Anybody going yet? I drove to Twin last weekend to check it out and discovered the boat dock has been washed away. I spoke to a friend of mine who contacted GRDA and they have no plans on replacing it. Good luck to everyone in the 'boat ramp traffic jam', which will be made even worse this year while guys are trying to get on and off the boat. Also, I feel sorry for the fisherman by themselves...you're gonna have to beach your boat on the bank in order to get on and off to move the truck/trailer. Any reports out there yet? I should be able to post something next week on the whites. Go Cats

What sizes do you recommend? Only saw one mention of 14,16,18 on the links..is that a good recommendation? Go cats

My results from fishing Beaver several weeks ago... I decided, since I had never seen the lake before, to go ahead and get a guide for a half day. I took my time and found a website and called. My choice in guides was poor and I ended up with a bad experience. I will say no names here, but safe to say the effort was poor, conservation was a priority, and I thought I would have to fight the guy to keep the small fish we caught. We fished up by the dam, which I thought was a below average guess at the time. We only fished there because it happened to be close to where I was camped, even though I told the guy I would meet him anytime, anywhere the fish were biting. I also found out that the guide is only a part-time fella, with a full time job as his regular employment. Nevertheless, this was my first effort at fishing with a guide and I guessed wrong. Next time, and there will be a next time very soon (I have to get this bad experience out of my system), I will ask more questions and be much more choosey in my search. Go Cats

Fished Saturday and yesterday. Lots of stockers and one 15 incher. Only fished a couple of hours each day. Caddis and cracklebacks... Go Cats

What size spinners/nymphs/emergers do you recommend when fishing the hatch? Are those 22's? Or does the time of year dictate what size to throw? Go cats

I should be down to RR on Monday, 10/8, if not before. Go cats

I have not been to RR for years but have geared up for some fly fishing for this Saturday. I have fished Montauk and Bennett this summer already with much success. I have looked over the regs, but my memory is that you cannot wade RR. Am I remembering right? It's not ALL bank fishing is it? I remember fishing zone 2 (by the "pasture/camground") years ago, but I don't remember wading. Any suggestions on where to wade and throw a crackleback for a few hours? Maybe I should quit trying to remember, and just fish... Go Cats

Heading to Beaver in mid/late October and never fished it before. In fact, I have never laid eyes on the lake before. I would like to try and catch a striper, which I have done before at Texhoma. Any suggestions on where to fish the lake in October? I have searched through the posts from last year and no real help there. (I am guessing live bait drifted somewhere around the dam area, and maybe top water.) Go Cats

Well, thanks to everyone's input, I think I have come up with a solution... Trying to seriously fish LOTO on Labor Day weekend is a foolish idea. I have never been there but I am anticipating contant waves and other surface disturbances all weekend. So what I think I will do is fish as early in the morning as possible, hoping the hangovers are still in place and boat traffic is at a minimum. I'll troll deep diving cranks and other baits off of points, humps, channels, etc. If the bluff or peirs are secluded enough and quiet enough, I'll hit those for sure. Maybe I can pick up a few with this strategy, familiarize myself a little with LOTO and return in the fall. I'll post results when I return in early September, and if I don't catch anything, maybe I'll post a few pictures. Go cats

Should I head farther upstream from the spillway next time? Is there swifter water farther up? How far? How do you get there? Why is the sky blue? Those questions should keep you busy for a few...Thanks for the help. Not sure when I'll get back, but the wife and I loved the park. (That is, up until new neighbors moved in to the site next to us on Monday morning and started smoking THC out in plain sight. Had to call the cops on that one...I HATE jackasses) Go Cats

Making my first trip to LOTO on Labor Day. Have the boat, and will be staying in the State Park. I haven't the slightest idea where to fish. I don't care what species I go for, whether is be for cats, crappie, whites/wipers, walleye, etc. I fish for meat, so I will not be interested in largemouth, as I don't keep them. Anybody out there have any tips on location? Thanks, Go Cats

Just floated from Cedar to Pulltite on Sunday 7/29. We last floated a Missouri river late June on a Saturday. Never again. Floated the Niangua outside of Bennett. Forget about fishing, we could barely maneuver around all the canoes and swimmers. It was a disgrace. Thus, we decided never again float on a Saturday. (And by the way, I am not a prude, I enjoy bourbon as much (or more) than the next guy). The float on the Current we took was long, but words cannot express the change in scenery. No booze, no yelling. Some cliff jumping, but those that chose to break that particular rule actually did so in well organized fashion, letting the few canoes on the river get well clear prior to the next jump. Visited Welch Spring and Hospital. Yes the cave and TB area have bars to eliminate access. Attempted some fishing, and only caught one goggle-eye. but on float that long, you can either paddle or fish, not both. Go Cats

Started late Friday afternoon, once I got to the park, at the head of the spring. Caught one on crackleback, dry float. Saturday found me exploring new territory, fishing upstream from the spillway/dam. Caught one on crackleback in the morning, and threw everything in the box the rest of the morning. Struggled. I saw a guy, fishing I think with a Montauk Special, on his flyfod. It was white with a spinner on it, but I don't think it was a roostertail or anything similar. Anyway, I saw this guy catch at least 20 in a hour. He tore em up. (I caught two more in the afternoon (4pm) on cracklebacks, same area.) Canoed the Current on Sunday, so no park fishing. Monday, caught 2 in the morning during the hatch on trico's. Had a lot of strikes on mike mohair, but the fish were just smacking the fly. Spoke with a bunch of people who had the same problem. It was great fishing on monday above the spillway...saw four people there the whole morning. Special thanks to the guy from Hannibal who shared his version on a crackleback on Saturday afternoon. A refreshing pleasure to meet nice folks on the river. Go Cats

Thanks for the post, Hoosier. Heading out Friday... Go cats

Great story mcp. A nice read. Now, IMO, I think the original poster is a kid. And, as he was putting his fourth fish on the stringer, he lost it, so he caught another one. I don't think there is a need to 'defend yourself'. Unless you are challenging the kid to a duel...(SLINGSHOTS AT 20 FEET, YOU POACHER!!) Yes, I know most readers of this thread have already put this together, but I hate for the kid (I think) be put off from future posting because his writing was misinterpreted. Keep the info coming jhawk...I am heading to Montauk for the first time in two weeks, so I need all the info I can get. Go Cats

OK. Great news! Sounds like I don't need too many new purchases. Have the 4wt, and the leader, tippet, and SJ worms are already in the vest. Got the 14 and 16 hooks, and think I will tie a few of these to try out for the heck of it...http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/fotw2/011705fotw.html Have noticed the mohair and trico comments in previous fishing reports, so I will need to tie some of those (or buy 'em if the grass doesn't stop growing). Also, have already got the camping spot reserved (found out the hard way at Bennett, if you don't plan about 2 months in advance, the SP will be full) and we will be there through Monday (for some quietier fishing the last day). So, it seems if I don't catch fish, I'M THE PROBLEM! Go Cats

What is the preferred line and leader and tippet combination? I will be taking my "maiden voyage" to Montauk at the end of this month, and would like to be prepared to catch a few fish. Also, I'm thinking about tying up some cased caddis' for this trip. What is the size of the caddis flies at Montauk? Thanks for the info... Go Cats

Heading down Friday / Anyone interested?
msubobcats replied to DeepDiver75's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
Leaving tomorrow noonish for the 3 hour drive to BSSP. The weather looks a bit frightful, and the water level is sure to rise and cloud up. Might make for some tough fishing. We'll see. Go Cats -
O.K...I'll bite (just like the brown). Leech? Pic? Tying instructions? Go Cats

Thanks for the link and pic. I think I'll tie some of both, and also experiment with tying a "Hatchery Pellet" just for kicks. And sorry for the posting...probably should have been in the fly tying section, which I have just discovered. Go Cats
