  1. Have all those crappie spawned out?
  2. Don't forget how good those bluegill taste. If they are big enough, I usually don't do C&R on them. Please don't give me a hard time about that I do C&R on most bass I catch and even on the ocassional walleye..........
  3. Probably so. The ones I catch beside the one good one a couple years ago are all about the same size.
  4. I don't fish Taney nearly as much as Trav but i usually catch about a half dozen a year also by accident while fishing for LM. Caught one about 4 lbs a couple years ago at the mouth of Bull while fishing topwaters for whites. The rest I usually catch up the creek and are usually less than two pounds.

    Snakes

I killed a 5 1/2 ft rattlesnake several years ago in Arkansas while I was squirrel hunting. It was coiled up about a 12 inches from my foot with its head up and it was not rattling. I feel no remorse for sending that snake to snake heaven. But as I get older, if they don't bother me I don't go out of my way to harm them.
  6. My 16 yr old son finally found a little time between baseball, work and girlfriend to fish with his old man this morning. We got a late start due to a motor being a little stubborn. But got out by 6am. Caught 5 fish on spooks and missed about a 100 strikes I told my son that it is not always about catching the fish but watching the blowups can be awesome. We then dropshotted and caught 8 more by the time we left at 10am. Out of these we had 5 keepers between 15-17inches. The spook fish were in the mouth of some of the larger coves and the dropshot fish were anywhere from 20-36ft around secondary points we fished. Hoping to run into some whites busting but no luck.
  7. Went yesterday out of Rockaway. Found some bluegill spawning up Bull Creek. Caught about a dozen good ones on my flyrod. while bringing one in I had about a 5lb+ bass trying to get the bluegill. He wasn't quiet fast enough. Also caught 4, as Trav calls them, sport bass, and one that was about three pounds on a buzzbait right at dark. I had just about forgot how much fun catching bluegill on a flyrod was.
  8. Everybody has "the good ole days" how Table Rock, Taneycomo, Bull Shoals and where I grew up Toledo Bend used to be. I enjoyed those days and regret that they will not return as the same on these lakes but I have learned to adapt to new techniques and in effect new lakes as they age. This has not at all affected my want of being on the water every possible minute I can be there. Just my opinion.
  9. I was out there last Thursday. We caught 12 crappie from 8-11 inches on jigs. They were in 20+ FOW. Very slow presentation with jigs. Hard to feel them pick up the bait.
  10. We fished saturday also until we got ran off by the storms. Caught 11 crappie. Most were up in the brush but a few were still out to 30 ft deep.
  11. I caught 5 crappie at Lk Springfield last week. They were either males or females that had already spawned as they sure did not have round bellies. They did have a bunch of the little "pepper" spots on all their fins. I am not a fan of this parasite so all were released. I have caughta lot of white bass on fellows but never any hybrids.
  12. Troll for walleye during the summer and catch alot of Kentuckies out in the middle of "nowhere" usually good fish too.
  13. zander, you swan in the RED River??? I grew up in Shreveport on the RED and that was a nasty river most of the time. It is much better these days.
  14. Checked today and found out the Take a Kid Fishing tourney out of Kimberling on the 10th was cancelled. Hated to hear it but I can understand.
  15. The wife and I went to Lake Springfield for a couple hours today. Caught 4 bass ( 2 under the slot and 2 in the slot) all on crappie jigs. Lots of people were out there today. i didn't see any other fish caught. water temp was around 58 if my graph was correct.
  16. Dutch, That was the same daughter. She has become quite the fishing person.
  17. My 12yr old daughter and I caught 14 white bass between 12-14inches up the big Sac arm this afternoon. Most were real shallow in about 3 ft of water. Caught them on swimming minnows. Water temp got up to 48.5 where we were. Saw a few other boats catching some fish also.
  18. We and some friends were catching some nice crappie out of Long Creek a few years ago. My son was getting "bored" with just catching 11-13 inch crappie. So he starts throwing a wiggle wart at noon and about his third cast to the bank he hangs a 6.9lb bass. Really put it on us old folks that day. After pics, measuring and weighing, he did not bat an eye as he released her. He has a replica on the wall now of her.
  19. I used to fish that lake a lot in the late winter and early spring. Caught some great crappie there, some decent bass and some walleye to about 5lbs just here and there though on the walleye. Also caught two channel cats that pushed nearly 10lbs while crappie fishing. I believe it is pretty deep in some spots. Still fish it occasionally when conditions are right but have migrated to other lakes in the spring. To many lakes close and not enough time
  20. Who won and with how much weight?
  21. Growing up, I use to fish Toledo Bend on the LA/TX border a lot. One of the best springtime bassin spots was called the gar hole. And Man, there were some gar in there that made you think a 14 ft boat was way to small for that area
  22. I would second what lakebumb said. I have a Eagle 480 that I have had for a while and can dropshot well with it. I also just got the new Lowrance 520c and am trying to figure all its benefits out but I can tell you it is great so far.
  23. small cranks in shallow water has been working on the walleyes for me lately. Went yesterday evening and caught 10, only one keeper though. Lots of fun.
