Good old "Mother Nature" is slipping at an alarming rate. Big money tends to be winning the battle...greed, power, whatever. We were blessed with a thought process above most other life that inhabits this planet. All I do is sit and watch where it is getting us...to me it's fairly obvious. Mankind has become it's own worst enemy...jmo, but it's a grim picture man is painting for himself. We above all other creatures have the thought and knowledge to stop the direction we are headed. Some tend to throw the very planet that supports our existence by the wayside for various reasons...all I do is sit, help where I can not having wealth or influence and watch us be the demise of the only planet that has the desired environment to support our species. I watch and wonder what it will take for us to realize the damage we are doing to ourselves by destroying what enables our very existence...it makes little sense to me ??? PHW, you ask for thoughts and or opinions...these are mine, I simply just watch, regret and wonder the direction we are headed. The ones who will suffer from actions taken today will be our children and grandchildren...my only hope is for the generations following us to still have a clean drink of water, an uncontaminated fish to eat or catch, to have a tree to sit under for shade...just to be able to exist in the world we are leaving for them. It is said there is strength in numbers...until a new level of awareness is achieved by enouph people that are willing to commit and unite for the salvation of the following generations I feel no change will take place...I don't know but can only hope this will happen for I see no other fix. PHW...you ask, this is JMHO. bm

Jim, jmo but water quality, clarity, temps, lighting conditions, diet, genetic backgrounds...imo many variables come into play concerning the coloration of most species...the mentioned are probably just a few. bm

Hey SK, sonds like they work ok...where did you order yours from? post back up come your next trip, be curious if they stay alive as well as advertised especially after having a hook in em...that should tell the tale. good luck and thanks bm

Nice surprise, huh JC...generally when that happens to me I am known as the "Drummiester"...least it was a game fish of sorts. Always an unexpected treat though, lol. bm

Same holds true on the Current. Browns are stocked down to cedar grove, bows to akers ferry but there are many nice bows and brownies caught all the way down to pulltight and round springs. The water is just much larger than the upper sections making it hard to wade fish...doesn't mean there not in there, just not quite as accessable. bm

You got that right John...some people will drive around for 15 minutes, exaust $4.00 worth of gas to avoid walking a little ways when they could have taken a spot, walked a little, bought what they came for and be gone. They could park a bit farther away, get a tad of exercise, avoid 'parking lot rage' and be gone. It's amazing to me the lengths some will go to in the pursuit of for lack of a better word 'lazyness', lol. bm

CB, There are many things, too numerous to mention, as far as outdoor opportunities the dept. has provided. My numbers days are long past, I desire the HUGE memories as far as fishing. Nothing takes all else away, including pain, as much as a BIG fish bending my rod...one of the few things that puts me 'in the moment' so to speak. They have been responsible for tons of good things over the years, I'll give credit for that but imo some things that go on now could be approached in a much more efficient manner. I expect no one to believe me because it's just talk to some which is cheap or looked at as another opinion of which we are each entitled...actions prove themselves. Things I have witnessed is all I can go by, I hold no faith in rumors and the only pictures of such are in my mind...I reckon this is the case with most, I would hope anyway. Due to medical problems I am having very much limits my 'fun time' at this point and I for one cannot take the heat nor do I like being crowded. I have to pick and choose wisely when and what I get to do plus I'm financially not in a good place at the moment, it costs to play...sucks but that is the way it is. When I do get to play a little I pay for it dearly...my physical activities are very limited but I refuse to lay down and let it beat me. Enjoy your time and kids...it's priceless. Someday your kids will be grown and I hope your health holds up better than mine has...it's not a very good place to be so take advantage or it for you may not have it one day which is something I would wish on no one. bm -
Just heard on the news they have given a permit for a new chicken farm near Roaring River, Eagle Rock the news said. If this is in that watershed this could possibly be bad news...would it be in the watershed?...I'm not familiar. bm

I agree CB...that would not be right by me either...believe me I give credit where deserving but I'll gig where needed also. We in Mo. are more fortunate than most, I realize this. Come fall we'll try to hook up...don't fish much anymore during the summer...I'd rather fish when the weather beats most back. bm -

Nothing personal towards you either CB so think what you must...we'll just have to differ on opinions here...maybe someday we'll discuss it over a fishing trip in the same hollar sometime. You have to watch what is said in public...some have learned the hard way, I for one choose not to, lol. bm -
Thats possibly just a couple of raceways depending on the size of the fish...does that estimate include the numbers lost from the stream?... just curious. bm

CB, I would be glad to discuss face to face the things I've seen, to me seeing is believing and I'm not saying we're ripped off just saying imo money could be much more wisely used. IMO one has to witness things to truely believe and often such things are well supressed, no company or business allows these things to go public unless exposed and their better be facts to back it up and that aint gonna happen on a public forum and you know why. Seeing is believing and I have seen...it's obvious you have not...understandable. bm -

Maybe your opinion would change a little, maybe not, but if you could see the things my eyes have seen which apparantly they haven't our opinions will just have to differ and thats ok...be pretty boring if we all agreed on everything, ya know. bm -

IMO one would have to know the relationship between the parks and the mdc and many other factors would probably figure in somehow. I could be mistaken, wouldn't be the first time nor the last, lol, but imo the dept. gets their fair share. I for one would be interested in the amount. I agree we have it better than most states...I don't care to try to explain because there are so many factors that it would take that few of us even realize to come to a figure. I know trout fishing is a multi million industry in the state and all get a piece of the pie...I will not be arguementive about it I for one am just curious. We all have opinions and I respect that...least we're still allowed that priveledge. bm -
Can anyone explain the reasoning behind not mentioning the fish kill...imo, whats up with that? bm
-
Something like 'visions of lollypops'. With Terry I bet it's 'visions of big browns'...at the hand of the almighty 'shroom', lol bm
-
You would think this would have made the news somewhere...seems to me it would have been covered by the media... Certain things just don't seem to get much attention. Just imagine several thousand trout piled up against screens in raceways, washed out on the banks, roads and anything else in the flood plane. Nothing throws off more odor than a dead fish on a hot day...it will be a big stinkin mess to say the least. Some pics of the damage would be interesting. Maybe someone got some pics and will post up with them. The scavengers will eat good for awhile I reckon. bm

CG, The MDC would have to answer that one for you and by reviewing their budgets and expenditures it's hard telling. From daily tags to trout food vending machines, things to numerous to mention imo it would knock your socks off at what it generates. I'd be interested to know the total monies generated from the trout parks and everything associated with trout fishing itself. Don't know how one would even totally figure it out from the outside. Would be an interesting figure though. bm -

True...trout and are not native but generate millions of dollars for the MDC...go figure, lol. Muskie are in a few select lakes and imo the number of muskies that become huge are numbered. I doubt little attention would be given unless some revenue or notariety could be achieved by producing them... A fish of this size could possibly do some real damage to about any existing fish population, native or not...but imo could be another good money pit for the MDC bioligists and fisheries section...my thinking is it would get a ton of resistance from every which direction. bm
