Matt it doesnt have to get down that deep 6-10 feet will do bill had a good idea to throw the rouge I like husky jerks shad colors this can be extremely productive if there is some chop on the water, i wouldn't even bother throwing it if the water is glassed over. Also try a hair jig brown and orange or shad colored over the bluff trees suspended with a weighted bobber and hang on you can catch some giant smallies this time of year sounds unconventional but it works

I was fishing chunk rock and bluff banks I was graphing the fish in about 6ft of water suspended over about 13-15, I don't think the fish would have bit a jig unless you were swimming it, they were just suspended but who knows what could change. Another good bait to throw which I didn't try would be a spinner bait with big willow blades 5-7 in size, I think those bigger blades would slow the bait down and match the shad size might give it a thought. Well I will be working all weekend so keep me posted on your trip Yeah I do go to MSU that sound good

hey put in today at beaver creek marina for the first time and fished up towards barkers hole. Started out throwing a suspending jerk bait caught a few nice bass (largemouth). Trolled a rock walker with a floating jig head and shiner caught 3 walleye all less than 18 inches. Talked to some people fishing the bank at barkers hole said they had been there for agout 5 hours and not a bite. kept getting hung up trolling so I started throwing the jerk bait again, got some cloud cover and wind and the bite was on, ended up catching about a dozen more largemouth with the biggest going about 5 and a half lbs. Well wish I would have caught some keeper walleye for dinner but oh well. I threw back all the bass I only keep kentuckies but they were fun.

Talking about not eating whites cause their fishy, I always soak mine in sprite or mountain dew for awhile after trimming off all the red meat (oil glands) it takes the fishy taste out and also gives the fillets a bit of a sweet flavor
-
Well I guess I will have to try and fillet them the next time I always thought that the texture of the meat would fall apart or crumble without the skin

January 19, 2006 Stockton Lake Fishing Report

I was wondering if you had any info on what some people call the mud flats, and another place called the old rock quarry I tried to locate them on a map but could not find the specifics I am trying to target some walleye and wondered if you had any info -
I am wondering if anyone has any info on any upcoming bass tournaments on any of the lakes around here, I moved to the area from poplar bluff this june I work as a registered nurse at st. johns in springfield and attend MSU working towards a degree in anesthesia, I love to fish and would like to get into the local tournament scene, if anyone has any info please let me know

I was wondering has anyone heard of filleting trout I had someone tell me about it and couldn't say I had ever heard of it, if so how exactly is it done, I usually just clean my fish leaving them whole. I was also wondering if anyone has any new recipies they would like to share. My brother and I fished below fall creek saturday w/ our flyrods drifting midges around moss pockets caught about 30 fish from 2-5pm lots of 12-14 inch fish with a couple over 17, kept the smaller fish to eat and threw back the big big boys boat traffic was bad and my brother almost took a dive off the back of the boat when wake from another boat caught him the wrong way in the middle of his backcast ( absolutely hillarious) well wont get back on the water for about another week and a half with school and work taking priorities but keep me posted

I also think berkley vanish is probably your best bet as far as quality and price go thats what I always use.
-
As for fishing line where you fish and what water conditions should dictate what you use. I like flourocarbon because it's less visable to fish I use 6lb on my spinning outfits and 10-12lb on my baitcasters. As for something abrasion resistant flourocarbon is already by nature very abrasion resistant so thats your best bet stick with the lighter smaller diameter lines

Yeah I fished last saturday also throwing suspending jerks and swimmin minnows striking out on the walleye but I knew it was gonna be a tough day. I did graph a ton of suspended fish 8-10 foot deep perfect for a rougue bite but they were just turned off by that high pressure front that was passing. I am having trouble making my mind up where I wanna go bullshoals or stockton man tough decisions huh.
-
hey I was wondering if anyone has heard of any recent walleye reports my classes have started up again at MSU and I don't have as much time to do my own research any reports for upper bullshoals would be great

I was wondering does anyone ever fish a float and hair jig for smallmouth during the winter. I know what you are thinking that this sounds like a crappie presentation but it works. Take a 7' spinning rod with 6lb flourocarbon line for the clear waters of tablerock position yourself over the bluff areas and watch your electronics targeting those suspended fish. I like a brown 1/16 hair jig with orange eyes or a white with a little sparkle. I usually position my jig about 6-8 feet below my weighted float, cast towards the bluff or standing timber it works great if there is some chop on the water. Work the jig very slow letting the chop on the water provide most of the action and hang on you might be suprised and don't count out catching a white or crappie mixed in. This is probably a well known trick on TR but I thought I would pass it on I use it on greers ferry and it works great

I understand the source of your frustration as I tried my best to get minnows and crawlers on saturday. I visited three baitshops on my way to bullshoals and all were closed two of them said they were to be open at 830 and it was 900 when I stopped and no one was open. I guess in the future I will have to find some other means of obtaining bait

I am going to be putting in at k dock to fish for walleye I am coming from springfield and am new to the are are there any bait shops close to forsyth or around k dock where I can pick up crawlers and minnows

Thats an excellent point as fisherman and outdoorsman we should remember to be understanding to all poeple and if we want to try and teach people more effective forms of conservation are best bet is by example
