Please leave the asinine comments off this forum. There is no need for it. To the rest of the folks here, thanks for the information. I simply asked two valid questions. Is there any truth to this rumor? If so, approximately how many died? How hard was that to answer? I can come to my own conclusions on if I want to come down and fish based on good answers. Also, alot of the USA had major fish die-offs this summer due to the heat. Why waste a weekend off, waste $100 on lodging, $40 on food, money on an out of state fishing license, and $160 on gas? Would if I was flying in from South Africa? Would you make the same comments?

I have not fished the area up by the dam in a number of years for browns in the fall and was wondering if it was worth it to come over this year and fish for some trophy caliber brown trout. I've heard that there was a large die-off of the browns last fall due to the floods and the water being too warm. Is there any truth to this rumor? If so, approximately how many died? I'd love to go, but I don't really want to waste the 4hr drive this coming weekend if the fishing is not worth it. Thanks.

Looks like the White River is going to lose it's title. It's about time my home state produced a fish this size. I always knew it was possible. http://www.ludingtondailynews.com/news.php?story_id=45793

Personally, I would use pull fastener style rivets, some aluminum sheet metal, and something to seal the repair such as RTV or silicone.

Not really interested in quantity these days. All about the quality!

So I'm finally gettting back into my fishing game and I'd like to go after trout on Taney this weekend and some smallies somewhere yet undetermined. I assume that the night bite is the usual for this time of year on Taney for trout? What's happening during the daytime? Terrestrials mostly? Also, can anyone recommend a good river to wade fish for smallies during the day? I'll be chasing smallies and trout with the flyrod probably exclusively. I'll be coming from the St. Louis area, so anything between there and Branson would be great. Also, any predictions on what's gonna happen this fall for the brown trout run? Last year was a bust due to the warm water from what I saw and heard. Hopefully I'll get to know some Saint Louis folks here on this site to fish with eventually, depending on how long I'm living in the area. So far, so good.

I recently moved to Fairview Heights, Illinois near St. Louis, Missouri. Besides Bass Pro and Cabelas, what Fly Shops and flyfishing oppurtunities are there in the St. Louis, MO area? I'm also looking for fishing partners. Primarily trout, steelhead, crappie, bluegills and sunfish, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, pike and musky. I'm also looking for deer and turkey hunting partners. Being new to the area, I don't have anyone to hunt and fish with yet. Thanks.

Well, with this weather, I've decided to postpone my trip to the following weekend. We'll see what happens.

Okay, so I've planned a little mini-trip down to Taneycome for Oct 3-5. Does it look like they will still be releasing water heavily by then or will the area be fishable? I was going to go to the clave down in Mountain Home that weekend, but I've since changed my plans to Tnaeycomo to keep my costs down. Thanks!

I guess it depends on the traffic ... but if you go through the swing and have a fly on the dangle 90' downriver, it might tick off a person or two if you taking up 90' of rivers edge to fish. P.S. I'll have my switch rods down there this fall as well.

I'm defintely game for meeting up and playing with the Spey rods. I'm sure we won't be well liked cracking those out there. I've got a 14-ft Spey and I've used it some in Michigan, but I need to practice more before I go to the PNW and Alaska. I'm not sure what you are using, but I've got a Skagit set-up currently. Definitely fun to play with as long as they run some water! Now that I've been stuck in Kansas for a few years, it's hard to practice and use the spey.

Just trying to recall the general run timing and fishable water levels .... I plan on fishing quite a few weekends. Also, what flies (nymphs, streamers) do you guys typically use? Or hardware for that matter? I really want to crack the Spey rod during the day .... is this a possibly venture or are there too many people around? I know the info is availibel in some old threads ... but woring OT, pursuing my masters degree, etc really cuts into my time. Thanks!

Just curious if Taney is typically packed on Labor Day weekend (day or night). I might swing on over .....

Please send some pics to tim.j.simons@hotmail just of the damage. Assuming the latches are working properly, there is nothing major, and the keys are provided (if it has these type of locks), I'll take it. That's if you'll ship to Wichita, KS. Let me know and thanks! -
Hey Leonard, It's good to be back. I just wish gas cost a bit less so I could be more of a regular. I'm working on a plan though to move to a better area of fishing besides Kansas. I hope to see you some time this fall. Jeremy, Thanks for the information, I had forgot about your website. I've fished that stretch of the Norfork before, but it was with two drunks, so needless to say, it was the worst fishing trip I ever had and I never fished with those guys again. I am so itching to get back down to Arkansas this fall as well. We'll see what happens with school and deer hunting. Once I wrap up my MBA in February, I'm bound for Yellowstone and Alaska next year! Thanks! Tim

So I'll finally be making it back to Taneycomo this fall after over a year hiatus. I'll of course be fishing for the browns and bows near the outlets, but I was also looking for other general areas to fish for trout on those weekends. Be it by wading or float tube, on the White River or maybe some other tribs. I would prefer trout, but if you have some other good recommendations for pike/musky or smallmouth, that would be great as well. Just looking for other stuff to do. Me and monotony don't get along too well ....

Hi folks, I'd possibly like to hunt in MO for turkeys this spring for the first time. I've already wrapped up my KS season and would like to explore some other states. I would prefer to have someone to hunt with, but will go it alone if I have to. Can anyone here point me in a good direction for some public land areas to try? That is unless you are gracious enough to allow me to hunt private land, but that's your call. Thanks!

Coming Down Saturday Wondering About Trolling
Wrath replied to hawkeye's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
You can get them all over the Great lakes area. They are made by Luhr Jensen and you can probably find them online. -
So what is this "Catch Fish Classic" derby anyways? I was planning on coming that weekend ... but if the traffic will be worse on the river I won't bother.
-
Nice catch! Both the lady and the fish! I hope you released the fish though cause I want to catch that badboy in a few weeks!

Price drop!

duckydoty and Leonard, it was nice meeting you guys and I appreciate the info. I ended up leaving this morning after I got up and that was good thing. It rained most of the way back to Wichita and alot of roads were impassable due to flooding!

Who are the night-fishing big trout gurus here?
Wrath replied to Wrath's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Mike, By mindset I mean I don't want to necesarily bring all my Michigan habits with me and waste my time using all of them for a different fishery. I'm used to wild trout with no hatchery supplements. Our big trout in the rivers up there feed on mice, chipmunks, scuplins, other trout, and crayfish mostly. I could explain further, but I am sure you get my drift. Terry, I'll have 600-watts of Evanescence on tap for Saturday night ..... ahh the young crowd Can any of you guys recommend some good BBQ in the area?
