  1. I don't have cable or dish, so I've never heard of these guys. However, I have read enough of Leonard's posts, so he got my vote. Don
  2. I fished Taney on the 15th as well. It was a tough day. It was also surprisingly crowded. It was sunny, warm, and calm. I netted about 10 fish between 12:30 and 5:00. Nothing of size, all stockers. Caught fish on tan scuds, pheasant tail nymph, egg pattern, and copper zebra midge. I'd usually catch one as soon as I tied on a fly then they would wise up and nothing. I caught most fish stripping wooly buggers. Caught fish on olive, white, and ginger colored buggers; drifting, swinging, and stripping. I missed and lost alot of fish on buggers as well. I couldn't have asked for a nicer day in December to be out on the lake. Don
  3. Jeremy, That's hilarious. I've caught sculpins off other flies at RR but never on an egg. Too bad they don't grow like trout = great sportfishing. Don
  4. Phil, It's good to hear that consideration is there for the children and the handicapped. LMW, Wait until you start fighting trout after the lake turns and the DO rises. They will have alot of more fight in them and you will hear your reel scream a little longer than usual. Can't wait.....Don
  5. I'll be there the 15th from about noon until dark. I'll look just like I do in the avatar (I hope). Don

    report

McClellan's selling is one thing but 16 lots is another. I wish it was not to a developer. Don
  7. What in the world are lighted ice cubes?
  8. Tim's eggs are great, He has always been helpful about what's working at RR and taney every time I've been to his shop; and what a selection he has to offer in flies and materials. I got an 8+ pounder to the net last week on one of his roe colored small eggs. I tried some at Taney today, but no takers. Probably lack of presentation skills. I did well on my own pattern, approx 15 on my egg cluster in a yellow green color. Majority of takers were when it had settled still on the bottom. Most were caught below the narrows below rebar as it opened up to the big hole. I'll have to show you guys how I tie it when I get down New Year's day. Caught several more on a variety of scuds. Had a good one about 4:30. Was a good fight and I netted a 20-22 in. bow. Took it near the bank to take a pic while I was so excited. While unhooking, I found out it was fouled under the belly. I wish I realized earlier, I would have broke it off. Biggest of the day was 16 in bow. No browns. Not that crowded down there as well. Good afternoon to fish. Don
  9. SM, You Dog, Come on man, cough it up! Don
  10. Ron, Thanks for the pointer about yellow lenses. I never thought of the advantages. I'll have to bring my shooter's glasses next week at Taney. Thanks.....Don
  11. Who knows? Weather permitting, I might just bring a grill and blast some pork chops. We'll see. Why did Beeson bring up the subject of mouth to mouth? We shouldn't ruin our appetites. Don
  12. Best Wishes. I hope all goes well and you're back on the river in no time. Don
  13. I'll try to send you the link by Jeremy Hunt located in the fly recipes thread in this forum. I use gray ostrich with red thread. Good luck.....Don http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=549
  14. One small piece of advice, Don't use the indicator as a bobber as alot of people do. Some people wait for it to go under. If your choice of indicator either stops, jerks abruptly to the side, or twitches abrupt of the normal drift it was taking, recast, instead of setting the hook. You have nothing to lose and your yield will increase impeccably. Good Luck.....Don Don
  15. Count me in guys, It will be a great opportunity to put faces to names and knock out some of those late spawning bows (weather cooperating). I'll be doing the food thing for y'all some way or another as well. Is this just a day thing or are some of you staying the night in the vicinity? I'm ready.....Don
  16. Inspiring post Dano. Enjoyed it....Don
  17. Welcome Mango, Good place to learn and share your knowledge. Had fun at RR last weekend. Now you can PM Stikrz and see if he'll fish Taney with you this weekend. I'm busy with the kids so I'll wait until Dec 15. Later......Don
  18. Thank you Tim, It was good to see you again. As soon as I learn to dispense that small amount of yarn to the hook, I'll try to tie up a few eggs. I left all but one in the trees at RR. I get too excited about catching fish that I forget to look behind me at times. The big fish really like them. It was good to see some flow to the river again. Don
  19. Steve, Was good to meet you. I sure appreciate the flies. I caught about 20 fish or so that afternoon. I had alot of success with a size 20 gray ostrich scud. The only mini egg that worked for me was light rue color? I hooked an 8-10 pounder sight fishing and fought her to the bank. I tried to net her with my little tiny girlie man net and I picked her up out of the water as she lay across the top of my net. When I almost had my hand on her, she slid off the net into the water. By then my friend arrived with his camera ready. The fish was still on my line and I lost her after about 5 more minutes of fighting. Within 10 minutes later, I drifted the same egg over a set of falls and hooked about a 20 incher that broke me off after about a 15 foot run. Another great day at RR with the snow on the ground. Don
  20. John, You should expect my stuff soon. I finally got it in the mail this morning. Don
  21. That Hurts, I have good memories of McClellans. I can't help but think that someone would eventually buy the place and build a world class trout resort instead of another residential development. I also believe that there will be some unfortunate individuals who will acess downstream from Handicap and find themselves in high water. I need to see what I can do to get one more trip there before the shutdown. Don
  22. I posted a report on Taneycomo. You've probably read it by now. I was hard headed and only caught fish on flies of my own patterns. I try to do so when at all possible. I have friends that will not use a fly at all if they did not tie it themselves. I'm not that hard headed. I can't wait to try the peppy and mink scuds as well as Leonard's sowbug. Don
  23. I sowed at Lilley's about 9:30-10:00 and Phil led me to all of my supplies. Good to meet you Phil. Fished 10:30 until the horn blew about 4:00. Fishing was tough at first. There were alot more people there than I thought there would be. Two parking spaces above chute 2 when I arrived. I tried a variety of scuds and midges for awhile abov chute 2, to no avail. I tied on a black disco wooly bugger with a rabbit tail and picked up 2 14" bows. Stripping did not work, a caught them both on the drift in fast water. I broke off a 20 plus brown on my egg pattern right at the bad knot I tied. I went back to a variety of scuds and stripped an olive abd gray sculpin but no takers. At 1:30 I went back to my egg pattern. I started picking up fish at the end of the pool before the rebar riffles. I caught several then moved down to the end of the gauntlet because rebar was crowded. I then picked up several more thare and picked up even more at the top side of the big hole. Went back in the shallows and picked up several more above the rebar riffles. The bows are starting to show their winter colors. The pattern I used was chesse colored egg fu yarn. Looks alot like light chartreuse color to me. Most takers struck after the fly settled on the botton for a few seconds. I used a no 6 lead shot about 18"" above the fly. Finished with 16 fish total. Several 14" were the biggest. Took three 10 inchers home to fry up. It took me 45 minutes to get from the dam to Silver Dollar City turnoff when I went home to Republic. I did not care at all because I was thankful that it was a beautiful day and I had the opportunity for a great day at Taney. Happy Thanksgiving..... Don
  24. Leonard, what songs were they playing? Trout didn't seem to care? Don
  25. Keep in mind, I used to watch boxing as a youngster for free. Later, when I was single, we batchelor roomates would order HBO for 25 bucks and guests would pay 2 dollars to watch the match. Since then, the money people have taken the sport of boxing away from the working man because of the cost. By the way, who is the world heavyweight champion? Anyhow, I read a magazine article years ago that stated sports viewing would eventually be catered to the haves instead of the have nots because the bottom line is their dollar. I live in the country and I'm not much of a TV watcher. Therefore, I have not bought a dish package. I wonder what it really takes for network TV to hold the rights to NFL, MLB, etc. I miss Monday night football but at least I get Sunday night football now. Don
