  1. Anyone know how much rain we received 4/13 thru today in the Shell Knob/Viola area? I'm about 50 miles North in Monett and I had 2-1/2" of precip. We have had it all in the last 24 hrs. Rain, Ice, Hail, wind, thunder, lightning and snow this morning. Just wondering how much more the lake is going to rise. It is getting hard to find the standing timber especially compared to last year at this time when the pool was at 903.
  2. Yes mostly largemouth Bucks, the two big ones were Sows. When we first started fishing for Crappie we were catching a lot of Kentucky's. We were reading an average of 55 degree water. All the males came out of the coves. We fished most every cove and cut from Jackie's to Sweetwater and the 2 large ones did come from the other side of Viola. We seen several beds with large fish on them but could not get any action from them.
  3. Went up in Kings River on Thursday looking for Crappie. After 3 hours of trying to catch crappie the only thing caught was Bass. I was throwing a chartreuse swimming minnow and my partner was throwing white. we probably caught 20 bass in the 14" to 14-3/4 range. We decided to quit crappie fishing and go all bass. I went to a 4" smoke grub and my partner went to a 4" white grub and we finished the day with 10 keepers. 8 of them were all good keepers, 1 weighed 5lbs and 1 a little over 6lbs Most of these fish were right on the bank and several came out of the trees in 25' of water about 6-8' down. We did catch 2 keeper crappie, I think the crappie are there but below the bass and you could not get to the crappie before the bass took action. I seen several guys burning the banks with spinnerbaits but did not see much caught. Anyone going Sunday? I most likely will try it again then. Good Luck and Good Day.................
  4. Last day we went was the Monday April 2 that eceryone was talking about. We fished in the Kings river and at one time we counted 24 boats in Jackie's and we got blowed away from someone who came in Jackie's all way to the back on plane and made a few casts and came all the way out full plane, how he did not hit a tree I will never know. We had 14 keeper crappie smallest 11" and the largest 15-1/4". Sunday April 1st we limited out on crappie. Most of the fish were caught on a red/white tube jig tipped with a small minnow. Mostly in the brush or flipping in docks. Most fish seemed to be 6'-12' We have not been since the cold snap. Has anyone been up in the Kings since the cold snap? Thanks and good fishing. Remember to take a kid as often as you can. Wednesday March 28 I took my two sons and we brought home 45 keeper crappie.
