Predictable thread with the equally-predictable cast of characters. I would imagine a short questionnaire of unrelated topics (global warming, health care, gun control) would reveal monolithic beliefs on both sides of this debate. I don't know what that says, I just find it interesting. Of all the posts, this caught my eye: Wow. Were you referring to gigging or meth?

I fished the Diamond City area pretty hard last Saturday. The only thing I can report is that it was a nice day weather-wise.

Does Tucker have their gas pumps working?

Thanks Mike... my son and I had some pretty "okay" action last weekend bottom bouncing crawler rigs around DC. No keeper walleye, but some shorts and otherwise a variety of fish were caught. Kept mostly between 25 and 35 fow. My graph seemed to show the thermocline setting up about 20'. Seems kind of shallow, what is your understanding of the current thermocline? Thanks, Ken

It was always my understanding that the new "normal" was going to be 654 ft + 5 ft = 659 ft to achieve the minimum flow. K dock access, along with Slough Hollow Road and several other areas were improved with 659 ft in mind. What a cluster.

I didn't want to give it away. It looks like the one near the bowling alley. Hole #2 is a short par 3 over water. Hole #6 is a longer par 3 over water. Hole #8 is the only par 5 on the course. I used to play it all the time when I worked local. You could play for $25 after 3pm. One of the guys i played with snuck a pocket fisherman in his bag, rigged with a plastic worm. A nice bass broke him off on the first cast on the pond alongside #5, otherwise it would have been quite a spectacle on a crowded course.

I caught some smallmouth in the Elbow arm last weekend while crappie fishing. They were on steep sloping banks around points in about 15 fow. Unless they've moved with the lake they're probably even deeper now. Largemouth were more shallow, but still near deep water. Couldn't buy a crappie. I'm itching to camp at Buck Creek and fish the Music Creeks, but I don't have a weekend open until mid June. How's the ramps and the campground looking?

Thanks guys, I may have overstated how bad it scrubs. If I rotate, they last 4 or 5 years (about 2 thousand miles per year I'd guess). It's been that way since I've owned the boat 10+ years. I think Wayne might be right that the alignment issue is close to the wheel mount. A year or two ago I placed a 2x4 flush against the outside of both tires and measured between them, and the front edges seemed significantly closer than the rear edges of the tires. Wasn't too sure how accurate it was.

Hey Justin, I've actually never fished out of a drift boat before... I've always wanted to pitch streamers out of one of those things. If there's an open slot on either day I'd be happy to earn my keep in beer, vittles, gas $, etc. Plus I'm better behaved than Gavin and Coldwaterfshr. Smell better too. Lemme know, thanks! Ken

I just missed you that weekend Ness... I rolled into camp an hour or two after you left as I recall... did you wind up selling that boat?

Thanks for the link stlskyline, it looks like folks are pretty happy with Allen's customer service. It also seems like the Allen is bit more sturdy (?) I don't guess either reel would withstand the underwater Ness treatment ;-)

Hey Folks, I'm in the market for a new reel, and I can't imagine a better collection of fly fishing geeks to draw advice from. This'll go on a 8 1/2 foot 5wt Winston WT rod, and I have no more than $150 allowance for the reel... Unless something really blows me away... I'm trying to be earnest here, so please don't tempt me. I've kind of narrowed it down to a Lamson Konic, or an Allen Trout II, but there might be others worth looking at. I haven't seen any reviews on the Allen, but I think that burnt orange would look awful good attached to Winston green. Not sure if Mrs. Forsythian would agree, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. After that, I'll be shopping for some line worthy of this rig. After that, a decent couch to sleep on Thanky

Very nice Justin! Whereabouts is that cabin? -
And the pattern continues! What the heck, I'd like to go for a couple of hours.

Secured a hall pass from Mrs. Forsythian, and made my way over to the 11 point for some solitude and fishin'. Put in at Greer on Saturday noon, and took out at Turner on Sunday noon. Fishing was excellent on Saturday (by my standards), with 6 fish to hand. Brought another 2 to hand on Sunday. Best pattern was a small black stone, I'd say a 12 or 14, fished under an indicator in relatively skinny water. Most fish were in the 15" range, and strong as can be. Saw deer, turkey, bald eagles, and only 2 other floating groups. Big moon overnight, with owls, coyotes, and the requisite sasquatch throwing rocks into the river near camp. Thanks as always to Brian's shop for their trustworthy shuttle service. A couple of pics are attached, can't wait to go again!

waa! waa! Weather permitting I'll be down the 27th. Wish I could go this weekend, hope the leaves hang on just a little longer!

I stopped by the new canoe/ kayak shop on 65 near the Highlandville exit today, and I was taken by the Native "Ultimates" with the tunnel hull. Kind of a kayak/ canoe hybrid. Anybody paddle one of these things?

Welcome to the forum DBAG, most folks here are friendly. There are a few cyber-toughs here, but you get that everywhere you go on the net these days... it's the new road rage I guess.

Bass are easy to identify when gigging. Trout are difficult to differentiate from suckers, which is why gigging is banned on many trout sections. If somebody gigs a bass, they are poaching plain and simple. Same poaching as bait fishing in an artificial-only area, keeping bass before Memorial weekend, etc. If you decrease the lumens, you increase the chance for ethical giggers to make ID mistakes. Word of mouth is very powerful down here in your playground. It would not take a great deal of effort for the local MDC agents to simply become more visible, and co-op with the sheriff and other local leaders to clean up the behavior. A little enforcement would go a long way. As it is, there is zero enforcement. I gigged a dozen or more nights this season, and never saw one agent.

Got some Albright boots coming in the mail, should be here any day now.
