it would look and fish completely different than a Sparkle Minnow and fish are completely smart enough to tell the difference in the two patterns (mostly because I forgot the bead). Did I lay the smartassery on thick enough, Wrench?
  13. So the Sparkle Minnow is solid enough of a pattern by itself that it can have a spin - off that is considered "sub-standard"? Hilarious.
  14. I think a Laser Dub head would be pretty cool on this pattern. I have to say, I think Polar Chenille is probably my favorite product right now. If I tied 'regular' Woolies anymore, I would have a Marabou tail and Polar Chenille body...that's it.
  15. That'll hunt. Don't forget about smallies for that one.
  16. They are beads from Hobby Lobby.....I had bought my grandma a bunch of really cool glass beads for her to do crafts with (the whole time I was thinking "MAN these are awesome") and when she passed away a couple of months ago the beads that she hadn't used yet came back to me. Pretty cool. These are actually some beads that are strung on a wire, I think you they come in 25 per string and are something like $3.75. Pretty pricey for fly tying---but they are really nice.
  17. 7/8 of that float is concentrated trout water.....not saying we don't catch smallmouth from Kelly to the lake, but nothing like above Rainbow Spring. I think the only simple answer to your question, Andy is above Rainbow Spring. On good water Hebron to Kelly is what I would call the best smallmouth water on the river.
  18. Ha, she is AWESOME. She is my niece and 1 of 5 kids......and she ended up with ALL the personality out of all of them. Thanks guys!
  19. A medium sized streamer with a full body....easy to tie, and the color combinations are endless. Recipe: Rear Hook Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #2 Tail - Marabou Body - UV Polar Chenille Wing - Rabbit Strip Sili-Legs - Front Hook: Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #1 Eyes - Aluminum See Eyes or I-Balz Body - Polar Chenille Wing - Rabbit Strip Sili-Legs
  20. It completely depends on the water. When water is "prime" (and this isn't a certain CFS, it is a certain color because 1000 cfs that has been falling out for a week is a totally different color than 1000 cfs that is still rising) we catch a lot of bigger fish somewhere pretty close to fast water, or right in it. Fast water with a skinny seam against the bank is pretty prime, but the biggest fish we have caught have pretty much all came from tailouts where it starts to get deeper below the riffle.
  21. The hole in the Dam has eroded a little more with every high water event we have had since it breached.....Which is just fine with me.
  22. It is hunting. You have to look for the best conditions if you can only fish the river every now and then. You don't go to the White and 'expect' to hang a 26" brown on low generation....no difference here. Since November, we have averaged around 400 CFS with 2 spikes of water. We 'do' catch big fish on low water but they are few and far between......but when we get spikes of good, colored water (like we have had recently) we do---and it was retarded last weekend. The river is stocked with browns from Blair down. From Blair up hasn't been stocked with anything in almost 50 years. That is why you will catch more NUMBERS of browns on the lower section. But even stockers move and if we get a rise after a stocking we have seen numbers of stocker browns even above the Falls (not very often though).
  23. A few years ago some of you may remember a fly called the Pole Dancer. I will never forget watching the video introducing this crazy-awesome topwater fly.....THE answer to the Zara Spook for fly fisherman. With this kind of funky head that was shaped like nothing you could by (at the time) I thought they would release the head for the fly tying masses, but it never happened. When the Pole Dancer hit the market (released by Umpqua) it rang it at a staggering $19.00 PER FLY.....for the SMALLEST VERSION, and $25.00 for the larger. Crazy. Fast-Forward about a year and Cascade Crest releases a kit called the "DC Dodger Kit". Everything you need to tie 6 or 8 Pole Dancers (except they had to change the name, obviously) for $15.00. There are some steps involved with this......fair warning. http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/lateral-line/2013/12/money-bugs-dc-dodger-0
