  1. Man you would think of all the brown trout this board and myself included have caught my question would be a gimme. Thanks for the picture of the mount but no help.Im sure a good taxidermist studio like Schwarz would have the colors down but just don't remember white rings around the red dots.Well I guess I could go fishing and check for myself Thanks again.
  2. Troutjig, yea I was talking about the White River up by the dam. It's about a mile long stretch of c&r it's good wading but get's hit hard.I hope you get some running water that stretch is really good.If you can rent the boat for a half day[ $55 last time I was there].Motor up to the cable leave your motor running and float down and repeat. They will have a drag chain attached to a rope make sure front passenger has a sharp knife right next to them at all times just in case chain gets hung up on fast rising water.Im not trying to scare you but it can get dangerous. It looks like there only running a couple generators for a short time so you should be cool.I dont turn my motor off when there gen water on the White or North Fork. The dock guy at the state park will have a pretty good idea of generation[he will be guessing but a good guess]Also bring a cell phone with the corps generation number[i think it's somewhere on this site]If your phone will work down there mine won't.Good luck.
  3. Troutjig,Genes and Norfork Dock are both good on Northfork. You can easily fish most of the accesses in a day[rivers 3 or 4 miles long]Wade the first day hitting the dam,McCellans[a private access 3 bucks ,a must!],and where the Northfork empties into the White.Boats are fat$$$$$ $50 to $70 so wait to see if there running water first. If they are try to find out how long they have been running lately[good luck It will be a guess]and rent a boat from Norfork or Roses go upstream as far as you can and float down.If you can make it to the dam you can float with no generation with little or no dragging.I suggest one of your gold or silver tinsel jigs they seem to like flash there.Try to hit The White at Bull Shoals nice spookey fish in the catch and release and they stock the river just below very often.Good luck those rivers can be a little dangerous compared to the Meremac.
  4. I just got my brown back from the taxidermist and it has white rings around the red dots.I have caught browns with lots of red and no red all black dots.I just dont remember the white rings. Is this common or is this a way of highlighting the red?I searched the web for closeups of browns and can only see faint white rings on some of them.My taxidermist is one of the best in the area [schwarz Studio] but I just dont remember the white rings.Any help? Thanks
  5. Ahhh, thanks for the kind words. As I mentioned in a previous post I got my first couple rubber legs out of trout mouths that must have broke off.[maybe they should have read our post on drag setting with light line] One of the troutjig family that fishes down by the bridge turned me on to a grn tinsel a couple weeks ago Nice guy he was beating them up with it.I have'nt had as much luck with it as a rubber leg.I have to take back the statement you seldom feel the hit they were pulling the rod out of my hand Sun.I also got another trick. When trout are staging close to the surface put on a SMALL cork about 3" to 6" but don't watch for your cork to sink watch your jig.The cork keeps it from sinking below trout to quick.I was wondering how they classify rubber legs at the other parks.I would assume being rubber you would have to fish it in the bait zone.
  6. A friend and I floated Pacific Palisades to Allenton last Sun.Caught a few pumpkenseeds, two bass and big drum.We were using blk/wht rapala floaters and plastic craws.Caught only one small walleye out of the lower 'mac'in March on a crawler.I heard a few get caught along bluffs below hwy W bridge [deep hole all the way to Big River]Also heard a few get caught below Rockford beach dam on the Big.
  7. Sight fishing them seems to work for me.I like to stand down river of the hole.Cast upriver short cast about five feet upriver of trout.Let the jig sink about a foot are two and reel just fast enough to let your jig drift thru the fish reel up and repeat. The keys are light line{jig drifts better]drag set just enough to hook fish without breaking on hook set, limber rod and most important polorized sunglasses.Watch your jig at all times keep your line semi tight and when your jig disappears or you see a flash of white close to your jig [when trout open there mouths you will see the white gums for lack of a better term]set the hook by lifting your rod and reeling at the same time.Switch jigs often and try to stay on the light side 1/16 ,1/32.Sometimes ripping the rod sideways right as the jig nears the end of the drift will trigger a strike.Rubber legs and tinsel jigs are ez to follow if you dont cast to far.Seldom will you feel the strike.Good luck.
  8. Heard one of those 10 LPS. got caught at the dump hole by an adult.Thought it was bull but if you heard that they released 3 maybe . I seen a map http;//justtrout.netfirms.com that has names for the holes at the springs. The lazy hole really is the lacy hole named for a poacher. Guess it don't matter what you call it.If I catch a 10LPS. I'll call it the lunker hole.
  9. Fished Meramec Fri. and Sun. decided to skip Sat. due the fact I've probably been the last 8 kids day I have two teen boys.Sun. was a little slower.Felt lazy and tired from all that hammerin Fri.Bait fished air injected worms[first time]seemed to work early for bigger fish.Switched to yellow, white, and red power eggs.Caught 15 stringer was smaller due to deep hooked fish.Fri was awesome.Started off with my ultralite with nylon thread killed em on everything 1/16 wht crappie jig, orange worms,wht.rooster.Caught 3 nice ones and grabbed my fly rod and headed for the red ribbon area.C& R a 5LPS. on a wht. weighted puff ball no indicator.Easier for me to play c&r if they have a chance in the river.C&R a 3LPS. later on a wht. rooster.Fri. rivaled any from past including many trips to all the trout parks, the White and Norfork.I have 8 NICE fillets to prove it!!!Soon to be gone after I finish this beer.
  10. The waters perfect and so was the fishing. It looks about a foot high with just enough color to hide your line. The fishing was as good as it gets!!!Probably caught 30 half of them two Lps or more.
  11. They were also cutting the weeds and moss from boat and shore. The water was running pretty good so maybe it will be clear for the weekend.
  12. Highway Cone.That cracks me up!!!Awesome goldie!!!
  13. I fish the lower Meremec between Catawissa and Eureka.Good success on bass and cat limited success on crappie.I have'nt had time lately due to scouting turkeys.I'll post next time I go if I do good.
  14. I have an older coleman 17' scanoe that was that was damaged last week.Picked up and wrapped around a tree by heavy winds. It has alumanuim stablizers and keelson that were bent. Can't find any info on older parts.Coleman has sold out to Pelican and design has changed.Any help finding the metal parts or how to bend the metal back would be a big help.Thanks.
  15. Yea, if they jump like on the news you may need a tennis racket instead of a net for protection !!!
  16. The last two reports [Weavers bait shop] said they stocked better fish this week 1 1/2-2lps.
  17. Nice color is a term my buddies and I refer to small fish. That was the story this A.M. just above the Whistle Bridge.I caught 12 from the buzzer till 9A.M. Olive green seemed to work best.Micros under a cork,John Deere's without a cork, and a small crankbait called a Tadpolly caught all 12 none over 13".I didn't move around much but I didn't see a 15"+ all A.M.Had three buddies with me two upstream between the bridge and the bluff hole one downstream in the baithole below the bridge. All said the same thing, "nice color".
  18. Looking to head up and try for crappie before turkey season.Flyingeagle read your post anything on Wappapello?Anyone got info thanks.
  19. Fished the bridge this A.M. Good to excellent is my report.Good size, lots of fish, and not to crowded.White is my color of choice.Waters up a little and running a tad murky. My buddy and I probably caught 20 with plenty of missed strikes and long arm releases . He was useing white power bait and white dough bait.I was useing white power eggs ,white 1/16 jigs, and orange and white worms. If you can stand the cold and rain this week go for it. The streams stacked and I had to pull myself away. The wading is a little tough, you can't see the bottom well to put your foot down in a safe flat spot.Seen a couple of mishaps today. Been there, done that ,don't like it!!!If it rains the next couple of days probaly should fish upriver out of the rapids where it's safer[and drier].Lots of fish up in the step hole where I finished the A.M. Fly rodders had plenty of room the past few Sundays. We left with a couple of stringers of 2 pound average.
  20. Ahhh...kids day. They usually close the upper half [down to the bathroom hole]to adults, kids only. The lower half can be fished by all.Dough bait, white or rainbow power bait fished with a small treble hook #12.Dough bait with a small slotted bobber no weight.Power bait,no bobber but put a small split shot about 12 to 18 inches above hook[lots of moss the power bait floats].Try this, brown and serve rolls tear them into small pieces.Philadelphia cream cheese mix together.LOTS of garlic powder!!!Remember to make them wash their hands before getting in your truck.SHUWEEE!!!Good luck and don't forget your forceps.
  21. He tried said their SPOOKY!!!I'll tell him to try some of that salad.Thanks.
  22. Just talked to a friend.FLOODED!!!
  23. Brian Nice site your up on it!!!Hopefully I'll be able to snag some. Those are my go to lures for sure.I'll just have to use my bass color till then.Good but not as good.Thanks. Cat
  24. Is there any left?I like to have some Thunderstick crankbaits from Storm in walleye color. There not in the catalog anymore.I can't think of why they would mess with a such a good thing. There dynamite on trout and smallies! They seem to cast a little better then other minnow lures.Any size will do.The color what I'm looking for.
