I'll be in KC this weekend. Let's do it!

A little back story here. In high school I took Home Ec. And we had to decide on a dish, get on the bus, go to Consumers, get our ingredients, cook it, and hopefully enjoy it. Now mind you, this was not all in one day. I had no clue what I was going to make. While strumming though a magazine, there was a recipe for Cashew Chicken. It was was of those easy, quick recipes they put in with an advertisement. I think it was for a Soy sauce but after 30 some years, that tidbit escapes me. Now mind you again, I, to this point in life, had never eaten Chinese food but, I knew I didn't like it. But this was a simple, very few ingredient recipe. Just what I was looking for. So the day for preparing came. And I do. I follow the recipe exact word for word. That was to this day the most amazing Cashew Chicken I have ever in my life eaten! I judge all others by this! Even though it was almost 15 years before I had my next plate. I think about that foray into the depths of fine Chinese culinary art occasionally. I wish I would have kept that recipe, but at the time, I had no more use of it. Until tonight. Some 35 years later, I have made my second batch of Cashew Chicken. I didn't get the same punch in the mouth with fantastic flavor, but by golly it was pretty good!

Lets do it! I'm open on dates. Al, what works for you? Anyone else?

Here is a oddity for you. This was developed and made by a man in Detroit. The design was so you could quickly change colors by simply changing out the body onto the main frame. Each body had two pins that would snap into the frame. The fellow that developed this did so with the mindset of selling it to a large lure manufacturer. No manufacturers were interested in his idea and this is the only known set to still exist! I do not know the name that he had for this lure.

Ozarks Smallmouth Alliance

Tell me about it! He caught me off guard! -
Yeah he's about 30 years behind those that I learned from. They were doing this back in the 60's. I'm not saying these guys thought of it. I think most everybody thought of it themselves all across the spectrum. When your bait hits the water and you let it sit there a second, the skirt gives it life by really blooming out. There is no need for his v-shaped hanger. I've never used one and neither did my dad or others. Your skirt will not cause any action problems or prevent you from catching fish.

Ozarks Smallmouth Alliance
Chief Grey Bear replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion Archives
It was a lot of fun. Due to other commitments, I was not there very long. There was a bit of excitement though! As expected Dan and I got into a heated discussion about smallmouth and the MSA. The next thing I know, he's got me in a headlock and going to town like Ric Flair! I think Matt has photographic evidence of this! -
The OSA is hosting social get together at the Springfield Brewing Company in Springfield Missouri this afternoon starting at 4 PM. Matt and Dan from the MSA are also going to be in attendance. I will be making a special guest appearance from 4 to 6. I will be signing autographs and taking pictures with my fans at no charge. If you want to learn about fishing the rivers of the Ozarks I highly encourage you to attend.

As you all know, I really like Tadpolly's. I mean usuing them. A lot of people collect them. At this point I still use most of mine. Here are a few that like a good dog, make the trip with me every time I go. This here is one that was chrome. The finish has wore off the body but is still on the bill. It doesn't seem to bother the fish much as it still produces "bigly"! Another trick I do on some plugs is to put some pipe cleaner on the shank of the hook. In this case this is a Copper tad with gold pipe cleaner on the shank. Does it really help? I don't know but it does add a bit of bulk and flash to the hook.

I have changed some. Others I have left original. Edit: Actually, I think there is only two there that I haven't changed out.

Funny you mention that. I really need to trim it up. It's a little big for this one. That Hawaiian Wiggler is one that dad mentioned using a lot when he was younger. I've heard countless stories about them. So a few years ago I got some. They still work just as well today! Speaking of the Crazy Crawler and the Jitter Bug, I like those as apposed to the Buzzbaits because of the slower speed and the wobble action. Especially in the fall.

Some of my go to's from the good ol days. Some of these I use regularly and some I haven't used in some time. I had a couple of friends down a few weeks ago and we went to see the man that gave me my start on the rivers. He brought out an old lure that we haven't used on the river in years! I really had forgot about it. But it really got me to thinking and I'm going to start using one again this year. That being a Johnson Silver Minnow. With a skirt they are freaking deadly! Ive got a collection of a few hundred old old lures that I picked about 20 years ago from a man I knew that spent a life time on the rivers fishing and trapping. I also have a few Fenwick rods that he built back in the 70's. I used to fish them a lot but have since quit using them. I have a few glass and bamboo fly rods and bass rods I've picked up here and there. I haven't picked up many reels.

You took that out of context!

My post looks so irrelevant now.
-
I dunno. I think it's still wide open at this point.
-
Hahahaha I thought I would give him a break and leave this one alone. Hahahahaha

I've got the white version of this somewhere. These showed up in the late '70's, maybe early 80's. It seems they coincided with one of the Star Wars movies.

Are you still using any of these today? I love using the old plugs that the old rivermen used! I find it unique and very satisfying to be able to use the same plugs that were used, really over a half century ago in some cases, and still catch fish! Call me crazy or what have you but when I use these old plugs I feel a sense of connection to the early days of fishing. I love the nostalgia of using a plug that, like you say, not many, if anyone knows what they are. I still get funny looks when I bust out the Tadpolly when I fish with someone for the first time. But soon the funny looks turn to the ageless question, "Where can I get one!" Do you have a collection of old plugs? Rods? Reels? I'll get a pic later of some of the old plugs I still like to toss.

Hey that's my line!

I'm guessing these in the 30+ range. I'll bring the cast iron!

I pay $750 a year for my daughter to play about a dozen VB tourneys. Plus out of town practice 3x a week which always means dinner out too. Plus ball, shoes, uniforms. Then you start on motels, gas, tourney shirts, food, this, that,....Then we start on school VB. Theyre not expensive at all. edit; actually I think it's only 8 tourneys. Maybe 7.
