FINALLY, Day Four is up. Brian
-
Ness, They make them that will hold an SLR and also video cameras...they are pretty cool and SUPER easy to get level even on streambanks, rocks, anything. I am sold on them for fishing stuff. Brian

Actually, I took it myself. I got a gorillapod when I got my Stylus 850. It works great if you do a little practicing of taking pictures of yourself before you hit the river. Set the timer to 5 seconds beforehand, set up camera while fighting the fish (THAT is where it gets tricky, have lost a couple of decent fish while doing this...but it saves time) hit the shutter before you pick the fish up and wait on the beep...lift fish up and smile. I've actually seen it take longer for 2 people to do it. The bad thing is it can be a little tricky on the focus...that is why this photo is edited a little "funky." Brian

Actually Tim, we are talking about doing it again this year....or something like it. As for the camera work and editing, we really didn't get as much footage as we wanted, but I think what we 'did' get tells at least part of the story. And the Editing....yeah, it would have taken someone who knew what they were doing NO TIME to put this together I'm sure. Like I have said before, it was a ton of fun, we fished a LOT more than we both figured we would, and we honestly came away from the trip with not 'really' a sense of accomplishment but more like a bigger appreciation for what we have right here in MISSOURI! Video for Day 3:
-
Hey guys, Was able to hit the river on the 7th. It was my first 'real' fishing trip of the year. The day set up perfect for good fishing, complete cloud cover and the water was a gorgeous green...and the fish cooperated! Had a great few hours of fishing. Caught some browns, caught some rainbows but got into a nice rainbow that was one acrobatic fish. 18" of beauty.... Brian

Video for Day Two: Brian

Hey guys, Tucker wrote the reports and they are up on Ozark Chronicles. I hate to link an external site from OA but that is the easiest thing to do. Here are the reports: Click Here For Reports Here is the link to the Day One Video: Edit: I figured out how to post the link so it will take you directly to the High Quality video instead of clicking on "Watch in high quality"...now it will take you directly to the best quality video. The Epic Trip...a Video Montage

FFM, It was fun...a ton of fun. The thing is that it wasn't as "rough" as I personally thought it would be--tiring, YES. I am looking forward to doing it again. Brian -
The Epic Trip...a Video Montage

That is a freaky laugh isn't it! While editing that you play stuff over and over to get the frames right...my wife and kids probably heard that laugh 150 times--nightmares ensued. Brian -
The Epic Trip...a Video Montage

He does now. Phil, We shot in HD. We are editing in Power Director and rendering to MP2 format. If the way you render your video offers high quality or HD quality when you upload to youtube it will automatically have that little link that either says "Watch in high quality" or the new "Watch in HD" The files that we have ended up being HUGE so I haven't figured out a way to render it small enough to post on youtube and have the "Watch in HD" quality. I am pretty happy with the quality when you watch it in high quality but it still doesn't compare to the video when it is in full quality. I am editing day by day so there will be a Day One, Day Two, Day Three, and Day Four. The first day ended up being 8 gigs the first time I rendered it, that was an AVI file. I am going to have to mess around to see what format I can get to fit on a DVD. By the way, I can't find the option to embed the video into the post...am I missing something? Also, to answer a question that has been asked more than once. We aren't going to try to sell this or anything like that. We basically knew that either way this trip idea was super cool and we wanted to get some stuff on video. Brian -
Hey guys, First of all I have to appologize about not getting written reports done. As of now Tucker is doing the written reports and I am editing video....and both are almost done. I threw together a montage of the whole trip taking you through 20 trout streams in about 1:39 (For the best quality click on "Watch in high quality" to the bottom-right of the video screen....for sure DO THIS if you have the bandwith.) Hey Zach who is the coach now? I have to agree with you, when I am Czech Nymphing I will not be using true Czech nymphs the vast majority of the time. Speaking of hot spot patterns, have you fished a certain hot spot Hare's Ear yet? I am seriously thinking about tying a box of Psycho Princes and nothing but Psycho Princes. I can honestly say that it was the best producer for the trip we took over Thanksgiving.....when a fish takes one and is broken off on the hook-set just to take another Psyco Prince not 10 minutes later it has to be a good fly. Out of 20 trout streams that weekend it probably took fish on 14 or 15 of them. Brian

He looks like he is 10 years old..... I WILL be there next year, looks like a great time. Brian

The drive home was uneventful. Listening to late-night talk radio about how a certain author would fix the current economic problems by sending astronauts to Mars--it was entertaining. Gavin, I saw your office and now know where you are, but more importantly 'why' you are where you are, you are super close to the fly shop! Brian -

Sorry I didn't wear my name badge, they didn't give me one! Seriously though, it was great to meet a couple more guys from OA. Wish I could have talked to you guys a little longer but had a few people to talk to. Had a great time with OFF. Brian -
Thanksgiving Massive Road Trip
Brian Wise replied to Brian Wise's topic in General Angling Discussion
We actually fished the Niangua, went to Bennett to knock it out...and then came back to the Niangua to fish it until we either froze or HAD to get back on the road. It was sweet! Brian -

The meeting is at Queeny Park at 7. Looking forward to putting a few more faces with names! It'll be a different program than I have ever done since the majority of the OFF members know the North Fork of the White quite a bit. We'll cover Czech Nymphing the river and Tactics for Big Fish as well. Brian -

Cool!!! I figured we were bound to run into someone from the board. We ended up doing well at the Niangua, and actually pretty much fell in love with it. The drift boat will be going up that way soon, hopefully. The report is coming I promise, just a lot of info and photos to go through. Brian -
Looks like we probably missed you guys by a little bit. I can't remember what time we got to Jolly Mill but we were the only car there. It was my first time there and it was perfect in the snow...gorgeous. Caught 1 rainbow right below the dam on a Dynamite Worm dropped off of a Red Fox Squirrel Nymph. Brian

No kidding, we fished a whole lot more than what I first thought we would be able to. Did we fish as much as we 'really' wanted to, probably not, but that just spurred us on to get back to those rivers or creeks that we really enjoyed. Without giving too much away I think I can say for the both of us that we came away from this trip with more than we thought we would. Brian -

You bet it counted! We at least got takes at all but 2.....which is way more than I expected. VERY productive. There is only one missing and we didn't want to go to boot camp to be able to fish a meat market. Brian -
Hey guys, Matt Tucker (www.ozarkchronicles) and I went on a seriously big road-trip over the long Thanksgiving weekend. We ran into a few people we knew and told them a little about it and we were greeted with a lot of comments like "AWESOME!!" and the inevitable "WOW!!!" We have a lot of photos and video to run through so give us a little time on the full report or photo essay but I do have a little trailer that pretty much tells what we did--if you pay attention. Thanks so much to all of those who helped...you know who you are and you will be remembered and immortalized. Here is the link (if you can click on the "watch in high quality" in blue under the video) Brian
